Yes. :banghead: Yes they would.

When my kids were still in elementary school a very good friend of mine and I were at a party together. They took a trip to WDW and was aware of our frequent trips. She started going off the deep end with her 5 kids chiming in how they wished they could have jumped off the Haunted Mansion during the ride. Learned that had changed religions and our beloved HM was now a satanic and that it had no place in a family park. Went from sharing our love of WDW to being put in a position of defending exposing my children to Satanism. We're not so close anymore.

Due to various reasons, some school districts delay for 2-3 hours; others, none at all. It helps to not cancel a whole day of school, as it picks away at the allowance the school districts have for snow days when they really have to shut down. (And then they'd have to tack on additional days at the end of the school year to make up the hours missed.)

Plus, I think it's better for the kids to realize that a delay, when warranted, is one thing, but that "business is usual" (heading into school after the delay) is how they'll have to live their lives moving forward. Better that they start to accept this reality now, instead of being coddled. (And I'm not referring to the really little school-age kids--it's more about the middle to high school aged kids). Just my opinion only here.

We don't do unscheduled early releases or late arrivals. We either cancel or stick with our bad judgement call and sit through the fallout later. Our leadership has always looked at the family dynamic and where the parents are during the day. Many commute to Chicago via Train, many work at Ohare. Most have backups for days off but it is difficult to call an audible to we are closing in 2 hours and trains only run every 2 hours non rush hour plus over an hour train ride. Reverse, 3 hour delay, then catch a train when the next one is available and parent is almost 5 hours late to work. We have daycares with their own buses that serve 3 school districts, if they all pulled the audible there would be even more kids arriving even later or being picked up later.

Good points, under those circumstances.

Funny! I've had advent calendars with chocolate and without. The ones I've had with chocolate have always had low quality chocolate so they were a little disappointing.

This one will make you thankful for Christmas everyday. Your bank account not so much.

in other news.. I wonder if I should work as a photographer. I manage to take photos of friends and family on special events.. even when they take 6+ hours x_x

(hint, just went to a 50th anniversary of some long time friends of my father and mother, and friends of mine. Including photo session in their home, church and then on a restaurant event)

When my brother and I were in college, we went shopping with my mom in Casper...I don't remember the occasion. So we're walking through the mall and there was this store that had all sorts of mythical creature things...dragon drink coasters, figurines of gargoyles, snow globes with faeries...my brother and I really wanted to go in, mom refused. So finally we just decided to go in ourselves and left mom sitting on a bench. As we're walking into the store, mom grumbles "Anything Satanic" and was very grouchy that her two children, whom she had raised in a strict Lutheran household, had the audacity to ignore her advice against going into the satanic store. I really wanted to remind her what Gargoyles are.

Well, it is snowing again, we are supposed to get about 5-6 inches by tomorrow morning. School actually got out 2 1/2 hours early, that was nice. Although I first heard about the early dismissal from the students, the bus drivers told them they would be getting out of school early as they dropped them off at school! About a half hour later we got the official text and email.
The best ones I ever got was when the boys were gone about 20 minutes and they turned the busses around and one time they were just about at the school when grammar school got cancelled and they kept the upper grades just long enough to have some of the day count. Those both happened the same year.

When I was in first grade, the nuns had the Advent calendar in our classroom. Each day one of the kids could open up a "window" on it, and read the prayer of the day. Meanwhile, my little Protestant friend (who went to public school) had an Advent calendar at home, and she'd open up a window each day--and there would be candy . . .

So in a feeble attempt, I started praying to God for candy, hoping that at least one of the Advent days (oh, God, please . . .) we didn't have to pray, but could EAT! :hilarious:
You lived in the wrong parish, we got Advent calendars with candy
