So an update since I don't think I've been on for two weeks now...
Combination of factors, with being busy and being sick. Let's start off with the being sick part so we get the bad stuff out of the way.
I've had a cough since basically getting back from WDW. I went to someone in my primary care doctor's office twice, and they told me it was just asthma. I wasn't buying that it wasn't asthma, so I made the drive and went to my allergist office, and it turns out, I've been walking around with bronchitis for the past four weeks, which certainly explains the cough, fatigue, and sleeping 10-12 hours a day more than, "Oh, it's just your asthma." So now I'm on a 17 day antibiotic course (yes, 17 days, you read that right) and oral steroids. Fun. (Not)
The job that I was initially offered ended up not working out. There were concerns from them (namely, my age and lack of experience) and from me (they only have one small Maryland office that only opened five years ago; concerned about the job security). So I've been job hunting, while also walking around sick.
Last week, I got a random message from a recruiter on LinkedIn. He had found my profile and wanted to talk about a position that he was looking to place. I gave him my number so that we could talk about it. It turned out his agency was looking to place someone at a large corporation that is headquartered in this area, only about 15 minutes from where I live. This is how the timetable went: Monday I got the message through LinkedIn, Tuesday I spoke with the recruiter over the phone, Wednesday I was in their office for an interview, Thursday I went for the interview with the client, Friday they called me and said they wanted me in for a second interview on Monday, which was yesterday. Yesterday I went in for the second interview. I got the official offer this morning which I have tentatively accepted, and I start next week assuming there are no bumps in the road in between now and then. Shouldn't be; it's basically a background check that's left and some paperwork, which the agency is mostly handling for me. This position will be great, though. It's basically an entry-level position with them looking to groom you into a manager. I met the person who used to hold the position; she isn't that much older than me and was promoted to a managerial position. Lots of advancement opportunity, The company has also been around for a long time, so the job security is good, and a family friend has worked for them for 20+ years and attested to them being a good company. Oh, and they're moving the building I'll be in, so it will be more like a 10 minute drive before long. My commute to my old job was about an hour, so this is great, especially since no expressways are involved.
Speaking of agencies, working with one has been so great. They met with me and went over the entire interview with me before I went in, reformatted my resume, told me what to emphasize based on what the company was looking for, how many other candidates were interviewing, etc. They even walked me into the interview both times. I was really feeling like I had no clue what I was doing, so the help has been great.
Basically, though, don't expect to see me around as much as when I was in college. I was able to check in more in high school just because I would get bored with homework and need a break. Now that I'll be working, well, I'm guessing I won't have that luxury. I've also been working on some hobbies ad projects that I used to not have the time or energy to do in the evenings now.
I appreciate all the nice messages. But please, no one send out a search party.
