I think I'd have given her the rock. People are funny in what they keep.
Your story reminds me of a 'Luke' moment. He shows the order his Dad took when the diner was still a hardware store. The order was written on the wall. So Luke never painted over it.

I'm sure this is going to sound absolutely disgusting to most everyone else, but our dog used to love to press his nose up against the front window and watch the people going by. When he died there was a small patch of nose smudges on the glass. It's been almost three years and I still clean around them. We miss him so much; I still can't bring myself to erase them.

We were told by her brother after that spontaneous visit that she was a "ward of the state". We're unsure exactly what that means but I didn't get the impression she lived alone. I didn't even think to offer the rock to her though :(
Ward of the state means foster care. It means they have been removed from their home for some reason and placed with someone better suited to care for them. Sometimes because they have special needs, sometimes because the parents aren't fit. There was a family in my hometown that had several wards of the state...one because she was molested by her father, one because she got pregnant, and a few others I'm not sure why. The girl you spoke with might have had special needs that her parents couldn't handle.

That is kind of sweet about the painting. I'm surprised she didn't ask you for the rock to be moved to her house (if she had a place to put it). When my sister moved into her house many years ago, they had bought it from an elderly woman who was moved to assisted living, and one day the lady showed up in my sisters house. She was looking to make herself a coffee, she was confused and thought she still lived in the house. My sister called the lady's son and he can and got her. My dad and my brother-in-law changed the locks that night.

When we bought our house the first thing that happened was the deadbolts were changed on the house and garage. The Mom Dad and toddler went to Florida leaving behind 18 year old that was going to graduated high school in a few weeks and refused to move to Florida. He was a scary teen and I understand a PIA throughout school. No way were we going to believe he still didn't have a key.

I have to do a little last minute packing, but the major stuff is packed. I finished our fish extender gifts and door decorations for the cruise yesterday. I have to do a little light cleaning of the house today too, I hate coming home to a dirty house after vacation.

Tomorrow we are staying up in Minneapolis for the night, we are going when hubs gets done with work. I have to shop for another pair of shorts. As I was packing I noticed a hole had developed in my favorite shorts and in a spot that couldn't be fixed. We will by staying by the Mall of America so I shouldn't have much of a problem finding a pair.

I'm jealous!! This sounds like fun, and it's almost here! :)

Actually, it's not as odd as you might think. My friend's husband loved his dog and took him everywhere in the car. When the dog passed away, he refused to clean off the nose smudge from a side (passenger) window in the back seat area. That was the dog's staring window to the wonders of the world flying by, while the car was in motion.

Not bad, but that Avocado looks kinda green.
Was it hard to the touch?
by the way, you can wrap them in paper and leave it outside and it will be ready tomorrow (softer)

Thank you! Good tip!

If I want tomatoes from the store to ripen more and become a bit more flavorful I put them in a brown lunchbag with an apple for a day or two. Helps a lot. :hungry:

And now we have an episode of "SWG can cook, but don't tell her parents."

Here we are:
View attachment 210567
We have a salad with avocado, cheddar and monterey jack cheese, bacon bits, and a chipotle ranch dressing.
View attachment 210566
Then we have the main course. A bacon-wrapped filet mignon cooked to medium rare and a baked potato with cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
View attachment 210563
And wine and candlelight, because darn it, I want wine and candlelight.

Oh, and I've never cut open an avocado before, and this was the result after just watching a YouTube video...

Your secret is safe. Proud though, job well done. Love the Mickey wine glass and the Mickey candle holder.

Yikes! That's awful. :jawdrop:

Yes it was awful. He was in a 3 bedroom unit the first half and a 4 bedroom the second half, 2 CPs per room. They share one dresser and each have a drawer in a nightstand. 2 bathrooms for 6-8 people and a small kitchen, one sofa, one loveseat. If you want a TV ya gotta buy one or use someone else so if you multiple it out for an 8 person apartment x 26 weeks at $100 each, well yikes! They are grossing over $40,000 a year from these students per unit.

Wait. I thought you were joining them? Did I miss something (else? like I'm not missing enough already )
They're going to Disneyland and then Hawaii. I opted out because they were only going to Disneyland for five days, and I don't want to fly across the country for a short trip like that, and then they're going to Hawaii, and I think if I go back to Hawaii, I'd want to do it on my own, just because the type of trip I want to have is different than the type they want to have, and unlike in WDW or DL, it's hard to separate. We're going to WDW in August, and I'll go for most of that trip, though I'll have to do an airport run as well because they're going down before me. There's a monthly meeting at work that I have to go to on that Friday, so I'll have to leave after that.

Thanks, I'm glad that we made it home. We didn't get in until late yesterday. We had so much turbulance on the plane. It shook so much that the ceiling in front of us came mostly apart. It didn't fall, but was hanging by a thread. The people ahead of us was holding it up.

Oh my! Sympathy like.
Sorry so late. So glad y'all got home safe! :)

Years ago, my SisIL (DWifeys lil' sis) was a flight attendant for American Airlines.
One time she was working a night flight from the east coast to Los Angeles. They ran into severe turbulence over Colorado. They were either in the middle of a meal or drink service (too long ago...I don't remember :cyclops:), when all turbulence h**l broke loose. Stuff flying everywhere, ceiling panels coming down, people screaming and being injured, including her and most of the other flight attendants...pretty much no warning, from what I remember. They made an emergency landing in Vegas.
That was when she was flying domestic. She ended up flying international for American Airlines for many years after that.
