3/4 of a mile from Grant Park where the Cubs rally is taking place.

Once a year the Chicago Plumbers Union dyes the Chicago River Kelly Green for St. Patricks Day. Today they dyed it Cubbie Blue

Crowds for parade before rally reportedly well behaved.

And better weather than those Bears had all those years ago.

Sooo very happy for y'all up there, Gabe!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Just crazy-cool after a 108 year wait...!!!!! :)

If the same 2 teams end up in the Series next year though, I'll be rooting for Cleveland...you know, their turn, and all...! ;)

Thanks. Certainly understand. At least we won't have that 108 year anchor-curse. City estimating over 5 million fans.

So glad @ajrwdwgirl I didn't head into Chicago. They cannot accomodate the riders at either train station to exit the city.

and this is the Great Hall at Union. This is not where the trains depart from but a huge waiting room/stage event room that they herding future train riders to because the other areas cannot accommodate them. This is the overflow that can make it into the station.

Metra Rail said it is their largest ridership EVER.

wow, huge crowds!

These people waiting a long long time for this...listened to their grandparents, great grandparents long for this day.

I would have loved to have gone but this is beyond my comfort level. Friends kid dropper her iPhone unknowingly. Stranger caught up to her to give it back to her. Chicago on a good day. From what I am hearing so far it has been orderly and peaceful-minus some twits jumping in the River. That River looks pretty Blue. Not something you'd ever want to dip a toe into. :depressed:

Hubby was pretty excited this morning. I went to bed at the rain delay so I didn't know the outcome. Although at one point maybe about 3:30 am I woke and thought " well I didn't hear hubby yell so maybe the Cubs lost" and I went back to sleep. Turns out when they won hubby grabbed a pillow to muffle his shouts of joy the ran out to his car to continue shouts of joy and phone calls so he wouldn't wake me up. :)

Sorry about your loss @MOXOMUMD i think both teams did a great job and played with a lot of heart, just the way it should be.
I hate when there has to be a winner and loser. Both teams were so deserving. They both played a really good series. I'm glad I got to watch this. I've been a Royals fan, since we lived there, when they won the world series. So fun . I can only imagine how the Cub's felt!

I'll take that. Anything but what everyone is suffering through right now. I can't wait to see Christmas movies!
It is a sad and scary country right now. I don't expect it to be over with completely, but, at least it should calm down a little. However, starting Christmas Movies the 1st of November is a little over done. By Christmas we will have seen every one ever made about 6 times. Everything gets 'blah' when we are exposed to it enough.

:depressed: Too early . . . and not that anyone cares, but I'll share this anyway. When I was growing up, we used to love watching TV on Thanksgiving (after the big meal), and getting excited by all the brand new Christmas commercials. They would debut on Thanksgiving. Then, the day after, (Friday) we'd go into the city's big downtown shopping area with all the departments stores, and gaze at all the beautifully decorated Christmas windows. I have such happy memories.

Now, they push holiday commercials much sooner, and most of them aren't nearly as pleasant as before. And, just today, someone told me that Kohls was having some sort of pre-Black Friday sale thing today (something like 64 pages of stuff online). Jeepers, it's only November 3rd. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mind picking up presents for people during the year if I just happen to see something nice. I don't do all my shopping around Thanksgiving, by any means. But I just kinda miss the older traditions. And hot chocolate . . . and candy canes.
I agree, I remember not thinking about Halloween until , two weeks, before. Thanksgiving the first week of November, then Christmas didn't start until the first of December. I hate all the commercialism of the Holiday's today. I will keep with the old traditions. I just watch T.V. after I have recorded what I want to watch, and skip the commercials. But, I'm not liking T.V. right now. Nothing I care to watch and way too many reruns and commercials. I forgot to mention, I never watch, ABC. NBC. or CBS. I do like the Science channel, History Channel and a cooking channel, the rest can go by by. JMHO.

What a blissful day it has been to be an Illinoisan. Sure fans are a bit groggy today but nobody is cranky-everyone is having so much fun. The fireworks and singing went on into the wee hours of the morning. While I've seen this type of celebrations with our other teams over the years when they win a championship, this is different. That over 100+ years, the legend that has lived on for decades about the Billy Goat, it has all been kinda magical. Seems every conversation had today involved the Cubs.

The celebration and parade is tomorrow starting in Wrigleyville. The players are going to beloved by their fans for a long long time. :inlove:
I hope we get to see this out here. I love parades, of happy people!

I only have a couple favorite movies, for Christmas that I never get tired of....Christmas Story....that could have been my history, with the coal furnace, and a dad with very colorful language, and being told to clean our plates. The other is Christmas in Connecticut. No one seemed cold from the snow , and everyone lived happily ever after. I know I'm sucker for times that never were. But I like to live in a bubble as far as movies go.

That was my childhood too. My Mom would take us to Downtown Chicago to visit Santa, look at Windows and buy a few Christmas outfits and shoes. There wasn't really much in the way of malls when I was small. You'd shop in the closest larger city. 6 weeks ago Macy's had all their trees up displaying ornaments for sale this year. Bluck.

I love Christmas but now I'm kinda done with it before it arrives. My stuff is down generally by NY Day. The entire calendar is off now. We get Halloween in August, Christmas in September, shorts and bathing suits in February and winter coats and boots in June. I tried to buy a pair of flip flops in August. Nope.
You have read my mind. I pretend, for the Grandsons. But I can't stand every holiday shifting and moving together.

The military has its softer side. :inlove:

Keeping promise, man listens to Cubs win at dad's gravesite

.AP.
Wayne Williams kept a pledge he and his father made to each other and shared a moment they'd both been waiting for all their lives.

The North Carolina man drove to his father's gravesite in Indiana to listen to the Cubs win Game 7 of the World Series. Wearing a Joe Maddon replica jersey and a Cubs cap he'd recently purchased, Williams listened to the Cubs' 10-inning, 8-7 victory on his smartphone Wednesday night at his father's grave in the military section of Greenwood Forest Lawn Cemetery in suburban Indianapolis.

Williams told WTHR-TV (http://bit.ly/2fHsbEm ) he and his father had a pact: When the Cubs got into the World Series again, they would listen to the games together.

His father, also named Wayne Williams, was a Navy veteran. He died of cancer in 1980 at age 53. Williams said he knew on Sunday night what he would have to do if the Cubs kept their title hopes alive.

"If they win tomorrow, I have to be heading out the next morning," he said, noting that his wife "supported it fully."

The 68-year-old retired customer trainer said unlit roads made the trip a little difficult. He also said trying to get to his father's gravesite required as few stops as possible if he was to make it by the first pitch.

Cemetery workers kept the gates open for Williams, who was greeted by TV news crews as he took his spot and tuned in.

As Williams listened, he said his wife sent text messages saying, "They're killing me. They're killing me."

Finally, after 10 innings and a rain delay, the Cubs rallied to take the lead and held off the last bid for a Cleveland rally. Williams, a Cubs "W" flag draped on his fold-out chair, said his celebration was subdued.

"I just kind of said `We did it,' like I had anything to do with it," he said. "I know how much he would have enjoyed it."

As he headed back to his home in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Williams said he would watch a recording of the game. By then, he said he thinks the idea of the World Series championship will have sunken in.

"I'll be able to work my way through it," he said.
