Can the weather just stop? it shows 95 here next weekend. Granted the weatherman can't even predict what tomorrow will bring but still, that's like the hottest its been here in a couple years.

Yeah, I see a 99 in our forecast. That is a tad too much heat for me. Still all I have to do is dwell on the snow and I will endure the heat.
You can just think of your stupid bridge with all the snow and that should help.

Agreed. Always a negative side to those that think negative. ;)
Many of the High School bands in our district have marched at Macy's and/or the Rose Parade over the years. Fundraisers.
When both of our DDs were in HS choir (that school has consistently been ranked near the middle of the top 100 High Scools in the nation over the years since before our kiddos all went to and graduated from there, and still is) we worked all those years at UT concessions to help raise the money for the year-end trips. The kids worked their behinds off right along with us aduIts. I don't remember any of those that volunteered rolling their eyes. Maybe, only the ones that didn't participate in the fundraising. You can roll your eyes, or get off your butt. 'Cause, you're right, the students are more than honored, as well they should be, and the parents, IMO, should be more than willing to help that dream come true for all their kiddos hard work. Why would you encourage them, supply the money to rent/buy musical instruments for them, pay for extra lessons etc., and then get all negative about a dream of their, granted, relatively short, lifetime coming true...?!?!?!?!
Seems to me, If your going to encourage and push them, a good parent should be prepared for the "consequences" that could likely follow. ;)

I'm not sure it isn't all about negativity. Some families just can't flat out afford the more elaborate trips. We saw this with our school's marching at Disney, it is wildly expensive for some and others not so much. While the good fortune to work the concessions in your area that really isn't the case in many areas where time devoted and hard work isn't how fundraising happens in so many areas to fund distant trips. So many fundraisers involve selling stuff people really don't want to purchase and feel obligated to buy. Can't tell you how many pizza's, pies, chocolates, cookies, entertainment books my kids were required to sell over the years. Cringe.

For our kids Club Swim team we had the option of a buyout. Whatever the genuine profit would be for the product sold we could write a check. We'd write the check rather than impose on other families to support and fund our children's activities but that didn't stop others from plopping down the fundraisers for us to fund for them. It really at times did get overwhelming between Chorus, Swim Team, Baseball and PTO fundraisers. Now add in most schools have Foundations in addition to PTO's and Booster Clubs. We really supported our kids and their dreams and goals but Ouch!!! It wasn't negativity on our part but a recession at the time a kid in college and another one coming up quickly. Not negativity but a firm grip on reality of 'x' amount of money and college tuition that had to be paid and we were in better shape than many.

I'm glad we are past all that.....

My grandma came over today. She needed help with my step grandpa's life insurance policy (mostly understanding the claims form) so my dad and I helped her out with that (I work for an insurance company). Anyway, somehow it came up that I'm not a mother. The following conversation ensured:

Dad: Well, hopefully, you won't be a mother for a while yet.
Me: Or ever.
Dad: What do ya mean? You don't want kids?

As a side note, my dad never wanted kids; my mom had other ideas.

Me: No.
Dad: Well, how am I supposed to get grandkids?

This was news to me as my dad has never mentioned wanting grandkids, ever.

Me: Um, you're not.
Dad: No, you’ll have kids someday.
Me: Where is this coming from? You never wanted kids
Dad: Yeah, but I can give the grandkids back to you.
Grandma: It’s payback for all of the years of raising you. But I didn’t know you had a boyfriend.
Me: I don’t.
Grandma: Well, I know this nice young man…
Me:

Oy.

There have been at least two accidents with fatalities in our area that were related to playing Pokemon Go.

I'm not playing Pokemon Go myself (I don't live in an area where playing is ideal), but I don't have a problem with people playing it responsibly. Hey, who I am to judge given the amount of time I've spent playing that Disney Magic Kingdoms game on my cell phone? The problem is the people playing irresponsibly, such as playing while driving or going places where they should not go to catch a Pokemon

It has been fun watching all these people over the last week out and about, phone in hand wandering around. The weather has been warm but nice enough. I'm am a regular walker so I have noticed just how many more people are out and moving around. I like seeing the kids and their parents out hunting together. Funnier to see those my age wandering around solo.

I've never enjoyed any type of gaming but this has me smiling watching all the people about trying to attain whatever it is they are trying to accomplish. I watched this once before when I had friends feeding their Farms which I could not wrap my brain around either. Still this one seems unique to me as it has people up and moving. It gives me and Walt something to observe and dodge.

Oh so sorry to hear that. It sounds like you should just plan a solo or friends trip without him. Then when you return you can rub in how much fun you had. If you go at Food and Wine or even Flower and Garden you can show him all the fun food and drinks he missed out on.

Maybe he wouldn't get into trouble but I can't guarantee about you and I! ;):hilarious::joyfull:

How hot is it going to be? We have been in the low 80's basically since I got back from Florida. It was a relief from the heat and humidity of Florida, although don't get me wrong I'd rather have heat and humidity than winter weather! I think it is supposed to get in the 90's here this coming week, which sounds about right since most of the county fairs are going on this week and all those animal barns will become sweatboxes (eek!). At last you can use the day to help prepare for your trip. Those calzone sandwiches sound interesting and may have just helped me decide what to make for lunch.

2am, that isn't for the faint hearted. If I plan on staying out that late I for sure need a nap midday.

It got above 90 and it was humid with quite a few seniors who are over 85 so better safe than sorry. The sandwiches came out really well according to the boys. Nothing like baking when it's in the 90s:confused:
My boys are doing rope drop until 2 no nap. That's check in day at the condo so my dh will move our gear, nap and meet up with us around 7 or so.

That should just read "No Pokemon"

Good morning. Working in a large medical institution, the management is always sending out all-employee emails (to thousands of employees) about the latest things we can or cannot do. Last week at work, there were TWO warnings about Pokemon--don't do it on the job!!! That's pretty bad when two warnings come out in one week--I've been there 14 years and never saw anything like that before. I can't believe they've caught some people playing that game while at work--idiots.

Just remind your dad that you have a brother, he can be the provider of grandkids someday.

Reminds me of that saying in the British monarchy ( @FutureCEO ) correct this if I haven't quoted exactly here. I believe the expression goes: "An heir and a spare . . ." (so as to guarantee at least one offspring, if there are two possible candidates for parents to continue on the royal family . . .) Try quoting that to your grandmother! :p

Go through these boards and there are plenty of couples where only one has the love of Disney.

Yes! That is my experience and that's why I go solo without hubby to WDW. I have a great time, and I never try to force the same vacation on him, if he doesn't like to go there. Different strokes for different folks.

@BuddyThomas , another idea is to do a sort of split-stay vacation. What if you guys went for say, 3 days, and then went to another location (let's say, the Florida Keys for example here) for another 3-4 days? Maybe that might work--best of both worlds for both of you? Just a thought . . .

I have a friend that has 3 St Bernard's. Actually ran into him walking all 3 at once today. They took turns saying Hi! to my DD and me. Can't believe he can handle all 3 at once. He is a very tall man but by no means muscular. He has them trained and they behave on a leash.
Walt was Walt. He looked the other way and pretended they did not exist.

:hilarious: :hilarious: (Jack would have done the same thing, and turned up his nose as if to say, "peasants" . . . :D )

I assume the loons playing this on work time are on their own devices and not any hospital-related devices. Still, it's a definite concern by management, as patient safety (in other words, paying attention to your JOB . . .) is paramount.
