We still give out Easter baskets although they have gotten much smaller during the years. The candy tends to go to waste, since I only really have 1 that is a sugar fiend. The kids never eat the chocolate bunnies, although dh did buy them again for this year. Guess they are just iconic. The Cadbury mini eggs are always a hit(with me).Don't people give out Easter baskets anymore? When I was a kid, my mother always had baskets filled with Easter candy for us. We didn't get any additional gifts with the candy. (Your boys don't realize how lucky they are!)
Actually, looking back on it now, I didn't feel deprived at all--I just remember stuffing my face with chocolate rabbits and jelly beans, and feeling absolutely euphoric over the experience!
Ships. I ship mostly Chuck E Cheese x Mitzi Mozzarella, but I do write MickeyxMinnie occasionallyWait.. you write fanfic? of what ?
Sympathy like. Been there.Oh, and BTW...
Youngest DDs car problem turned out to be more than just a thermostat, to the tune of $1,100+. Thermostat is part of it, but, the main issue was apparently a water pump failure/leak. Also, some fan relay switches, and the coolant all has to be flushed because this new particular kind gels when it overheats. There were a coupla' other things, but, I don't remember much of the conversation after a certain point 'cause I started to go numb.
But, the fact that the engine overall wasn't damaged by the overheat was a bright point...!
As I've posted before, I have no reason not to trust these guys, as we've had vehicles in many times for what we thought might be serious issues, and they turned out to be minor.
But, over $3K in the past few months in car repairs is it bit of a 2x4 across the face...

Sympathy like. Your dad sounds like he was such an amazing, caring person. We need more like him in this world.Just popping in again. We had the funeral yesterday. It went well and it was really great to hear stories about my dad...the major thing was about my dad's gift giving. My dad wasn't really good at showing emotion, so his way of letting you know he cared about you was to give you something and sometimes he just decided you needed something and he was going to be the one to give it to you, whether it was kitchen knives or a lighted drawing board (for a 3 year old). One person didn't really even know who he was...she was at the feed store and he overheard her name or something...his neighbor's son had just gotten married and it was his wife and he decided she needed a pink....paddle rattle? That's what it sounded like she said, but I don't know what that is and I might not have heard right. But she was leaving and the sales clerk came running out after her and said she must be dad's friend, he had insisted she have this. She didn't even know him yet. And another said she had a skunk problem and her husband wanted her to shoot them, but she's small and the gun he had was too big...several years later, my dad shows up with a gun and ammunition for her to shoot the skunks. And there were SO many stories involving ice cream that we served ice cream after the funeral. We had asked people for stories for the guy doing his eulogy and so many involved ice cream that we decided we needed to send him off in style.
So... @figmentfan423 if you remember, I told you my dad had a thing about buying knives...and he had given me about 40 or so and I gave them to friends and family. I gave you the last ones I had that I wasn't using. I was so happy they went to a good home and weren't just sitting in a box somewhere. Well, my dad's friend found 3 boxes of knives in the house last week and my brother and his husband went out on Monday to clean some stuff out and this is what THEY found...so this is MINUS the 3 boxes his friend found, so this is about 2/3 of the knives found so far...perhaps you can understand why I wanted so badly to get rid of the ones I had and I wasn't worried about getting more if I needed them (everything NOT in the car is knives):

Ours are getting Disney "dollars" too. There's a reason they don't get candy, allergies. All my little guy can have is plain dark chocolate(dairy free). My dh is on a diet so none for him this year. They don't mind only getting only one chocolate bar each because they'd rather get movies and such, last year it was Disney dollars(yep I still call gift cards dollars) The best part it's easy on me when shopping.
Sympathy like. Well at least you may not need to shovel. Hope it will all disappear Sunday then so those pretty Spring flowers can show their faces. So tonight we're getting snow, predicting 3-5 inches and then 72* on Sunday.
YUP the bill for the rest of us to catch upI like to win! Do I get a prize?
Looks almost like my just updated forecast. 1-3 and then 70 Seeing I already prepped veggies for chili tonight I'm now going to throw in some ground groundhog and wash it down with a few dozen margaritas. I HATE SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So tonight we're getting snow, predicting 3-5 inches and then 72* on Sunday.
I'm stateside for at least another week, then I'm not sure. I have to wait for the official Death Certs before I can close out accounts and sell his cattle, etc. I might have to change my flight and stay a little longer, but at least he had already done his taxes for 2016 so I didn't have to mess with that. There are a lot of arrangements to make for his estate though, because he didn't OWN his land, he leased it. So the coal company wants to start mining on that land now and we have to get his trailer off there and his livestock. So there's enough to be getting on with. I'm sort of freaking out about it because my husband and kids are leaving today and my brother is only here until Saturday and then I'm on my own with no transportation. It's kind of overwhelming because I want to get it all done before I have no car and I'm trying to see if I can maybe get utilities changed over to my name so I have "proof of residency" and maybe I can get my drivers license back. My dad had several vehicles and I could possibly use one while I'm here if I had that. We'll see.Glad you had a chance to check in. Been thinking of ya. Big hugs. Are you state side for awhile or heading home?
I'm so sorry for everything you're going through. Good luck and I hope you can get your license straightened out. Be well my friend xoxoI'm stateside for at least another week, then I'm not sure. Yeah...and the crazy thing is, he never used any himself. He didn't cook. He had a pocket knife or 2 and a hunting knife he used, but that was it. And I suspect he forgot these knives were there. They were a favorite gift of his to give, so he'd buy several for certain people and forget to give them or misplace them and order more. Keep doing that for 20 years, and this is the result. We managed to pawn a bunch off to one of his neighbors...they took DS out to play with their lambs and to ride on the 4 wheeler, so we were out there already and just gave them a whole pile. But I think we're going to have to sell what we can't give away...there aren't enough people in my hometown to take all of them!thats insane! XD (the amount of knives )
I don't know....knives and towels. Those were his go-to gifts. I checked with the gal who owns the store where he bought the towels. He used to buy them and have her keep them there until he wanted to give them to someone, but we picked the last of them up last summer when we were here and he hadn't had anymore. I need to check with the kitchen store to make sure he didn't have any more knives THERE. But he just really liked to give gifts to people who meant a lot to him and he was not one to buy anything second best, and he liked practical gifts...things he thought people would use. Sorghum....the number of jars/bottles of sorghum....if he was invited to someone's house for dinner, he'd bring a jar of Sorghum and a carton of ice cream. The knives are just one of his obsessions, though the easiest to dispose of....who doesn't need a good kitchen knife? Sorghum is a bit harder to find volunteers to take.Again so sorry about your dad, it sounds like you gave him a nice tribute. Any particular reason he was so into knives?
