Yes, maybe, but that is just wear and tear. There is nothing you are doing that will inherently damage things because of improper operation. When I lived in Vermont, I had two Air Conditioners in the entire house. In the warm weather they never shut off (the compressor, I mean) because the two just couldn't keep up, but, they did cool down the immediate area where they were. I never had a problem and I can think of nothing that would cause it to damage anything. If the temperature is lower then what you have set them for... the compressor will just shut off and only the fan will run. Why would you need to run it at 50 or below anyway. Seems like that would be time to turn on the heat.
