The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

Quite a few years ago, my family had Thanksgiving dinner with my father, who was an Alzheimer's patient at the VA Hospital. It was bittersweet. There was a small meeting room on the ward, and the staff set up a few tables for families of patients, that chose to come and have Thanksgiving dinner with their family member. (Families called ahead of time to reserve, so they knew it was just 4 families coming.). So, out of a ward of about 30-40 patients, only 4 families came. We felt that being with my father on that day, was the true meaning of Thanksgiving.

We were all so grateful to the staff at the VA for trying their best to make the dinner pleasant. They were always so busy there, and yet they took the time to type up a Thanksgiving dinner menu with a holiday picture on it, and placed it at each plate. They had cheerful Thanksgiving paper tablecloths and napkins. Their food service dept., also did their best to provide a nice dinner. I'll never forget the wonderful staff at that VA Hospital.

Sympathy like, but, also so very glad to hear y'all spent that precious time with your pop. :)

When the kiddos were younger, my MIL worked in a retirement/nursing home.
That was the same time the girls were in Girl Scouts and DWifey was the leader of both their troops. All of us volunteered at many different celebrations and events there during that time.
It was sooo worth it to see how happy the residents were to see us, and the time we spent, and the conversations we had with them.
It seemed many of their families didn't visit very often. Not judging, just an observation.
I remember having a conversation with one gentleman for over an hour about his time as an engineer on a Navy destroyer during WWII, and the business he started after the war. How it ran and grew for many years thereafter. It was fascinating. :)
We also brought a few approved treats and things, and it was always so nice to see the smiles on their faces when they entered the dining room, or activity room where the event was happening. :)
And yes, the staff was awesome there, too. Good memories...hopefully for them, too...! :)

There is a video of exactly that in the food documentary of the Oasis of the Seas.
I remember they mentioned more than 4,000 lobster tails per week. approximately 900Kg (almost 1 ton of lobster).
I particularly loved the amazing burger patty machine.

I will have to look for that! Just the amount of refrigerator and freezer space. Wooba.

As much as I've always dreamed of it  :D, I have, unfortunately, never been "That guy". :( ;)
Although, on our July of '07 trip I showed up on the pre-show video screens as "Needs a hug!", and was promptly hugged by both DD's who were sitting on either side of me...that got a good chuckle from the other Guests...! :geek: :)

In 2007 we went down while my DS was doing the college program for my DD sweet 16 birthday. My son knew exactly where to seat her so she was 'picked on.' She so did not enjoy the experience.

I don't mind any of that fun at all...bring it on...! I make so much of myself as it is, it's all just part of the fun to me...! :)

And yep, that '07 trip was also the one our oldest DD had her Sweet 16 on.
I won't go into the details again, but, as you know, as well as with your DD's Sweet 16 trip, it was a trip and celebration she, and we, will never forget...!!!!! :joyfull: :)

Good morning. My dh is already at work and it's starting to warm up. I can't believe how much I got done yesterday I fixed my sewing machine(my dh used it and I had to reset a few things:mad: He took the foot plate off and put it back on incorrectly:cautious: at least he didn't really break it, I really feared it would need to go in for repairs), I cut out the last of the fleece for projects to get done by Christmas, conquered mount laundry and tackled an old serger which is still missing a thread guide but it's nice and clean, properly oiled, running like new even having to improvise a thread guide the stitches came out balanced. At least I have an excuse to go to the sewing machine store some time soon:joyfull: and I took a chicken and turned it into chicken noodle soup for the guys.
