Sauerkraut is a new one to me too for Thanksgiving. I make green beans, grans stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, hawaiian rolls, jello, fresh corn, cranberry sauce, then various olives too. But my ThanksGiving dinner is always the day after Thanksgiving.

When we are in town which is most of the time we go out to a high end steakhouse for dinner. You order your main course meat and then there is about 25 side dishes you get to pick and choose between, as much as you wish. Always one of my favorite meals of the year. Frankly I am not a fan of Turkey.

This year will be different for us too without my Dad. Should be interesting.

Sympathy like in regards to your pop.

I like turkey plenty fine, but, I love a good ham more...! :hungry:

I don't like sweet potatoes, so I never made that dish either. There is one dish that I tend to make during the holidays though, and that's the green bean casserole, with the crunchy onions on top. :hungry:

The melted marshmallow yam thing is definitely one of my pops favorites. Not a major fan myself, but, again, I'll eat it in a pinch.
Green bean casserole is a classic (the crunchier the better ;)) that we are never without...!!! :hungry: :)

I never just sit and watch a ballgame. Too much stress. I was in the middle of sorting granny squares, when the grand slam homerun was hit. Then I leave the room to update my husband in the other room, whose too nervous to watch at all. So I missed the second home run all together. Good think about the long radio/TV delay. I can hear the call, and then really watch the play.

Great game. Magic number is now 7.

As of now we'll be having both turkey and ham for Thanksgiving. The guys plan on filling the smoker again. Turkey, ham, baked beans(homemade),2 types mac and cheese(regular cheese and daiya), sausage, sweet and regular potatoes and corn, they'd better leave some room for my tofu bacon LOL. Guess who's going to spend the first 3 days of the week prepping and cooking:cautious: I have to make the bread for the stuffing, 3 types of cranberry sauce, pies etc. not to mention the above mentioned mac and cheese and beans. Yet some how they're going to take all the credit:rolleyes:

Why am I not surprised that you "already" have your menu planned for Thanksgiving?!! :jawdrop: (Figgy, not to put yo in shock here, so you must sit down to read the rest of this. Hubs, my sister and I go out to eat on Thanksgiving--no cooking! :D Sometimes, I even forget to make the reservation ahead of time, as they sell out--we've had a few close calls!! :p )

@betty rose , I love your happy Halloween pictures from WDW!!! So glad you're down there enjoying the festivities. As @ajrwdwgirl suggested, don't hesitate to go into a/c and drink some extra water. The heat also gave me headaches, and I brought Advil for that. When I went down there in May (which isn't even as hot as it is now down there), I retreated for about 3 hours in the afternoon, back to the a/c my hotel room, or I'd go out to the pool and swim for a short while. I always felt a lot better after that and then returned to the parks later.

We did the same, back to the room for a quick shower and rest. Then off to Disyney Springs, we each had a cupcake from Sprinkles, they were really good. I got the red velvet cupcake with coconut icing...it was vegan and much better than the cupcakes from Erin McKenna's bakery. Not that they were bad, just these were much more moist!

I read a lot of bad reviews of the new Soarin, but we enjoyed it a lot when we saw it in early September.

I am watching the Cubs, and listening to the local radio guys. I have always enjoyed Pat Hughes. .

So funny story sorta of related....I wish Big Ben was in Soarin.

And now for the not so related. So I guess one week the Pittsburgh Steelers did good in a football game. I'm friends with my old history teacher on facebook and he wrote 'Big Ben is on fire' and my brain goes automatically to the parliament building. I look up Big Ben is on fire and it goes to Steelers articles.
