Oreos are the one thing I insist we keep in the house. I don't eat a lot of junk food, but Oreos...my mother came home from the grocery store without them, and I told her it was completely unacceptable and picked up two packs when I went to buy my avocados. My mom was a wonderful baker so we always had baked goods around the house. There weren't restrictions put on them but I don't remember overdoing it because there was always stuff. My dad has a sweet tooth so my mom did a lot of baking for his lunches.
Because she was a great baker I really can't stand pre-packed cookies. Hubs loves them, he would rather have homemade, but his mom didn't bake when he was a kid. So he grew up with chips ahoy and Oreos, two things I never buy because I can make better.
Homemade Oreos? Do tell!![]()
I'm jealous, but I'm also so excited for you! I hope you will end up loving it. For me, I just want to keep going back because there's SOOOO much to see and no amount of time seems to be long enough to see and do everything, so I just have to go back again. And by then, there's something new...or 10 new somethings....it's never ending. I hope you feel the pixie dust rather than just feeling overwhelmed!!The deals are rarely Earth shattering but we still save quite a bit of money.
30 days until my very first trip to Disney!!
So nice when it works out like that. I did one year where I ordered all my gifts on etsy shops from friends. Then it's unique and you help out a friend and you have something beautiful to give. The big gift my dh got me was from a family owned single store and it's in a brick building. They beat the best online price by almost 10%The boots I ordered are getting shipped to the store to be picked up.
See..I figured the time thing was a reference to her boys devouring it all before it was even on the table, eliminating the possibility of taking pictures. She has to cook it, but if she wants to actually EAT any of it, she has to act FAST!!It takes about a second to take a pic...you don't hafta' set up a tripod or anything. Most of the rest of us seem to be able to do it as you request...!![]()

The only thing I remember my mom having was this IV stand with a bag of Vodka and it said M*A*S*H on it. Mom was a big fan of the show. She wasn't a big drinker that I remember. I was always a rule follower and I disapproved of my mom offering us a taste of her wine cooler at dinner at this one restaurant. Now it seems silly to me, but at the time I just thought "BUT THAT'S ILLEGAL!!" and I refused to take even a sip.Sure hope they Pups continue to behave. Poor Kapono though, patience of a saint.
So what goes wrong with the gravy, taste, texture, thickness or.....???? I've mastered beef gravy. I've yet to find one that rivals as better. Coming closer with Chicken/Turkey.
We didn't go out to eat often either, it came with families younger than ours as the norm. Growing up there was always Pepsi and Mt Dew available, my Sis love'd her 'lapa dew' even as a preschooler though the volume was age appropriate. I always remember candy and cookies in the house but I believe because it wasn't a 'special' thing we never gave any of that any special consideration over any other type of food or drink. Growing up we were never a family that ate volumes even in growth years, neither were my kids.
My folks actually had a bar in the finished basement, a thing back then. My folks were not big drinkers, there was sooo much liquior behind that bar but we never touched it, guess our minds never went there. My clients through the years gave me many bottles and it too sat in the basement. As my son hit his high school years I had a reality check, I didn't know what was all down there. I'd never know if bottles disappeared. We were never going to drink all that stuff nor our guests. I kept a bottle each of the 'basics' and poured all the rest down the drain and half filled a recycling bin wondering what the garbage man was going to think of me.![]()
Dear god, there are days for everythingToday is Small Business Saturday. Nice shopping tradition if any of your local stores carry the items you need. There's a small, local shop I love, and it's 20% off all books today.

By raclette do you mean a fondue of sorts? We had fondue one Christmas. It was fun. A few years back I did a Tex Mex Christmas with a fajita bar. It was a lot of work, but the food was delicious and it was different. Last year we ordered in for the first time from Olive Garden. I just didn't feel like cooking for everyone. We always have Christmas at our house and the supermarket trip can be expensive. Olive Garden for all was just over $100. Enjoyed by all.![]()
Have lots of fun!Going to see Coco this morning for the 10am show. Looking forward to it. I will give my spoiler free review later.![]()
better chips ahoy?My mom was a wonderful baker so we always had baked goods around the house. There weren't restrictions put on them but I don't remember overdoing it because there was always stuff. My dad has a sweet tooth so my mom did a lot of baking for his lunches.

Kwanza is just us so a nice small meal, small for us on a holidayOur big present day is Christmas too and my ex-MIL sends my daughter a gift card for Kwanzaa.
We do more with Christmas here than most Dutch people because I'm American, and because we have way too many birthdays around Sinterklaas. We have traditionally done Gourmetten (is that what you are talking about with Raclette?) because it's just easier and everyone gets what they like, but my MIL doesn't like that it kind of makes the whole house smell, so last year she did pork tenderloin. Not my favorite, but everyone else loves it and it's more about being together.I was out voted on the turkey this year, there will be 12 of us for Christmas dinner and we are out most day so we will do raclette in the evening. It is easy and we can have lots of different food to suit everyone's tastes. Still going to miss my turkey thou...
Yes, traditionally the Dutch don't do presents at Christmas. Our present day is 5 December, the birthday of Sinterklaas. However since none of the adults ever need more stuff we usually just agree to do something nice together, like dinner in a fancy restaurant or a day out instead of wasting money on presents no one wants. It also cuts down on the stress of thinking of something to buy![]()
Thank yo, I know I will I've been putting off getting one since before our trips. I know where it's hidden, I will be good and not take it for a test run.I'm jealous, but I'm also so excited for you! It's our day to remember all the mom and pop stores and to try and shop there instead of the big box ones.Dear god, there are days for everything![]()
Oreos I'll get the mint ones, or I use them to make crust for cheesecake, but chips ahoy I can't stand...chocolate chip cookies should be soft and chewy, not crunchy. My mom was a wonderful baker so we always had baked goods around the house. There weren't restrictions put on them but I don't remember overdoing it because there was always stuff. My dad has a sweet tooth so my mom did a lot of baking for his lunches.
