Hi! Glad you are on the mend! I have had that same stuff for the last 4 weeks too!! They asked me at urgent are if I had had asthma before. I hadn't so they diagnosed bronchitis. I was only on zpak for 5 days with cough meds and an inhaler. Do you have an inhaler? I have had to use mine several times at night. Hate that thing but lets me breathe. But, tomorrow I am going to see a dtr about my high blood pressure so I am going to mention more antibiotics for my bronchitis. Unfortunately, this past weekend mine turned into either an upper respiratory infection or just a plain old cold. I am really hating this winter! How about you?:(
Congrats on your new job!! That is awesome!! Hope everything works out for you!:)
I have inhalers, a nebulizer, the works. I usually don't bother with the inhaler; just go straight to the neb. Since I'm on oral steroids, I haven't had to use the nebulizer as muchI do have asthma, but I also have bronchitis. My allergist said that sometimes bronchitis can be missed in asthma patients. Although I had the same thing back in the fall, and the doctor in the practice who I saw that time caught it. I can't take z-packs anymore. I was on them a good bit as a kid because I had so many sinus infections that they don't work for me now.

I can't hate this winter too much. Last week it was in the 70s. Today it's in the sixties. Seventies again tomorrow. Wintry mix Friday, but back in the 60s next week. Last winter we had a blizzard (which I missed; I was in WDW), so this isn't too bad. Plus, I was in South Carolina, then SoCal, then WDW in December-January, so I missed most of the bad weather.

The inhaler has helped when I close up and can't breathe. I get panicky. I just want all this congestion to go. And the coughing seems never to go away.
Yeah our weather here in NC hasn't been all bad. We hit 75 over the weekend. I think we needed more cold so people stayed in with their illnesses instead of spreading to others. Our flu cases have shot up in the last two weeks. Pretty weather gets them out whether they are sick or not unfortunately.

You're so right sick people should stay home. After shopping a few weeks ago I was in a panic because the cashier I had was quite sick. Luckily I had a combination of good fortune and hand sanitizer but ............. I'm sure others were not so lucky. My dh is lucky he gets paid sick leave and where he works the rule is keep your germs at home and do not share:joyfull:

There was already chips and salsa down there along with above mentioned water, flashlights, battery operated radio and extra batteries, not to mention a tv, dvd player and a stack of movies and power back up for those.

I'll bet this is kinda' what your basement pantry looks like...! :D ;)

So an update since I don't think I've been on for two weeks now...

Combination of factors, with being busy and being sick. Let's start off with the being sick part so we get the bad stuff out of the way.

I've had a cough since basically getting back from WDW. I went to someone in my primary care doctor's office twice, and they told me it was just asthma. I wasn't buying that it wasn't asthma, so I made the drive and went to my allergist office, and it turns out, I've been walking around with bronchitis for the past four weeks, which certainly explains the cough, fatigue, and sleeping 10-12 hours a day more than, "Oh, it's just your asthma." So now I'm on a 17 day antibiotic course (yes, 17 days, you read that right) and oral steroids. Fun. (Not)

The job that I was initially offered ended up not working out. There were concerns from them (namely, my age and lack of experience) and from me (they only have one small Maryland office that only opened five years ago; concerned about the job security). So I've been job hunting, while also walking around sick.

Last week, I got a random message from a recruiter on LinkedIn. He had found my profile and wanted to talk about a position that he was looking to place. I gave him my number so that we could talk about it. It turned out his agency was looking to place someone at a large corporation that is headquartered in this area, only about 15 minutes from where I live. This is how the timetable went: Monday I got the message through LinkedIn, Tuesday I spoke with the recruiter over the phone, Wednesday I was in their office for an interview, Thursday I went for the interview with the client, Friday they called me and said they wanted me in for a second interview on Monday, which was yesterday. Yesterday I went in for the second interview. I got the official offer this morning which I have tentatively accepted, and I start next week assuming there are no bumps in the road in between now and then. Shouldn't be; it's basically a background check that's left and some paperwork, which the agency is mostly handling for me. This position will be great, though. It's basically an entry-level position with them looking to groom you into a manager. I met the person who used to hold the position; she isn't that much older than me and was promoted to a managerial position. Lots of advancement opportunity, The company has also been around for a long time, so the job security is good, and a family friend has worked for them for 20+ years and attested to them being a good company. Oh, and they're moving the building I'll be in, so it will be more like a 10 minute drive before long. My commute to my old job was about an hour, so this is great, especially since no expressways are involved.

Speaking of agencies, working with one has been so great. They met with me and went over the entire interview with me before I went in, reformatted my resume, told me what to emphasize based on what the company was looking for, how many other candidates were interviewing, etc. They even walked me into the interview both times. I was really feeling like I had no clue what I was doing, so the help has been great.

Basically, though, don't expect to see me around as much as when I was in college. I was able to check in more in high school just because I would get bored with homework and need a break. Now that I'll be working, well, I'm guessing I won't have that luxury. I've also been working on some hobbies ad projects that I used to not have the time or energy to do in the evenings now.

I appreciate all the nice messages. But please, no one send out a search party.:hilarious:
Seems things are looking up workwise. hopefully your illness will pass quickly.

I went in to a health center today to have a DOT physical to drive the bus on my new gig at the airport. I cannot tell you how many people walked in while I was waiting, (apparently, DOT physicals are not a high priority) and then walked out wearing a face mask. I think it was more of a test of ones patience. Three hours from the time I checked in until the time I walked out. I'm thinking I will never get those hours back and I didn't even get paid for them. On the plus side from now on if I need to rent a car... it's a 50% discount for employees.

Not such a surprise you had so many nice messages, your a very nice young woman and many of us were concerned as you've never disappeared without a trace before. We had both you and @betty rose missing in the mist so we had that Uh Oh thing a happening.

So happy for a good fit with a new career and that you are hopefully on the mend with new meds. What a February you've had.

Flu cases have skyrocketed here too. Bad season unfortunately. It doesn't help that the vaccine was only 48% effective this year, and last year it was even less effective, so a lot of people probably thought "Oh, why bother getting it" this year.

Note that I am not a medical professional, just someone who has dealt with this a lot: are you taking over the counter decongestants as well as your antibiotic? Sudafed and/or mucinex should help if you're not taking one of those. You can double check with your pharmacist to make sure there won't be any drug interaction, but that should help you with the congestion. On the non-drug side, you can try a vapor rub for at night, and you can run a humidifier in your room at night.

If you're taking a decongestant and your antibiotic and cough medicine, if you're waking up in the middle of the night because you cannot breathe, you need to go to the doctor. If you're feeling like you're using that inhaler more than every four hours, you need to go back to your doctor. If you feel like you are not getting better, go to your doctor.

Also, when you feel like you can't breathe (and I know, this is really hard, but really important), try to relax and don't panic. Find ways of keeping yourself calm. If it really gets bad, go to the ER, but if you can keep yourself calm, you'll find it'll really help you. I know, it's tough. I've had asthma for years, and I still find it tough to stay calm at times, but it's really important to differentiate between "Oh no, I can't breathe! AH!" and "Okay, I can't breathe, how can I handle this?"

Hope this helps. Feel better. :)

Yeah I got the flu shot this year too. You just never know if it will help or not.
No I can't take decongestants because of high blood pressure. When I went to Urgent Care for this bronchitis, it shot up to 180/? So therefore the reason for seeing the dtr tomorrow. My parents both have high bp. I am using the humidifier. Haven't used vapor rub. May try that. I remember Mom putting it on us as kids. I only have to use the inhaler one time when I need it. Last week I used it 3 days in a row but only once a day and always at bedtime when I laid down. That is when it seems to drain into my throat and stick there. And I start to wheeze.
Thanks so much for all your help. :)I feel a bit better now that I can get through whatever this is. I will let you know what the dtr says tomorrow.
