Please stay safe! Are you in an evacuation zone? Can you leave?Tcool's Mathew update
It's here well kinda. I'm in Miami so we're experiencing Tropical Storm conditions, but I'm not exactly comfortable being so close to Broward, Palm Beach, since its all like 30 minutes away. So if Mathew goes a bit south, a lot of people will be screwed. At the moment there strong gusts of wind, and it just started to pour. The sky is pure gray/black. Its only going to get worse from here.
This storm is very serious!Yeah, I saw a news report that said they are closed today for the 4th time in history. It must be pretty serious.
See, the problem is my car lies to me. I was going to school, and it said 1/4 tank, so I thought I was okay. But then as I was leaving, it beeped and said I had a 9 mile range. Lying car gas gauge.Didn't they teach you in driver's ed E is not for enough. I was with a friend and I told her her gas gauge was on E and she said don't worry that's for enough
I didn't post it though. And the reason I mentioned it was not in correlation with the politics....it was because of the highlight of our tendency to long for things so much that we forget about the less desirable aspects of those things. Like the fact that we didn't have vaccines for things like polio and smallpox, and we didn't know the dangers of smoking, especially while pregnant. And especially the attitudes towards women and minorities. It pokes fun at our "the grass is always greener" mentality. Yes, the video has its root in the politics of one particular candidate, which is why I DIDN'T post it or even post a link. So no, my post was NOT of a political nature. The VIDEO, which I did NOT post, was of a political nature. You couldn't get to the video without going offsite, voluntarily, and looking for it. And since I posted that it was rooted in politics, people knew what they were going to find if they decided to go looking for it. But I did not post anything political. I don't know if you clicked on the spoiler or not, or if you watched the video or not, but the only thing in the spoiler was the title of the video IF you were interested. But there was no political content in my post. I just stated that the conversation reminded me of a video, but the video was inappropriate to post here, so I wouldn't, and then I gave the title so anyone who was interested could find it. By your standards, the fact that ajrwdwgirl has mentioned her husband being a pastor means that she's been discussing religion. I'm pretty sure I remember her posting a link to a video from a sermon at one point for anyone interested, but it wasn't "discussing" religion. I'm sorry if it offended you, and it really was not intended as a political statement. It just happened that the message corresponded with what people were talking about on here. But the political content was not on this forum. It doesn't matter whether or not you talked directly about politics. Your post was clearly of a political nature, obviously in regards to a particular candidate, and we have been repeatedly asked by the mods not to go there. And, they have never said it was OK if you "hide" it in a spoiler. The point has always been just don't go there. Period.
Yes, I too, in fact, ignore most of it and move on. But, every now and then I feel the need to speak up because I feel it starts to get out of hand. You happened to be that days lucky winner.
It's nothing personal, it just never ends well.
Sure it did LOL get gas when you're down to 40 miles. That way you know you're good!See, the problem is my car lies to me. I was going to school, and it said 1/4 tank, so I thought I was okay. But then as I was leaving, it beeped and said I had a 9 mile range. Lying car gas gauge.
I hope they are safe! Did they get kicked out of the park early? I read they were closing at like 5 and that today would be closed all day. No idea about how long the parks will close though.Well, both DDs are currently in Epcot for F&W.
They had planned a cruise with members of their workout group about 6 months ago.
They had planned this day at Disney and then the cruise was supposed to depart tomorrow morning, but, apparently has only been delayed by a day. They are staying at a friend (the one we met up with in Epcot after the Princess 5K) from the groups house that lives in Orlando.
As a result of Matthew they will be hunkering down at her place tomorrow, as well, and then are scheduled to cruise one day late on Saturday morning. The cruise will be cut short by that one day. They have each been given vouchers to use on the cruise as a result.
They face timed me earlier this morning as they were entering Epcot. It was pretty funny...!!!
Stay safe my silly dears...!!!!!
I think we have our plans somewhat set for next summer. DC, Hershey and Lancaster Pa. area. We're still not sure if it will be one longer trip or 2 shorter ones. Can't wait to do the southeast Pa. wine tour Last time we did it we came home with a couple of cases of really good wine
Oh was it an unremovable battery? I have a samsung, but I can take my battery out and I've never had a problem with it.Worse, one burned right inside an airplane.. while getting shutdown.
Seems not all batteries of the replacement were correctly tested.
This is a huge bad for Samsung.
I swear im not going to trust any samsung cell phone with an embedded and unremovable battery.
We're gluttons for punishment thinking about going 4th of July week. It's super busy but the only problem we've ever had on the 4th was getting back to the Metro. We bring cards and just hang back until the crowd thins. Even with large crowds it's not bad at all.Been to DC the weekend after Labor Day - no crowds. It was also funny how it seems more foreigners visit DC then we do
That seems pretty reasonable I guess. But can you tell an uber driver from just anyone? I only know that the uber drivers at CBR were uber drivers because they came and asked if we were who they were there to pick up. But I don't remember any distinguishing marks on their vehicle. Granted, it was late at night so it was dark, and I was exhausted after a full day in the parks, so I may not have noticed. But we are from Europe, so we didn't get our magic bands until we checked in. We came by Magical Express, but had we done Uber instead or rented a car and drove ourselves, there's nothing to say they wouldn't have let us in because we did not have our magic bands yet. They'd best have some alternative way of confirming that people are in fact legitimately on property.I agree with you..
also I've seen his behavior..
IF an uber driver is empty.. they are allowed to get in to PICK UP.
If an uber driver has passengers. They MUST show their magicband or disney card to enter any resort.
Didn't someone on here mention once that they were camping at Fort Wilderness when a storm hit and Disney put them in one of the cabins instead, at no extra charge because they were worried about the safety in a camper? Or was that someone on one of the buses at Disney who told me that? It sounds like Disney is at least on top of things when there is a major storm...they do care about the safety (or at least liability). That's great news, disney taking care of their quests.
If you burst the price bubble for this, then everyone will see that everything at WDW is overpriced. They have to keep the facade up that everything costs more at WDW or reality will come bursting through the door and spoil the magic.bargain or not, its still some sort of abuse. Because the guests are TIED DOWN to the resort and cannot leave (think of it as a weather resulted prison) nor order outside food.
Some price mark is good. But I dont think these kind of lunches are even 5 USD.
That's a bummer about the cruise, but at least they are still safe. Do they get reimbursed for the cruise? A few years ago, there was a volcano that erupted in Iceland and a lot of flights were cancelled because of it. Back home, a friend of mine who sings in a choir, this choir was scheduled to go to the UK on tour and their flights were canceled because of ash from the volcano. They did not get refunded at all. And in May, one of the guys in my choir here was scheduled to go on vacation and they had a layover in France. But the french airlines were on strike and so they arrived at the airport only to be told that their flight would not be going and unfortunately, even their trip insurance wouldn't cover it, because their accommodations in Turkey and their flight back were still all valid, so they did not consider it a cancellation. They couldn't go on their trip, and it was too late to cancel without paying, but they were just out the entire amount for the trip. I'd be LIVID. I hope that's not the case with your DDs!Thanks.
Oldest DD sent out a snap chat a few hours ago...they're havin' a Mojito, Margarita, Hurricane party at their friends house in Orlando...
I've been posting a little in the Hurricane Matthew thread, but, I don't think I've mentioned here that their cruise was, of course, cancelled.
Their friend has graciously offered to put them up for their entire stay through Monday night, along with 2 other ladies from their group that were with them in Epcot today. One from Canada, and one from Scotland.
They plan on hitting MK on Sun. Or Mon. Fingers crossed.
I pray our silly girls stay safe, as it looks like the storm may have taken a bit of a western hop.
SVTFOE has been out since early 2015 here on Disney Channel.cartoon show? right now theres a new popular show in CN..
I think its called STAR vs the forces of evil. also gravity falls was very popular.
CBR is open, too. And if you happen to be on the opposite side of the water across from the food court....yikes. That's a HIKE. We were in Martinique, only one or 2 buildings between us and old port royale, and even that was several minutes walking.not to mention all the walking in the open areas towards each hotel building.
I think POR is the most exposed of all the hotels right? along with COR.
Apart from that, I think the worst is OKW. The distance between the farther rooms to the lobby is a huge road.
So are all the restaurants in the resorts closed as well? Are these boxed lunches the only food available? When the food court (temporarily) ran out of food they were offering more box lunches still at $12.99. I guess that is the price they assigned because it was also one dining credit if you were on the dining plan and had a refill mug.
No idea what they did for kids or if it was one dining credit for them too. I guess the risk of buying multiple is the sandwich if they loose power. I can only imagine the assembly line to create the sandwiches and boxes.
I guess it also depends on the resort. All the gift shops were pretty well picked clean from what I've seen on twitter and facebook. At the Poly since it is resort guests only there they offered 30% of rack rate prices for TS dining to take the heat off the QS but still they have to be short staffed also.
You take offline all the park restaurants and Springs and stuff all these guests into the resorts with less staff it isn't going to be pretty. Hope they keep power.
Note to self: If ever in this situation at Disney and have warning. Get food to bring back from parks or Springs and bring back to resort.
My friend in Kissimmee is apparently not worried. She was shaking her head at her parents calling her all worried for her safety. This storm is very serious!
Orlando is far inland enough that it won't be devastating but along the coast people are going to lose homes and hopefully not worse. There are about 400,000 power outages already reported and the worst is still to come from the Space coast north. The will be major flooding. I hope the slight jog to the east lessens that.My friend in Kissimmee is apparently not worried. She was shaking her head at her parents calling her all worried for her safety.
My mom said get gas when I've gone about 290 miles on the trip inidicator. The gas gauge really doesn't work. As I was headed to the gas station, it tried to tell me I should still be able to go 30 miles. That was after it told me I could go 9 miles.Sure it did LOL get gas when you're down to 40 miles. That way you know you're good!
