We ripped the old lights out, and strung another set to replace. I'm tired of doing the tree by myself, so I'm doing a 4 foot one on the table with gifts under. That's all.

I went to a much smaller tree a few years back. I had new livingroom and dining room furniture. The 7 ft tree no longer had a space and I was fine with that. The much shorter tree now goes on an endtable near the hallway so I see 3 sides. Just my favorite ornaments go up. I love it.

I'm embarrassed to say that I am one of those people that when all else fails I will read the instructions. That device seems simple enough why would anyone need the instructions. Turns out if you don't break the "juice" cell you will break every blood vessel in your mouth trying to get juice out of them. Just a simple pressure roll of the fruit would have taken care of that and made the experience so much more pleasant. One of lifes many lessons.
Ouch!

I like the smaller tree too. Back in the day...I put up 5 Christmas tree's and decorated them all. The largest was a 9 footer. I'm so short now, and even back then I needed a ladder to decorate. I'm so over all that excess!

Thanks. Certainly understand. At least we won't have that 108 year anchor-curse. City estimating over 5 million fans.

So glad @ajrwdwgirl I didn't head into Chicago. They cannot accomodate the riders at either train station to exit the city.

and this is the Great Hall at Union. This is not where the trains depart from but a huge waiting room/stage event room that they herding future train riders to because the other areas cannot accommodate them. This is the overflow that can make it into the station.

Metra Rail said it is their largest ridership EVER.

That looks pretty crazy. I think hubby and gang were going to take the train in but they might have changed their mind and drove in. Hubs and his sister wanted to go to their parents grave and put a W flag on it, and that is over by Des Plaines I think, I can't remember. I'm sure hubby has some stories but I haven't talked to him yet. Although he did text something about damage to his sunglasses which is not good as they are prescription and we have Disney coming up soon!

I only have a couple favorite movies, for Christmas that I never get tired of....Christmas Story....that could have been my history, with the coal furnace, and a dad with very colorful language, and being told to clean our plates. The other is Christmas in Connecticut. No one seemed cold from the snow , and everyone lived happily ever after. I know I'm sucker for times that never were. But I like to live in a bubble as far as movies go.

I'm not a big fan of the Christmas Story. My favorite movie and favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas. I will probably watch it about 6 times or more during the season. I only let myself watch it at the Christmas season, its corny but I love it. There is a stage production of White Christmas in St. Paul this season, I really want to go. I have seen it before and although it is a little different than the movie it is still wonderful. Plus it is in my favorite theater in the St. Paul/Minneapolis area. I'll have to talk to hubby about it when he gets back from Chicago, he'll be in a good and more likely to agree. Although he loves musicals more than me.

Christmas in Connecticut is a movie I just discovered a couple years ago, it is a fun timeless movie too.

It has now been 30 years that we have being going out to dinner for Thanksgiving. I was married only a few years, my Sis in law school, my Mom was a teacher and worked the Wednesday before when she said Uncle. While I did enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at home it was so much work. Days before prepping. Up early to get bird in and all the sides that go with it. The pots and pans and all the dishes. Then the clean up. Just crazy.

And no matter where we had Thanksgiving the 'work' and clean up and shopping wasn't shared equally. While I love hearing of all the families that enjoy all the cooking and family meal time I just won't and glad my Mom decades ago said no more. We get to choose our meat and have upto 24 side dishes along with it. I can order any wine I wish. When we are done my Mom leaves a massive TIP (that they often come back to make sure she didn't make an error and she explains it is her Thank you for not having to do this) and we push our chairs in and leave all the mess behind, go back to her home and have dessert-from the local bakery. It is a lovely tradition.
We didn't have Thanksgiving at home for so many years. Hubby had to work the next day, and it was just him , DD and me. I loved going out. We had the big meal, in a big red barn, with the best food...water was delivered in a big mason jar, red and white check clothes on the table so much fun. We loved sharing this meal with so many older people! Those were the good old days for us!

I love White Christmas too, you have to have been brought up in the 40's and 50's in the mid west to appreciate Christmas Story. I love Ralphie, and Randy. My brother wanted a bb gun, and was told he would shoot his eye out. He got one anyway, my dad bought it! ;););)

Time for me, to find hubby. I'm going to read a book, and old Phyllis Whitney mystery. You can't find these books anymore. No longer being published. She passed away several years ago. She was a great mystery writer, a very descriptive script. I can get lost in the scenery she paints! Good night, all. Have fun tonight! Loved spending time with you all!:joyfull::joyfull::joyfull:

Me, I love to read and reread Erma Bombeck books. I can relate and continue to make me laugh.

Never go to a doctor whose office plants have died.

When your mother asks, "Do you want a piece of advice?" it is a mere formality. It doesn't matter if you answer yes or no. You're going to get it anyway.

Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart.

Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.

Thanks to my mother, not a single cardboard box has found its way back into society. We receive gifts in boxes from stores that went out of business twenty years ago.

I think it's time we women stopped carrying supplies for the entire family. If children don't have room to carry their own toys, if men don't have pockets in their pants, tougho.

I never leaf through a copy of National Geographic without realizing how lucky we are to live in a society where it is traditional to wear clothes.
