Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Same here. Back when I had my first place I worked many sixteen hour days A LOT without a day off. Those first years my tree would be up and decorated for Christmas, dedecorated by mid-January then turned into a Valentine tree. :joyfull:

The year they had to replace my DH ACL the tree was still up at Valentines Day. My nice BIL was checking up on me and asked if he could do anything. I asked him if he could pull my huge tree down. I couldn't. I took the ornaments and some of the lights down, he did the rest. So thankful.

Up until 5 years ago there wasn't a spot that was not Christmas-fied in my home or outdoors. The kids loved it. Out of those 25 years I could tolerate it about 15 years, last 10 years it worked on my last nerve to have all that stuff everywhere. I no longer have flat spots in my home so most of the stuff I have packed doesn't have a place anymore and my tree and my monorail do not have a place to live during the season. The back of my property is lit up very pretty, the front is whimsical. Inside I have Christmas Pillows, a Wall art by dining table which has a simple Christmas pattern cloth, a small natural tree in the livingroom, that is all that will fit and a light changing glass tree on the entertainment center. The whole room pulls nicely together in a simple times theme. The days of Christmas on steroids has left the building here. Now my DD room, it is decked out. Both should be gone around New Years.

I'll have to go take a few pictures.

I love the bonfire area. I could chill there with a nice drink in my hand in the evening. Did you go biking today?

SHUFFLE BOARD! Now that brings back childhood memories of Florida Springs.
Yup. Went over to the shopping center, down to the park, over to the beach, on the beach, and back. We rent bikes for the length of stay and pretty much someone uses them every day.

Yesterday, my brother rode on my dad's bike on the beach...for the first time without training wheels. He scared himself several years ago and gave up learning. Now that he's two inches shorter than my dad, he could use my dad's bike, and since it was on sand, we could get him to ride and he knew that if he fell, it was on sand. He didn't fall though, and managed to master the skill while we were there. We could tell he was very proud of himself too.

Awe. I'm proud of him too!

I read the tweets. As an Evangelical Christian, I wasn't overly offended.

He was aiming to be provocative. He succeeded.
I didn't lose any sleep over it. Of course, that may have been the cough medicine.
You weren't offended because there was nothing to be offended about. He didn't once put down or compare it to Christmas day or the birth of Christ. It was a completely different topic. One had nothing to do with the other. It was just one group of people deciding that saying that Newton was important to our world and was born on Dec. 25 didn't mean that he was putting down the other famous Dec. 25th birthday. It didn't say that Newtons was more important or less important, he left that up to others to privately decide for themselves. It was an imagined slam with really no basis on it's own.

Even if it did, he had a right to express it or is that precious freedom of speech only for Christians?

And most Christians/people know that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th, anyway.
There were four tweets. Some were actually humorous.

I went into it more in Minnie reply post but it is odd to me to watch a man go off in a direction that he has deliberately not ventured into his whole career. To break character throughout Christmas Day and the venue to be twitter definitely a unique twist unto himself. It doesn't make me sad. It does make me wonder what bug was in his bonnet this particular Christmas morning.
It doesn't seem out of direction to me. In fact, it seems to be exactly in his wheelhouse. He is a scientist and the fact that Newton was born on that day had no message in it at all, that I could see. It wasn't meant as a put down of Christianity and someone has to have a very active imagination to even come up with that. It was a person celebrating the birthday of someone that was truly significant to how we function today. And it is the truth. Never once did he say that Christ didn't have an influence. He would have been an idiot to imply that, he would have known that the conscience influence on the "christian" world is huge. Since, however, Christianity is not a world majority, perhaps Newton did indeed affect all of us as a world population more.

EDIT: To put a finer point on it, if Walt Disney's Mother had given birth to him on December 25th instead of the 5th and someone said that he was a major influence on the world... would we be arguing about it or saying how "unchristian" it was?

Yep I see what you are saying. My point it is he took on a new position for him this Christmas on Twitter nonetheless.

It's in the 60s. Some of the lifeguards have shorts on, some have pants. Earlier today, my dad and I rode bikes over to the beach, and I had to take off my jacket because I was too warm. Now I have it on again, but for a while it was jeans and a short sleeve shirt.

When you're on the beach, you can tell who is from where. Locals are super bundled up on a day like today. Those from way up north are laying on the beach in bathing suits under a beach umbrella. Some are even in the water. It's rather funny to see people really bundled up and then people there as if it's summer on the same beach.

I hear that, my son says he sees it everyday. His body is still use to Northern winters. One year that we spent the kids entire Christmas Break at Disney both water parks were still open for Christmas. One closed fall one winter but one came out of rehab for the holidays and the other didn't close until after the holidays. We did both waterparks that year. The days were both in the low 70's but doable with a towel between waterslides. The guards were in their Under Armour thick jackets and pants, the ones with heavy windbreaker on the outside and fluff inside. Us in bathing suits.

Just finished watching Nanny McPhee Returns. I even put on my glasses for a moment.
I don't think I ever realized just how lovely Maggie Gyllenhaal is.

Now I must head out to my cousin's 50th birthday Open House. Later.

Christmas decorating doesn't have to be over the top. A few, nicely placed decorations are just as nice as a whole bunch of them scattered all over. All we need are just a few holiday items to remind us of this joyous season.

This story is the nicest post of the day. I'm happy for your brother.
