We've had a trace of snow so far this winter. Last year this time 13 inches on the ground with so much more by the new year. At this time last year we had 5 below zero days already with many more to follow. I hope we still keep bucking the trend of last year.

5 below is a little nippy, even for me. So I understand why you didn't enjoy that. But maybe you'll get lucky and you'll get some nice snow soon. It's warmer, you know, when it snows so keep that in mind.

Yep, we changed banks about 4 months ago. All free now.

BTW, what's a "check"...?! o_O

;) :)

A check is something you pay your bills with. Those of us who prefer to live in retro land, mail out our checks monthly, in the mail. :) We also like supporting the US Mail. I like the mailman that delivers on our street; he's friendly to people and likes my dog, even though my dog barks up a stink fit :p whenever he comes up on the porch to put the mail in the box. We always give him a little gift at Christmas, and he always sends us a nice card and includes Jack, our dog, in the message! ;)

And if you think I'm hopeless by still using paper checks and mailing them, you should have known my grandmother. She used to put 2 stamps on her envelopes, because she thought that the mailmen would notice how she cared enough to put 2 stamps on, and they would take very special care that her mail would go first, and arrive safely at it's destination! :p :joyfull:

And, I'm not done yet. :cautious: :D My grandmother's daughter (aka, my mother), didn't put double stamps on her mail; but would only mail her envelopes at the town center post office--because she was convinced that this particular group of mailmen there, were the only ones competent to deliver her mail safely.

I have no explanation for why 3 generations of women in my family are obsessed with the post office, but I guess we must have some odd DNA in our family tree?! o_O  :hilarious:

New Year's Resolutions, anyone?

Mine:
1) Live more healthy. Not just lose weight, but eat better, exercise more, stress less.
2) Read the entire Bible again. Luckily I have a copy which breaks it down into daily readings, a passage from each of: Old Testament, New Testament, and a Psalm or Proverb.
3) Finally retire the last of a huge accumulation of 5-year old debt.
4) Get my kids out of the house; be it off to school, or into their own apartment.
5) As soon as 2014 taxes are filed and paid, start hoarding $USD, in order to purchase our Florida condo.

My New Year's Resolution is not to make any resolution at all !!! :D

Many people are on vacation this week (I assume because it's also school vacation week for many children). This made commuting a dream today. Coming home tonight on the express bus, the highway portion only took 14 minutes, versus 45 on a regular weekday.

One thing I enjoy when I take the bus, is the ride through the suburban streets at night and seeing all the Christmas lights up on the houses. I particularly enjoy the houses with hideous light displays that look like a drunken person strung them up! :p I'll never understand how some of these people could think that their house looks gorgeous, with about 8 different kinds of lights thrown haphazardly from the roof to the ground, with no design pattern at all.

Hmpf. Not here. We had record cold and record snow last year. Kids missed so much school last year with wind chills below -20 degrees. It was a miserable winter last year. We didn't have a hot summer but I was fine with Spring for Summer considering we never had Spring and our leaves came out on the trees a month late. The upside was there wasn't any drought cause of all the snow.

Speaking of drought, Lake Micigan was down almost 2 feet for a couple of years, global warming and all. It cycled out and it is back to its proper level.
