Certainly is better on the ground! Still a delay for engine failure and airborne in 15 minutes was curious enough to make everyone on edge.

He had problems checking a suitcase but wrongfully chalked that up to United spitting back his corporate credit card. But every leg of his journey it was being ding'd. Ultimately through Corporate Finance, the bank etc., while in NOLA 1/4 of way got it through but this is going to trail him I'm sure the entire week. Not helpful this is happening on a Saturday night. At least they finally gave him his freak'n hotel room (not the hotels fault.) Now if they'd overnight him a new one to the hotel that be nice but NOT being the billing address....:banghead:
I just hope these companies are not again skimming on maintenance.
I still remember the horrible DC10 accident from American Airlines that was filmed and seen by thousands of people.
the plane engine on the right wing detached on takeoff, rolled from top and ripped most of the wing.. the plane tanked badly to one side and crashed terribly.
They found that both Continental , American airlines and another airline were using non approved and cheaper methods to dismount engines using a forklift.. cracking the "pylons" that hold the engines on the wing.

Odd. My Mom loves Sweet Potatoes too and is the only one-ever in our family. She'll bake them or mash them. I can remember her telling my DD who like me loves all sorts of veggie foods, how can't you like them (annoyed) you love regular mashed potatoes, they are the same thing, just ORANGE! Me coming to DD defense NO THEY ARE NOT. Mom, YES THEY ARE. :banghead: I took the bowl from my Mom who was about to plop some anyhow on her plate and passed it until the circle was complete and landed in front of my Mom again. oy

:hilarious: :hilarious: :hilarious: What the heck is it about that generation of mothers, that tried to force feed us sweet potatoes?!

A recent college grad employee of my sons just put in her resignation to take a job at a major resort :) In Hilton Head, finally finding a great position for her Park's and Rec degree. A nice young woman and so glad she hadn't packed up her car and moved yet. That would be a horrible first experience. :cyclops:
Yeah, the entire county was evacuated. That would have been rough.

My stepgrandfather's daughter has a house in Hilton Head (although they live up here). I hope their house is okay. There were reports that there was damage to some of the homes in their neighborhood. No word on Disney's property, but there were reports from passersby on the beach that there was no visible damage to the Beach House. No word on the central property, but the greatest worry is likely the bridge leading to the property and downed trees. All the buildings themselves are on stilts, so the flooding probably was not a huge deal.

My mother tried to get me to eat sweet potatoes as a baby. I made it very clear early on I did not like them.

I will eat just about anything else before I eat sweet potatoes. Even when they are prepared in different ways, they still have that disgusting underlying sweet potato taste. I even tried sweet potato fries and found them icky. I cannot think of a single food for which I find more icky than sweet potatoes.

hey @StarWarsGirl
did you see the new series opening this month?
I'm hyped for Syfy's channel 0.
I'm in love with STRANGER THINGS of netflix. And also syfy's THE EXPANSE and DARK MATTER.
You'll have to enlighten me. School keeps me so busy thay TV has basically been an afterthought. I've caught up to Once Upon a Time and Big Bang Theory. I'm behind on the rest.

Seriously? or Teasing?

Yeah, the boys in our family love White Castle. Girls, well we can't even stand the smell. Never got the draw.

Never even tried White Castle stuffing, because we don't have that around here. (We don't have White Castles in our area.)

My favorite stuffing comes from a box--Bells Stuffing. Yum. And to the stuffing mix, I also put in a little extra of their (separate) special seasoning. (A Bostonian, William G. Bell, back in 1867, created his mixture of seasonings. Rosemary, oregano, sage, ginger, marjoram, thyme and pepper--and that's the same salt-free mixture is still sold today.) :hungry:

Are power generators expensive? I read that a lot of people that could bought them in advance of this storm.
Hell, we have our doze of hurricanes and quakes. I'm not even sure if Its wise to buy one. Electricity is usually very stable. But when it goes down, it goes down in style. (aka electric company ignoring calls, noone to report and takes hours of bureaucracy to finally see men on the floor fixing the issues).

Regarding your inquiry to @Goofyernmost , I don't know anything about generators. But, out of curiosity, I did just look at the Home Depot web site; and it appears as though the (ones for homes) at a decent size, start around $1,000, and go up in price from there. (They did has some smaller, cheaper ones, but I don't think those were really for multiple appliances at home.)

SO, there;s some good news and some bad news. The good news is that my play Wonderland Wives won a couple of awards over the past week:
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/best.../best-performance-as-a-talking-mirror-8689374

If you don;t feel like clicking on the link, it says:

"Buddy Thomas's raucous raspberry to childhood's best-known bedtime stories was neatly directed in its world premiere by Nearly Naked founder Damon Dering. If Valley of the Dolls author Jacqueline Susann had written fairy tales instead of potboilers, they might have resembled these second-act stories, whose heroines were all slatternly, marvelously grouchy, and mostly played by men."

That's the good news. The bad news is that just as we were about to start a Go Fund Me to bring it in to the NYC Fringe Festival next year, this was announced:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/01/t...onal-fringe-festival-will-skip-2017.html?_r=0

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A like for the good news!
Sympathy like for the bad news.

Stranger Things, literally 3 series into one, 3 groups of people (kids, teens and adults) all fighting for different parts in a very entangled story about experiments during the 70's. It involves government drama, mystery, thriller, scifi and outright terror.
Think of it Silent Hill meets X-files and e.t..

dark matter and the expanse are TV SCIFI dramas, The Expanse is more thriller, political and fight drama with quite a bit of horror.
Dark Matter is more goofy and light hearted.

1,000 USD doesnt seem that bad for an emergency tool.
I would prefer to use a smaller one to just use lights and maybe floor fans (and the fridge).
