My grandma came over today. She needed help with my step grandpa's life insurance policy (mostly understanding the claims form) so my dad and I helped her out with that (I work for an insurance company). Anyway, somehow it came up that I'm not a mother. The following conversation ensured:

Dad: Well, hopefully, you won't be a mother for a while yet.
Me: Or ever.
Dad: What do ya mean? You don't want kids?

As a side note, my dad never wanted kids; my mom had other ideas.

Me: No.
Dad: Well, how am I supposed to get grandkids?

This was news to me as my dad has never mentioned wanting grandkids, ever.

Me: Um, you're not.
Dad: No, you’ll have kids someday.
Me: Where is this coming from? You never wanted kids
Dad: Yeah, but I can give the grandkids back to you.
Grandma: It’s payback for all of the years of raising you. But I didn’t know you had a boyfriend.
Me: I don’t.
Grandma: Well, I know this nice young man…

Just remind your dad that you have a brother, he can be the provider of grandkids someday.

Agreed. Always a negative side to those that think negative. ;)
Many of the High School bands in our district have marched at Macy's and/or the Rose Parade over the years. Fundraisers.
When both of our DDs were in HS choir (that school has consistently been ranked near the middle of the top 100 High Scools in the nation over the years since before our kiddos all went to and graduated from there, and still is) we worked all those years at UT concessions to help raise the money for the year-end trips. The kids worked their behinds off right along with us aduIts. I don't remember any of those that volunteered rolling their eyes. Maybe, only the ones that didn't participate in the fundraising. You can roll your eyes, or get off your butt. 'Cause, you're right, the students are more than honored, as well they should be, and the parents, IMO, should be more than willing to help that dream come true for all their kiddos hard work. Why would you encourage them, supply the money to rent/buy musical instruments for them, pay for extra lessons etc., and then get all negative about a dream of their, granted, relatively short, lifetime coming true...?!?!?!?!
Seems to me, If your going to encourage and push them, a good parent should be prepared for the "consequences" that could likely follow. ;)
In a perfect world that is exactly how it would work. But, in a reality, at least here in NC, people are doing all they can to keep their heads above water. They tried fund raisers, but, there just wasn't enough time to pull it all together so the high school or whomever makes those decisions decided that it would be just less hassle to just have everyone pay their own way, for the most part. That put a major burden on the families. That is not to say that they aren't proud of their children for their achievements, but, that it came with a cost that they hadn't planned for or would have been able to just squeeze into their budgets. It is a real problem for many. What they have raised and continue to attempt to do will go to help supplement those families that just cannot raise it all, but, then the additional burden falls upon those that may be able to swing it, but, not without a great deal of sacrifice on their part. They are going to do it, one way of the other, but, that doesn't stop it from being a problem for them. I doubt that any of them really imagined that they would reach the level in high school that they would be chosen to go to the parade, so being prepared is a little more challenging.

People barely get the "dont text or phone while driving" warning... Can you imagine the pokemon one that is way more addicting?
to resume, most people are STUPID.
Its amazing how people can risk their life or of others.. for something as simple as a game.
There have been at least two accidents with fatalities in our area that were related to playing Pokemon Go.

I'm not playing Pokemon Go myself (I don't live in an area where playing is ideal), but I don't have a problem with people playing it responsibly. Hey, who I am to judge given the amount of time I've spent playing that Disney Magic Kingdoms game on my cell phone? The problem is the people playing irresponsibly, such as playing while driving or going places where they should not go to catch a Pokemon

I play Magic Kingdoms too, we were on vacation for a lot of the Incredibles even and I didn't play a lot so I just missed out on getting Mr. Incredible, I'm bummed but maybe there will be another chance in the future. I'm trying to get Minnie now.

Okay, things weren't always so rosy for us either. We drove from Kansas city. The car kept getting hotter and hotter as we climbed into the mountains. Two lane dirt road. Long story short, we stopped by a river, hubby opened the hood and the carberator caught fire. We poured water from the river on it. It was melted, had to walk to town about 5 miles to get a tow. Yup, we had our stories over the years. I still like camping. Hubby is currently looking at camp sights in The Rocky Mountain State Park. We may pitch a tent and camp one more time this summer. Then we will donate the tent and stuff.

Eek. No not so rosy at all. But I like the way you generally paint a positive outlook, you have a good and grounded outlook on life. I admire that.

And I read this post and I understand nostalgia but seriously! Pitch a tent in the mountains with your allergies? Now here is my revisionist plan for one last hurrah! Rent the site. Pitch the tent. Enjoy it all day long, hit a hotel at night and return to the campsite in the morning and do all the things you campers do but sleep on the ground and repeat. You'll enjoy the fun of camping without sleeping in the woods.

Place: Salatore's Pizzeria
Time: Just now

Me: So, if I was to book a trip, would you prefer food and wine, maybe the holidays,or would you want to wait for next year?

Phil - I would rather be water boarded than go back there!!!

And, scene.

Hmmm. I am sorry. :(

Time to take a cue as he appears to be digging his heels in. While you both have many things you love to do together obviously Disney is no longer one of those things. You are not alone. Go through these boards and there are plenty of couples where only one has the love of Disney. Where it is disappointing. While the overwhelming majority of our trips were family trips, I've travelled with my Mom and individually with each of my kids. I've also done 3 solo trips. Disney means so much to you and you have so much fun. Book the trip. If he is going to be miserable being at Disney you won't have the fun you need after all your life upheaval this year. Just book it and have the time of your life.

@songbird updated closing for MK midnight for all of your trip. The boys are going to love the until 2am EMH night! My dh not so much

My DS and I would send DD and Dad back to hotel, we'd keep on EMHing the night away.

I loved it when my DS was old enough to leave behind in the resort room and let him catch up to us by lunch time. He never was a morning person-still is not.

Tell that to my friend who does Saint Bernard rescues, he had 6 one time:eek::eek::eek:

I have a friend that has 3 St Bernard's. Actually ran into him walking all 3 at once today. They took turns saying Hi! to my DD and me. Can't believe he can handle all 3 at once. He is a very tall man but by no means muscular. He has them trained and they behave on a leash.
Walt was Walt. He looked the other way and pretended they did not exist.

Oh he eats enough for 5 dogs!!! That's his problem--he knows no boundaries at all when it comes to food! And he always maintains his weight and is in great physical shape. You'd think he'd be fat with the amount of food he chows down (not to mention the food he absconds with that is NOT his . . .)!!

Jack is just trying to communicate to you that he has a very high metabolism and is hungry. :)
