The Chit Chat Chit Chat Thread

My dad used to eat Spanish onion sandwiches - thick slices of my Baba's homemade bread slathered in butter, with sliced Spanish onions, and a little salt and pepper.
My mom despised onions, yet married him anyway.

To this day, I prefer the stench/smell of onions and garlic over B.O.

A firm I worked for years ago was right down the street from a grocery store with a decent little deli that made individual sandwiches upon order. For a period of time, I'd go there about twice a week and order braunschweiger with plenty of onions on a buttered Kaiser roll. :hungry:

I don't even know what a carnita is, nor do we have any Chipotles.
Heck, our only Taco Bell "made a run for the border" more than a year ago.

I'm thinking Mexican Tex/Mex must not be that popular here in the Great White North.

This traditional Mexican restaurant is a popular Glebe hangout in the summer, when the patio is usually packed with patrons sipping cool margaritas and enjoying fresh food from the south. In the winter, the colonial-style interior is also inviting.

Centrally located in Ottawa's ByWard Market, Blue Cactus is Ottawa’s favourite restaurant. Its a vibrant evening atmosphere in which to enjoy award-winning margaritas and Contemporary Southwest cuisine. Late night weekends enjoy DJs spinning a mix of soul, funk and house music

Carnitas (always with an s) is barbecued pork. Chipotle has taken them off their menus for a while at some locations because one of their suppliers was not meeting their standards. Actually, the fact that they have done this makes me feel even better about eating at Chipotle; they have their standards and make sure that their suppliers are upholding those standards.

Chipotle is extremely popular down here, especially among college kids. I can think of four locations within a 30 minute radius of me, with another one that they are building, wait for it...near my college.

See, this is why you can't trust the internet. :hilarious:
I live less than 5 minutes from where Mexi Casa Mama's USED to be. Four years ago.
Diectly across the street, used to be a place called Mexicali Rosa's - formerly Kelsey's, currently my favourite restaurant Gus & Guido's.
The Taco Bell come to think of it, was within two blocks of both of these places, at the corner of Dunsdon and King George Rd.
Apparently KGR is poison to Mexican eateries. Or it's just Brantford - the whitest, blandest town in Ontario.
(Very ethnic - but all European.)

I can't speak to the Ottawa locations (5+ hours away) as we haven't been since the Summer of 2011.

or you poor souls dont have a real Mexican restaurant.
claiming taco bell is anything remotely related to Mexico is an insult to any Mexican just fyi ;)

anyway, Carnitas is a dish of boiled or fried pork meat (usually fried on pork's grease) and served with tortillas or in tortas ahogadas.
They have this salty BBQ flavor.

But, if it's on the internet it has to be true!!! :hilarious: I kinda had a feeling that was the case!!

I didn't realize you were so far from Ottawa - I'm woefully lacking in my knowledge of Canadian geography!!! ;)

The distance from Brantford to Ottawa is: 552 km/342 miles.
Sadly, this includes the brutal Hwy. 401 stretch through Toronto, which is stop and go for at least an hour. More, if you get stuck in rush hour traffic. Even more, if there is an accident. Even more yet, if there is construction.
