I understand how you feel. If I don't go to the gym for a while, I worry that if I do, people will be watching and judging. But you have to understand: most people are not watching you eat. Most people do not sit there and think, "Wow, she's so fat; she shouldn't be eating all that." And the ones who do are petty and pathetic and you shouldn't even worry about them. This is coming from someone who has struggled with her weight her entire life. It's not that I think I'm so special that people are watching me, but that people are disgusted by me. I'm overweight and I am always worried people are thinking "Good Lord, woman, why aren't you eating in PRIVATE where I don't have to watch you?". Just like nursing babies...people think it's something others just shouldn't have to watch, even though it's perfectly natural and healthy and the baby has to eat, just like anyone. There's this stigma attached to it. I have a very unhealthy relationship with food and it's just humiliating eating where people can see me.
Personally, I'm not at all disgusted by someone who is fat eating. I'd be judging a person with poor table manners before a heavy-set person who is just eating.
