My girlfriend adopted a daughter from China. 5th grade she wanted to play the French Horn. What she was assigned was the violin.

I don't understand why some schools assign instruments to their students. My school growing up didn't, although there was a cap to how many could choose which instrument. But if the instrument you picked was full you got to pick another one. The school that I teach at doesn't assign either.

My niece's school does assign and she really wanted to play the flute but they wanted her to play the saxophone. My sister didn't like that her daughter couldn't choose so she told the band instructor that I had been teaching her(my niece) how to play the flute since I had played. The instructor reluctantly let her play the flute, luckily she picked it up quickly.

But it seems to me that if someone plays what they want they will be more interested in it. Learning how to play isn't always easy so why make it something that might not be pleasurable?

Unfortunately, I live in an area where the VA Cemetery's are filled, and it doesn't appear that anyone is leaving anytime soon. I had to resort to buying one in a special veterans section of NC oldest municipal cemetery. That area has VA supplied headstones of the common Military Cemetery design with monuments to the different services in the area. Since both of us had made the decision to be cremated I have allowed my X to be buried there as well. (same lot) She passed with no money at all and the burden of paying for a suitable burial spot was going to fall on my girls. She will be there with a small ground plaque and when I pass... her information will also appear on the back of my headstone. At that point, I don't think that it really matters what the history was and it will make it easier on the girls.

That is kind. And in the end you are right, that chapter of history will not change for your girls. Ultimately you guys are Mom and Dad to them, all that matters.

But what is up with Veterans Cemeteries being full? We as a Nation continue to make new veterans so wouldn't one think we could continue to make new Veteran Cemeteries? The 'things' we are not aware of is annoying and we only become informed by chance.

My Dad is not resting close in Illinois, especially from where he lived. It is South, not Central Illinois but far-more south and west to be considered N. IL or Chicagoland. There was a military portion of the funeral service and my Mom has his Flag, come to think of it, not sure where she put that
flag. But the place is beautiful and far from full. A friend of his from Childhood is near him and friends widow visits my Dad every week when she visits her hubby. :cyclops:

Hugs. All that sounds awful.

Yeah, my folks and rightfully so never talked about funds and assets, they just didn't but we were lead to believe that their affairs were in order. HA! So we went from 'we don't want to talk about it' or really won't talk about it to my Mom sitting there as we try and sort through it all and attempt to get her situation straightened out and while we are at it her someday after life.

I have not heard 'I don't know' this much since my children were toddlers. Earlier in the week, (you have all the stuff in folder to bring with us to attorney's?) No. I will go to safety deposit box. Fine. Get there. I don't have it. (Huh?)
Well I went this morning but you know it is Veterans Day and the Bank is closed!!! in an annoyed voice to me. (like we didn't discuss it being a holiday and the very reason my Sis could fly in.) :cautious:

That's the system my ds' school uses, I like it so much better than the bad old days
