I just put it in a packet of foil in the oven. Still just okay though. My sister is a weirdo - she doesn't put any in the bird.

I was talking to a co-worker and I told her I was looking forward to the in-the bird stuffing and she was jealous. They go to dinner at her sister-in-law's house and the sil doesn't put the stuffing in the bird because she is afraid of it not getting done. I told her that I'm willing to take my chances. There is only one Thanksgiving we got sick from the stuffing and that was the year when my mom got a new oven and it wasn't calibrated correctly the bird looked done but really wasn't up to temp, and mom didn't use a thermometer. We figured out it was the stuffing because only my dad didn't get sick. He doesn't like stuffing and hadn't eaten any and he was the only one that didn't get sick. So one time in many years, yep I'll gamble.

Same for us!!! My grandmother used to make pork stuffing in the bird, and one year, she put it in the turkey too hot and we all got sick (something about the bacteria from the hot pork and raw turkey, whatever, whatever, lol). I've ALWAYS done in-the-bird and we've never had anyone get sick...I just let it cool a bit before stuffing the bird. (I totally cheat - I use stove-top, but add diced celery and onion to the water before it boils...once it's cooked in the bird, it tastes home-made!)

We sometimes have a turkey with cranberry port sauce for Christmas but not this year. :( I usually put fruit inside the turkey and cover the bird with bacon.:hungry:

I don't know about the fruit part, but the bacon part sounds delicious.

@ajrwdwgirl I love the picture of your dog with the Christmas decoration dog. So cute:inlove:

Thanks. She didn't like having to pose with it. It deviated from her routine, she wanted to go into the house at the end of our walk and I dragged her over to the decoration.

I do what my mom did and make the stuffing the night before and let it rest in the refrigerator. So in the morning when I stuff the turkey they are both the same temperature, maybe that helps I never thought about that before. Stuffing was always and is always homemade on holidays, we used Stove Top (which is good too) the rest of the year. I use my mom's recipe and it is so simple, dry bread cube (1 packet plain, 2 herbed), butter, onions, celery, salt, pepper, sage and chicken broth. So good. My husband's family always used Stove Top and once he had my mom's stuffing he said it was so much better. Now if I even joke about not making mom's stuffing for a turkey dinner he whines and complains. The rest of the year he is just fine with Stove Top or generic Stove Top.:)

Oh my, I forgot to ask oldest DD for the recipe for the country fried tofu and the scalloped potatoes...geez, what the heck good am I...

Anyway, thanks! :)
I've heard that before, and my pops pop did indeed have false teeth for as long as I can remember, and he had fun teasing us! He and my grandmother were a hoot, and I still miss them...and moms folks, too...they were awesome grandparents...those pics are treasures...!!!
Well, I figure that you will probably be seeing her in the next day or two anyway. You can ask her then. ;)

That would be the only way I could deal with the shopping crowds today--stay indoors!! (I despise crowds, period, and don't go to stores on Black Friday. For some people who are looking for something specific and are focused on particular items, there are some stores that will only offer the discount IN-STORE. So for those people who have to deal with that, I do feel bad for them.) As for your lovely island, I can't imagine crowds could ever be an "issue"! ;)
^^^This. I didn't even go to the grocery store. I did however do something I hardly ever do I bought a pair of boots online I tried on in a store couple of weeks ago and couldn't justify buying them at full price 60% off i couldn't justify not getting them:angelic:
