And on that note: Did you guys see that Disney is actually encouraging guests to bring food and beverages into the Tiki Room????
They want to sell those Dole Whips! :hungry:

Saw they brought back the cream cheese pretzels, jalapeno pretzels can't be too far away right?:geek:
The Tiki Room has been closed since we have been here. Going to try to see it again tomorrow.

A few notes while I remember, Disney has added more bench's. We got our meal finished at Peco's Bills and a cm offered us more free cokes. They took our empty tray and the trash away. I'm seeing more effort oTn the part of the Disney staff. It's been a very nice trip. Other than a few glitch's with rides, Living with the land had technical problems and increased our time in line 30 minutes. Many left so we moved closer to the front of the line! Saratoga has cleaned up every flower bed, and moved plants away from the sidewalks. They put down pine needles and wood mulch, it looks much nicer, and not untidy. May be a snake deterrent too. I've seen no snakes or alligator's. And we have been walking near water around DS and Saratoga. They are definitely doing better. Everyone has been very friendly and nice. This has been the nicest trip in a long time. More CM's out and about, along with much more security. Disney has definitely changed for the better. It's cleaner too. Only a few pictures .....hubby was ready to leave after tower of terror, needed to get his heart rate back down. He came back and took a quick nap.IMG_4757.JPG

It seems they are noticing the complains trying to improve.
It was also mentioned in another thread that they are again ditching the "disney parks" generic drink bottles and finally returning to the "Disney World". Hopefully this trend continues with the napkins.

That looks so yummy, nuts best picked off though. No meat in my salad or stuffing, no nuts in my ice cream. Yep there are more rules to that list. :joyfull:

Did you see that Planet Hollywood is teasing their menu. Here is the shakes they posted today. Now how you drink that???? Instead of a designated driver you'll need a designated friend that is trained for Heimlich.

Blah. I really didn't care for the concept. Once there was ed-line and the kids were doing well, doing their work etc., and all the assignments were online and we had virtual backpacks, I really didn't see the point. Still I always went, didn't want to be labeled as one of those parents. :cyclops: Though I always wanted to see the speech pathologist, needed to sit on my hands so I didn't pinch her really really hard.

I remember PE teacher requested a conference with me for DS (6) and it was difficult to wedge in over the dates and times available. Teach was concerned because everything was fine except his Galloping Skills were not coming along too well. :cyclops: :bored: He was a competitive swimmer, played t-ball and at that point soccer :)rolleyes:) and I left work to discuss his Galloping Skills. :banghead:

The conferences weren't really bad except for one. A parent with a Special Ed kid claims I wasn't following the IEP; I have been. I've had this kid for two years, nothing has changed in the IEP. I'm doing everything for this kid I've done for two years. Anyway the parent had a list of accommodations she wanted her student to have none of them are accommodations on the IEP, and really not needed by this student. For most of these accommodations the parent wants the student would need to be in the resource room with the Special Ed teacher but when I pointed that out the parent flipped and said she doesn't want her child to leave my room. Ugh, it was just so frustrating but be accused of not doing my job and having the parent change her mind all the time. The kid is an average student but I think this mom thinks she should be a solid A student.

I just don't know what this woman wants, but I do have to meet with her again tomorrow, this time with my boss and the special ed teacher. And even more frustrating the parent is a teacher in our district too. Also frustrating, that now that this kid is in high school I have to deal with the high school special ed teacher who will never come into my classroom to help support the students. Sorry for the vent, I'm still a little irritated by it. Thanks guys for letting me vent.

We do a couple hours both Wednesday, Thursday after school early evening, Friday Morning, Teachers then have Friday afternoon and Monday off as comp time.

As my DS aged we'd bolt. We had so many days off for report card day (in-service 2 day) Veterans Day, 2 conference days off and usually a field trip as the new quarter started. We'd leave for Halloween and come back from Disney after Veterans Day. They'd be out about 2 weeks but only miss usually 5 days of school and long before the next quarters report card.

I've said it before but our District has soooo many in-service days.

We used to do Monday (all day) and THursday evening with Friday off. We don't have Friday's off anymore. :( It gets to be a long week.

I want a Le Crusset 6 quart, color unimportant. ok that and core room for my cooking items

I have a knock off Le Crusset, I really like making stews and roasts in it. Le Crusset is so expensive, but maybe some day....

Sympathy like and a big hug. I don't have any this year. My baby is now at the point you only get them if your child needs them. I guess it's a good thing he doesn't qualify but it also means he's getting older:(

Thanks! I'm glad for you that your baby doesn't need conferences, it means he's a good kid. Too bad about the getting older part....

This is going to sound like bragging, but, even though I'm proud of my girls, this isn't about that. My wife and I used to go to both of their conferences year after year. All we ever heard was what a delight they were. How hard they worked at getting good grades, well behaved and helpful whenever they could be. Sounds wonderful, but, one would start to think that we could just make a recording of one conference and then be able to stay home and watch TV and play it back when we had a few minutes.

Sunday I was visiting my youngest and she and her son were having an intense discussion concerning his current intellectual status. He (and his Father) feel that sports are far more important then school work. He was making every excuse he could think of for why he didn't do well on a quiz or get an assignment done. Things like... the teacher didn't cover that part in class, (funny how everyone else seemed to know the material) or that he was tired and didn't quite get something finished, etc. I couldn't help but to walk over to my daughter and put my arms around her and hugged her, told her I loved her and thanked her for being a wonderful child. She and her sister saved me and her mother massive amounts of anxiety.

Awesome! I like having the "wonderful" conferences but I feel a little bad for the parents that are wasting their time hearing the wonderful comments.

Feel free to vent! And would love to hear how this one works out.

I was likely the biggest pain in the tush myself advocating for my DD with her IEP and they likely praised the Lord when she moved to High School. I've said it before it is why I became a board member. She was non verbal, then verbal but nobody but my friend and her brother could understand, go figure. I enlisted Easter Seals help because the insurance would not pay for Speech because schools were required at age 3 years old for early intervention. School refused to accommodate because they didn't have a slot/time.
With guidance from Easter Seals they had me write a letter requesting a yellow special ed bus pick her up and transport to nearest district at their expense that could accommodate her needs. They rethought it.

During that year we discovered she could read and was reading chapter books at 4 years old. They likely regretted it but did a IQ test on her and it was very high. She only had to be shown a math concept once in most cases and grasped. She prefered to look at a text vs being taught cause it moved so slow for her and she found text clearer. Yet the speech interfered with spelling and higher level vocabulary words along with communication. And that is where her IEP started conflicting with their Gifted Program. That kid for years spent so much time out of the classroom I'm surprised her teacher knew her name lol. I realized it was a broken system that needed to be fixed and I couldn't do that as a parent. Enter me running for election. It was baby steps to get movement, getting other members to grasp. I did manage to get our Special Ed overhauled for all those who followed her, most of which only partially benefited my DD by the time it was all implemented.

We are a very small district and I think that also played into the problems with Special Ed here with IEPs and Gifted.

In high school my DD had the same math teacher 2 years in a row. Hands down the best teacher she ever had. It was with her guidance my DD went for a degree in Statistics and Mathematics vs pulling a teaching degree, she instead pulled the certificate as an add on to her majors.

In high school there were 2 conferences, 1 each semester. At the second one I sat down and she asked me why I was there *long pause* we have nothing to discuss was her statement. I left a tad shocked at her directness. But she was right and I was wasting her time I guess.

Nice to hear about the improvements. We have had CMs taking our table stuff away for a while now. I think it is there effort to keep the tables turning. I think I first noticed this when they went to holding guests from tables until they had their food, freeing up more tables until then. Downside is it makes the ordering area more crowded in busier times.
