Teens and college kids now must have a lot more money than I did at that age. I lived on McDonald's, Taco Bell, Ramen and this super cheap Chinese place next to my college apartment. Nothing healthy about any of it, but I survived. :)

I never went to college, but, I shared an apartment with a bubby of mine his junior and senior years down on the University of Texas campus. We ate plenty of ramen, tuna, and Domino's Pizza. But, we also ate very well a lot of the time. I had a job with an architectural firm, and was makin' considerably more money than most of my peers.
Bar tabs weren't a problem either... :cautious:  :D ;) :)

That's why you have to get them from a fruit and veggie stand, or farmer's market. I grew up eating them out of my grandparent's garden, so I don't like store bought tomatoes either.

Yep! My Dad grew tomatoes all the way down the chainlink fence in our yard. He had a knack for beefsteak tomatoes. He liked them because they had more meat and less seed/juice. They were huge and so freak'n red.

Even if I had more money, there weren't a lot of options on campus at the time. Only one of my roommates had a car, so we would all pile in and go out for real food occasionally, but it was just easier to walk down the street to McDonald's. We were kinda lazy lol.

I wasn't a huge drinker in college. I drank some, but not like a lot of people. I get sick really easily when I drink. Just a couple of drinks can make me feel pretty awful...not drunk, just sick. It's weird.

Although nothing near authentic Mexican or Tex/Mex cuisine, there was a time, years ago, when it was cheap and decent. Now, sadly, it's just a recipe for a gastrointestinal conflict.

Yeah the pink slime reminds me so much of canned dog food. Nope, none of my dogs at that let alone any of my family. :in pain:

My DD can't really drink either and really hates the feeling but she is also hypoglycemic. Now DS, well he had lots of fun in college.

My DDs campus didn't have cheap food. Last year they got a small limited menu Wendy's. This year they are building a McDonalds. But neither are cheap. They are not close to the real town and they jack the prices up big time. She could pay almost double for a Wendy's meal as she did Chipotle. They had a lot of independent places, Mia Za's was Italian and she could get a bowl of very good spaghetti and a good size salad for about $7. The one thing I've noticed about college students is they don't drink soda the way students of yesteryear did. They are all carrying a container of water.

True story, without a word of exaggeration:

Two of the medications I take cause extreme dry mouth. Add to that, a stuffy nose, and central heating jacked up a few extra degrees ... and I ended up mouth-breathing for the past two nights.

This morning, my mouth was so dry that my tongue was literally stuck to the roof of my mouth. When the alarm woke me up at 6:30, did I think to take a swig of water first?
No, I did not. I just kind of wiggled my tongue around ... and ended up tearing most of the skin off the roof of my mouth.
Holy jumping it hurt. Still hurts! I'm going to have to put a bit of Oragel on it in order to fall asleep tonight.

Seriously hoping I'm a little smarter tomorrow morning. No guarantees though. ;)
I'm seldom at my best after only 3 1/2 hours sleep.

Woof!
Major sympathy like from here.
Hope tomorrow morning bodes much better for you. :)

this was debunked if I remember correctly.
That pink slime is actually for other things and not McDonalds's.
The Mcdonalds's mix is actually chicken colored (orangish-flesh color) and has chunks of shredded chicken.

Ohio State pretty much kicks you out of the dorms after your freshman year, so almost everyone lives off campus (which, in most cases, is right across the street). Campus now has lots of options for food, and you can use your meal plan at most restaurants, but that wasn't the case when I was there. We would buy some stuff at the grocery store, but it wasn't convenient to get there, and it was cheaper just to go to McDonald's. We definitely weren't worried about being healthy back then either. Honestly, as long as I was thin, I didn't really think about what I ate much. Just a different time I guess.
Dorms at my school are less than 10 years old. They built enough dorms that they guarantee housing for all freshman (not that all freshman use it...) and after that they guarantee housing to anyone who lived on campus the year before. There are some that move to apartments around the area, but most live on campus or live at home. Upperclassmen typically live in suites or apartments. The upside of getting an apartment is that they go on a lower meal plan, so they grocery shop and cook. Even ones who live in freshman dorms do at least some grocery shopping. The school even has shuttles on Saturday so that students who don't have cars can get there (though pretty much everyone has a car at my school...it's almost not an option unless you like being stuck there). And then those of us that live at home, of course, save money that way.

At the school where I'm taking Spanish, they have older dorms and while they don't "kick you out", most move to apartments in the area (and I know why; I've seen their dorms...no way). Still, they grocery shop and eat in a lot.

I think it might also just be the generation. I think all of us grew up in the beginnings of the health craze, so we're just wired a little differently. Personally, I have to be careful just because high cholesterol and diabetes run in my family, plus I cannot eat whatever I want and stay thin. Even in WDW, I have to alternate between eating fried food and not eating fried food, otherwise my system ends up so screwed up

Yup. Oral steroid, nebulizer medication, everything. Just all of the sudden went downhill. I knew I was probably getting this, but my doctor's been out of his office this week, so I've just been taking Sudafed to try to clear it. But then my asthma got bad fast and my doctor advised me to go on the antibiotic (he has us keep some in case this happens on vacation) since my ear hurts so badly and I can literally hear that there is fluid there, so I'll be in his office first thing tomorrow. For some reason this hit me really hard. My peak flow, a measurement of how I'm breathing, normally runs about 380-400. After my nebulizer, it was 180, my red zone. I don't even want to know what it was before my nebulizer treatment.
The flu and everything going around this year is hitting people really hard especially those with lung problems.

Not very happy with Hubby right now.
Since returning from Disney, he has dropped 25-30 lbs. without trying.
I, on the other hand, seem to have gained 10. Also without trying.

So much for my unwritten rule that he has to clock in at least 100 lbs. more than me - irrespective of what I weigh.

Doesn't it just drive you crazy that (most) guys can lose weight at the drop of a hat, while women struggle to drop pounds? :banghead:
