Same here. MANY younger students here have a FLASHCard (college debit card) that mommy and daddy have loaded up with money so they themselves don't have to pay for anything. I never had that option. The restaurant I worked in gave us one free meal per shift otherwise I ate a lot of ramen noodles, popcorn and kool-aid.

Guilty for both of my kids while in college. Though they both did have jobs on campus but they did not include any meals.

When I was a kid... my mother used to give me tomatoes in my lunch box when I went to school. She would also include little shakers of salt and I would eat them like an apple. That was back in the days when they didn't taste like plastic. They were flavorful and sooooo good. Now they have spent so much time trying to make them last longer and tough enough to handle shipping... the flavor has gone away.
Agree on that, nowadays.. Tomatoes have way too much wax.

That's why you have to get them from a fruit and veggie stand, or farmer's market. I grew up eating them out of my grandparent's garden, so I don't like store bought tomatoes either.

Yea, I hesitate to even call them tomatoes. What they are is round things that are red and are called tomatoes. What they actually are is any body's guess. While we are on that subject, is it just me, but, have cucumbers also gone the same plastic tasting route. I used to love cucumbers, now I can barely tolerate their flavor.

Yeah and most of them are picked green and ripened with gases. At one point I had about 3 dozen tomato plants in my yard now I am down to 11 plants. Got to hard at my age to keep up so many plants going. But fresh off the vine into my mouth, so freak'n good. :hungry::happy:

True story, without a word of exaggeration:

Two of the medications I take cause extreme dry mouth. Add to that, a stuffy nose, and central heating jacked up a few extra degrees ... and I ended up mouth-breathing for the past two nights.

This morning, my mouth was so dry that my tongue was literally stuck to the roof of my mouth. When the alarm woke me up at 6:30, did I think to take a swig of water first?
No, I did not. I just kind of wiggled my tongue around ... and ended up tearing most of the skin off the roof of my mouth.
Holy jumping it hurt. Still hurts! I'm going to have to put a bit of Oragel on it in order to fall asleep tonight.

Seriously hoping I'm a little smarter tomorrow morning. No guarantees though. ;)
I'm seldom at my best after only 3 1/2 hours sleep.

Grow them too. The longer they are refrigerated the more gross they taste.

I can eat them, but they aren't as good as from the garden either. I have a hard time buying any produce from the grocery store. Bananas and some other fruit are okay. A few veggies, but not many. I was spoiled growing up having a garden to eat out of.
