The USA does not have a monopoly on freedom in America (as in America the continent). Or in the world.
See, this is something that struck me when I started living over here. When I was in elementary school, I remember learning that the reason the United States was such a great country, the BEST country even, was because we were the ONLY country to have all the freedoms we have. That in other countries, you don't have freedom of religion, or freedom of speech, or the right to choose what career you will have, etc. They made it sound like no where else in the world was free. Then I moved over here and started seeing that we have all the freedoms here that I had in the US (with the exception of gun ownership, which was a moot point for me as I want nothing to do with firearms myself.) and that there were even a few things here that were legal that were not allowed in the US. (same-sex unions for example, though that has since changed to an extent, but the fight is ongoing there, where it's not been an issue here even before I moved here.) I think most people actually believe they have more freedoms there than anyone else, and they don't even realize there are other countries that have those same things that "Americans" are so proud to have a monopoly on. I don't think they KNOW they don't have a monopoly on them. I sure didn't! And my best friend who now lives in Australia didn't, until she moved there.

I could care less about phones, so not "everyone" goes crazy over the latest phone. ;) By the way, heard on the early morning N.Y. Stock Exchange report that this newest iphone 7 might not reach target selling figures, because some think it doesn't have enough upgrades or whatever.
They said on the news here that even Apple Fans seemed underwhelmed by the new version, and that it's kind of a money grab because it doesn't have a place for a headphone, so you have to buy a special adapter so you can plug in the headphones in the port for the charger, and apple is coming out with headphones with that plug in, that you can ONLY get exclusively from them and they cost $200. (and just my 2 cents, it's not worth it...I don't know what kind of a battery life the iphone has, but I know with my samsung, if I'm using any kind of app or watching a movie, it drains the battery super fast, so I need to be able to plug in the charger AND use the headphones at the same time. So headphones that have to be plugged into the charger port wouldn't work for me. But I've never had an iphone, so maybe their batteries are better?)

I can't imagine life without a cat. Of course, I spoil her, but I've also got one of the nicest, most well-behaved cats ever. Some cats can have behavioral problems, and she has none. Uses her litterbox, won't go elsewhere. I can have her in my room and know if she needs out, she'll let me know rather than just deciding to go in my room.

She won't get up on the counter tops, so you can leave tuna out and know it will still be there. She won't go outside, so you don't have to watch for her as you're going in and out. If you give her enough toys, she leaves the furniture alone.

She'll play with us, but she won't attack anyone who comes to the house. At the same time, she's not fearful of people and will come out and be sociable. The last time my step grandfather was here before he died, he sat down on the couch. He wasn't doing well and was in a good bit of pain. She seemed to sense it and curled up next to him on the couch.

She also can sense when I'm sick or if my asthma is bad and will come and try to comfort. She doesn't care that I move around when I sleep; she just moves herself if I start.

Really, I spoil her, but I've got such a great cat that she deserves all the love.
You have a gem of a cat. I loved hubby's cat's at his parent's house. They were good too.

But @Gabe1 said the food has much improved now! That's good to know. I went there once, maybe 3-4 years ago to try it out. (I was the "hitchhiker" in the back of a family's car-- :p .) Thought the place was a hoot. I didn't get anything exotic--just a burger, etc., and for that, it was fine. Really enjoyed Sci Fi for the overall "ambiance" :D
I think I told this story before about my experience in the Sci Fi. I was on one of my solo trips, probably 2005 or so, I sat down and waited and waited and waited. Finally someone came around to take my order along with the order of the family of 5 sitting just in front of me. Again, we waited and waited and waited and eventually out came my lunch at the same time as my neighbors again. (should have caught on maybe). I had a cheeseburger and ice tea. Again waited half a lifetime for the check and when it did arrive it was for $140.00. It was a good cheeseburger, but, not that good. It turns out that the waitress had assumed that I was with the group in front and further assumed that I was paying for the whole thing. Why she did that is anyone guess. I wasn't even talking to them or looking their way. It took another half hour to get that straightened out. Needless to say, I haven't been back in there since then. I saw that loop of films so many times that I had memorized each one while waiting. I wonder if Disney has figured out yet that perhaps trying a little harder to get people in and out in a reasonable time, might increase revenue.

That's lovely. (My father, may God rest his soul, loved to grow roses. His favorites were the red ones. We had a number of rose bushes in the front and back yards of our house. He'd often cut some, and bring them inside to my mother. It's those sweet gestures that I miss, since they've both passed away.)
One of the most impressive things that I remember seeing when I first moved here in Cary, NC is that everywhere I looked along the streets, in the median and other places were rose bushes, mostly red roses. When combined with that huge amounts of blue, white and red flowering trees along side them, it is one pretty place to be. Secondary to that back in Vermont every spring there would be a fund raising drive that was done by selling Daffodils because we never saw any around there. Here they are used in field coverage at our interstate exits and entrances.

I can't ever imagine giving up our land line! (And we don't live in a rural area, either. ;) ) I have a little flipphone for emergencies only, and it was only at the insistence of hubby that I agreed to carry one in my purse. (Oh, no apps, no text, no pix . . and I only use it to call out. It's off if I don't need it for an important call. :D)
Excuse me, but are you by any chance still living in 1999? ;)

They tried to charge us for the dish that had to get sent back. We must have had the same server.

technically it does significantly have better specs.
making it resistant is a huge thing.
could make a dent on water resistant cameras.
also their cameras now have a RAW feature. So it will allow to get more details from photos.

I think it's down to the new phone not having a headphone socket that everyone is kicking off about. that and they said it took "courage" to take the decision to eliminate it
that happens all the time when apple does something bad to the customer.
the chills always say "its a new feature", "its better than ever"..etc..etc..
even when they just added something other phones had for years "magical and incredible NEW addition" lol.
anyway you bet they are going to start selling very overpriced bluetooth headphones.
