Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
I've seen a few pictures of that "slush" ice video in New york last year.
And how any car nearby was completely frozen like that.
yikes!

I've seen the frozen cars like that here too. They are not generally natural weather related. Generally a burst in a fire hydrant, a fire collateral damage vs frozen rain or ice storm.

thats a lot of people..also, is it cold and rainy?
No. It was comfortable today. It was about 60 and partly cloudy. I was fine with a sweatshirt. I was colder last year in WDW. We're expecting some rain tomorrow night into Thursday. I'm hoping that helps with crowd control. Other than that, we are not expecting rain. Highs in the mid sixties. Possibly 70s on Sunday. Quite nice.

It was definitely crowded, but it's a more manageable crowded. WDW with the same crowd level becomes unbearable. Here, there's usually something with a shorter wait, and I found today they were overestimating the wait times. PofTC was estimated at 50 and was actually 30. Snow White's Scary Adventures was marked 25 and was actually 15.

That picture was also taken at a parade time.

So excited for you. Are you enjoying a solo portion of your trip a tiny tiny bit? I have. Wouldn't want it all the time but every once in awhile to be a bit self indulgent is kinda nice.
Oh, it was a ton of fun, and I think my friend is glad I worked off some of my energy. I literally walked out of the room singing to the tune of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" "I'm off to see a Mickey, the wonderful Mickey Mouse." Which she thought was funny, but I was still way too excited. She also didn't care; she was more mad about the homework and was glad I was off doing something.

@ajrwdwgirl , @betty rose , and @figmentfan423 , since you all inquired about my first day on the new job, I can tell you that my brain is fried right now! Learning curve is high on this one, but eventually I'll get it. One of the frustrating things is that in a huge institution where I work, it sometimes takes the computer division extra time before they get you on all the programs you need to use to do your job. I was on maybe 70% of what I needed today and it may be a few more days before everything is finally up for me. Aside of that and the fact that I'm completely exhausted, I survived day one! People there are great and that helps a lot. Thanks for asking.
Sorry your first day was frustrating but it sounds like you will have the hang of things soon and start to enjoy your new position. Good luck

Sorry to hear that you fell, that is why I bought stablicers from LL Bean for my shoes this winter. I'm very afraid of falling, I have had some bad falls. The stablicers have given me more confidence when walk on icy/snowy surfaces.
I have a pair and should have had them on but it looked just wet out and they don't really work for power walking:facepalm: I should know by now when in doubt just pop a DVD in :hilarious:

So sorry you were exhausted Minnie, but sounds like the first day went pretty darn well, even so...! :)

Hey all. Happy new year. I'm sorry I haven't been on in a while but generally during the holidays, I'm not too active on the social media. I hope everyone had a great season, and when I walked into Target tonight to buy some toothpaste, they had all the hearts up already (grrrr!!), so happy Valentine's Day 2017! And now it is time for me to annoy you with another one of my little pictorials. :)

First, from my office holiday party. Luckily, I didn't end up dancing on any tables.

A few days later, we went to see a really great professional production of Mary Poppins at the John Engemann Theatre in Northport, Long Island, and someone snapped this of me at a piano in the lobby. No I cannot play. Yes, after drinking that giant glass of wine, I probably think I can:

It's because Phil knows I am a total germaphoble. This is what he thinks is my gag gift every year, but what he doesn't know is that it is one of my favorites, because I am completely insane. :) PS - I was about to say that I finally got photographed without alcohol in my hands, but.....oh wait......

Somewhere in the middle of all this, I heard that one of my plays (set at Christmas, as a matter of fact) was getting great reviews in London. Here is the cast and a couple of reviews are linked below. I think one of them might have a picture of a half naked butt, so beware. ;) :

After a few days of great movies like Manchester by the Sea, Fences, and La La Land, New Year's came, and we went to our favorite overpriced local restaurant, because Phil had gotten some gift certificates there from a couple of his clients. They do an amazing New Year's Eve with lights all over the place, a great menu, tons of booze, and balloons!!!!!!!!!. Right up my alley:

Finally, I went to Times Square for the ball drop, courtesy of Phil's very large tv set!!

Annnnnnnnnnnd that just about closes out my 2016 insanity. Hoping for lots more in 2017.

I loved talking with all of you last year, and I hope we have a bunch more fun in the coming months!
I'm glad you seemed to have such a great holiday and managed to avoid dancing on tables but I would have loved some video of that. I'm evil that way:D Also congrats on the great review but that comes as no surprise because you're such a great writer:) BTW have you ever gone to Times square for NYE? It's fun and crazy but I haven't been since 9/11 and all the new security was added:(

They use sand here, but, I don't think I've seen it used on anything other than bridges and overpasses, so I don't think it has any appreciable affect on any greenery, or any other environmental impact of consequence.
Plus, it's used/needed so rarely down here.

Sand works well on snow, not so much on ice. That's why salt is critical on icy roads and highways. If you drive up in northern Maine, they tend to have more regular snow, versus icy snow. They use a ton of sand up there on the roads and it works quite well. The decision to use one or the other (and sometimes a mix) always depends up on the temperature and moisture in the air. Canada has some cool solutions (under specific conditions) with beets! No kidding.

I do have one castle pic from today...
View attachment 182748

The rest are on the camera.

It was definitely CROWDED. If I hadn't been so completely intent on riding PoftC, I would have gone to DCA. I had to get PofTC out of my system first. I still was only there for about 4 hours and managed to get lunch, ride four rides, and go through Sleeping Beauty Castle before heading out.

In other news, my friend is still doing her homework. She's going to do everything due this week tonight and then take a quiz Sunday morning. She says she doesn't care if she's up all night; she wants to enjoy her vacation.

Also, I hear fireworks.

I'm really surprised to hear that it was so crowded--the first week of January? Aren't most people back to work and/or school?? I wonder if it was perhaps foreign tour groups?

Of course the WDW monorails have horns and they are very loud too, as does the Disneyland Monorails. Even with automation the monorails are planned to still have pilots for unusual circumstances. Plus how would you not wipe out a squirrel (WDW) or a family of ducks (Disneyland) that take an impromptu stroll down the beam?

Precisely. Automation has its place and I think of it as a safety backup, but I'll never approve of them taking away all the pilots. This argument goes full circle from time to time in other threads, but that's my opinion. They'll keep some of the pilots, but not all--it's a new system they're using now.

Buddy, you always bring a smile to my face! I enjoyed reading your holiday recap and the pictures were fun. (And what a special gift from Santa--hand sanitizers--some kids are just so lucky on Christmas morning!) :hilarious: By the way I really love the photo of you at the piano with the wreath behind you--I'd throw that one in a frame. :)

And oh--that reindeer sweater!!! :p :D

Happy New Year, Buddy!! :joyfull:
