It's looking like our family Christmas celebration is going to be postponed. DD woke up with a fever of 102.2 so we gave her a paracetamol and sent her back to bed. Fever went down for a bit but a couple hours later she was at 104.5. Called urgent care, but they say the temperature isn't as important as how sick she feels. She can move her head with no problem, she's not lethargic, and she has no strange rashes, so they said just to keep giving her paracetamol and make sure she drinks plenty of fluids and call back if she gets worse. Poor kid is freezing, but burning up at the same time. We can't risk bringing it to my BIL, who had a kidney transplant 10 years ago and has to go to the hospital immediately if he gets a fever. So it looks like it's going to be a quiet Christmas at home. I REALLY hope the rest of us don't catch it...it's running rampant at the moment. More than 1/3 of the 6th graders were out sick the day of their Christmas party, and 2 of the 3 4th grade teachers were home sick too.

Well, that's lousey all around. I hope she feels better very soon. So sorry to hear that she is ill during Christmas time. That just makes it worse, the poor kid.

I hope you can still have a nice Christmas as home.

Merry Christmas to you, your hubby, and Jack!!!

Christmas prep is all done. Hubby has two services tonight, and since Christmas is on a Sunday he will have a service too. He finished all his prep for it yesterday, but he has a bad cough and his voice is going in and out. Not good with all the speaking he will have to do. I have him drinking honey and lemon water to help it, which he hates but he is doing it without complaint because he is so worried about losing his voice.

Oh no -- another person coming down with something right at Christmas!! :banghead: Your hubs must be beside himself--on probably the biggest religious holiday of the year--and he's losing his voice?! Quick--get him to write down his sermon, and create a PowerPoint presentation. Then, if there's a computer and an LCD at the church, he could just run the slide show--and wouldn't have to talk!!! Yes, Minnie saves the day again!!

He is more of a nervous wreck than he usually is. Christmas Eve (and Easter) are the biggest services of the year and he always wants everything to be perfect. The services are always wonderful, but he is so type A. So this voice thing has thrown him for a loop, he does have a microphone he can use so that will help. The power point idea is a good one but not enough space for the set up for a Christmas service, we have done screen projections before (for youth presentations) and the projector and screen take up a decent amount of space, that tonight will need to be filled in with people. Maybe for the service tomorrow though! He does type up his sermons (but never reads from it) so if need be someone could read it for him. His sermons are pretty short about 5-7 minutes so if he doesn't over do the singing he might be okay. :)

I went to Midnight Mass just once--I think I was about 18 at the time and went with friends. As for now, I'd be asleep well before midnight, so I'm glad that you are a night owl and can enjoy it. I just go on Christmas morning when I'm awake. ;) Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I hope everything works out for him. Even if someone read it for him, that would be good, too. By the way, I like his timeframe for sermons--no longer than 7 minutes. I hate long sermons, so he gets points for his brief ones!

I like his timing for sermons too. So does the congregation, last time we were gone the guy that filled in was long winded. The church council president half-way joked that Brad couldn't get that guy to replace him again. The council president said he timed him and said he went for 27 minutes! :jawdrop:

Hahaaa...!
Last year it lasted well over an hour, but, as usual, it was well worth the time, as Father Izzy is a hoot and a half, and the music was awesome...! :)
I was raised on midnight mass, for the most part, and so were our kiddos. It's actually kinda' funny, now that our kiddos are older, how much of an important tradition it has become for them...! :)
