No, it will not happen as you say, so in the meantime, some are heavily burdened and have serious problems trying to make it work. They will do whatever then can to insure that they don't deprive their children of that opportunity, but, that doesn't stop it from being a stressful situation to be in.

Well, it happened exactly as I said for us.
Again, maybe those in charge need to vet the feasibility of it all before they lay it on the community. I Never said it was easy making it work...but, we did by working our collective butts off.
You can bet your beeeeehind we were stressed (not showing it to the kiddos), but we did what we felt we needed to do to make it all happen.
Again, if you're gonna' encourage, and sign your kiddos up for these things, be prepared for the upcoming onslaught. It's just the way it is. Get over it or get out.

Better than BabyBoomer woman. Until the middle 70's woman were not granted credit, or credit cards. College or not.

But things were different when you were in college. The laws changed the year my DD went off to college 2010. Gone were the days that young people enrolled in college could obtain credit cards. Sure you can still get them if you demonstrate financial independence plus a job history warranting credit and a credit history to support that. Other than that small demographic of college students you must have a co-signer as of 2010. Universities and alumni organisations now must disclose financial gains they receive from the financial institutions issuing credit cards to college students at their colleges.

Drinking at 21 unilaterally is a relatively new subjective measurement. When I was 19 I could drink and go to a bar, at 18 years I could go up into Wisconsin. Chicago has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and yet has the worst record for murders & shootings. Measurements often have little to do with reality.

Subjective measurements just get rammed through often without merit. And to a limited degree I agree with your generalization of we the people. Unfortunately the cost of changing laws is expensive and very time consuming. Most 18-21 year olds are easy targets, they have little access to funding and lobbyists needed, let alone the ability to retain an attorney to fight a long battle. Corporations are in a better position to withstand the years of legal challenges and appeals. We the people have a better shot at changing laws that include large demographics of age, sex, orientation & race than a demographic that covers a very small percentage, couple years and would age out of that demographic long before any laws could be altered.
Whoa, slow your roll and don't kill the messenger. I'm sorry someone pee'd in your Wheaties today but I was just pointing out to Cesar that you didn't need to be 25 to get a credit card, which I thought was what he meant. I didn't need the condescending history lesson but thanks anyway.

Again, I get all that.
I'm sure whoever hands out the invites to these things isn't contacting the kiddos and parents first.
Presumably, the principal and/or band director are contacted first, and they probably need to take a little more time to evaluate the community if they feel the financial situation could be a potential problem, before they spread that news all over the place. After all, isn't that part of their job...knowing a little about the communities they are a part of to better serve their students and families best interests?
I don't go on vacations I can't afford, or buy cars I can't afford.
If you can't afford this stuff, you can't afford it.
Opt out/decline the invitation if it's that much of a financial burden.

I agree. Sadly around here anyway it generally gets approved administratively, goes to department, department with all thrill and stuff announced to parents/kids, not necessarily in that order. By that point it is all over for the demographic that can't afford the days the trip will cost. And like I said before, some view it with strong peer pressure as negativity and lack of support to their children's accomplishments, how dare you attitudes toward parenting skills. I appreciate the spot some parents are put in. That guilt that you are negative and didn't plan years in advance for a march at Macy's or Disney World. My parents did not have all this when they were raising us. College was a big enough burden.

so I had to replace my windshield (again!!) Joys of highway and being behind trucks (I try to avoid them). They couldn't save my inspection sticker so I'm at a loss what to do. I called my mechanic where I got it done and he said they don't give out new ones. Who knew.

Did they give you the pieces? They should have. Those get turned in and with insurance and registration it is usually about $2 to get a new one. You generally get about 10 days or so but you are suppose to carry the remains until then as proof.

I was clarifying that the laws changed since you were in college and that it was far more difficult to obtain a credit card than when we were students in college. While your info was dead on accurate when we were young co-eds not so much for current college students. Just like I could buy liquior when I was a college student. Times change.

Nope!!! No time -- off and on this week while I had time on vacation, I cleaned out some boxes, etc. Hate going through papers, because that's all I do all day at work. But I forced myself to go through all of it. Ended up with 4 garbage bags of shredded documents when I was done. I love throwing out stuff !! :D

I had fallen so far behind in my laundry detail. I gave my truck to my DD again today as she had a meeting in one place and then managing at her second job at the WaterPark this afternoon and needed the A/C in a vehicle far more than I did once again. So I ran my one erron really early this morning after I figured out my partial power failure. I can say with a small sense of accomplishment I plowed through the clothes, blankets, towels and spring coats and have almost completely caught up on laundry detail all because I was was avoiding the hot humid weather. Upside, 90's even with humidity dried the hang dry clothes very quickly.

I honestly do not believe that. Thats why we moved her to our house.
She probably did this everytime she was alone at her home. (and she fell a few times there..)
problem is now.. a single fall would be fatal for her. x_x

I feel your pain. I'm dealing with a different but similar thing with my Mom since my Dad passed last month. She is now superwoman climbing, carrying, lugging and tree trimmer. Things she has not done in decades or never ever has done. Image: my Mother with Power Tools.

I know in my heart she is filling her time and as much as she gripped about my Dad it was her self designated role in life to wait upon Dad since she retired. She fueled his ways. At the present moment she doesn't know what to do with her time so she fills it with things that don't and should not be accomplished. She should not be in that house anymore. She should be in a condo like she had planned. I'm hoping and praying that this is just a short term frenzy and she doesn't hurt herself in the interim.

I had my foot xrayed, and the doctor thinks I have a heal spur. However, I also got a referral to a podiatrist, who I am seeing on Tuesday. I want to know one way, or another, exactly what I have. The doctor I saw today mentioned a cortisone shot. I will talk that over with the podiatrist when I see him on Tuesday. I have heard/read both positive, and negative about that treatment.

My trip is 38 days away.

I am sorry. Spurs really hurt and you don't have much time as it sometimes takes a few weeks for a good injection to produce relief. So glad they gave you a referral and you were able to get an appointment quickly as your Disney countdown is ticking. :D

You are certainly right about cortisone shots. Often they are only as good as the quality of the person injecting them and the technology that is used to locate the proper injection point. When computerized imaging is used the accuracy yield far better results, generally better results than when they simply inject where they eyeball and conclude the injection point. I've had good and bad. Sending you good karma.

Daughter did that on our last day. The rest of us, kids and son in law, slept in, and had a late breakfast. Hubby and I spent the day in Epcot. Son in law, took the kids to the magic kingdom.

Someday I'd like to try the 4 park challenge. It isn't rare for us to do two parks in a day, actually very common. On weird days with weather we will sometimes hit 3. A couple years ago we had the best day with rain hopping to three parks. We managed to hit some great attractions during downpours, come out to breaks in rain and repeat. All the stars aligned in our favor even though it rained from around 8am till 5pm.
We ended it with AK walking onto everything with zip wait and concluded our day at Flame with ribs. 4 parks is on my bucket list.

He became my special Rib slurping friend at Flame. I know you are not suppose to feed but you know when your choices are to feed or be attacked. I shared. He was grateful, as was I.

I did the four park challenge a few years back. It was actually an impulse decision. I started out in the Animal Kingdom, and bussed it to the Grand Floridian, so I could take the Monorail to the Magic Kingdom, just about the time the Afternoon Parade was running. After that I went to Epcot, and did a few attractions, and left by way of the International Gateway, taking the boat to DHS. I ended the night seeing Fantasmic.
