Good morning I'm up early as there's lots to do today, last 1/2 day for the boys. Tomorrow they'll only be in just long enough to count heads and pass out report cards. I'm having nightmares about the upcoming food bills. It's going to be a busy summer here as James aka my baby has signed up for swimming lessons (not sure why as he's part fish) and a science class. So between that just hanging at the pool and a summer reading competition no rest for me! Busy or not I LOVE SUMMER!!!!!!!!!! Heat, humidity and mid-day rain bring it on!

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Ha! That explains it! (To me, "power" refers to my electric bill, because each month the electric company refers to it as power. Confusing? Yes . . . they do that on purpose to distract you from the high prices! ;) )
We call our power/electric bill - "hydro".

Every month I get a gas bill, a water bill, and a hydro bill.
And a whole bunch of other bills I don't want to discuss.

Hey neighbor they are popular here where they are made in Louisiana of course too. We have access to all the flavors at all our grocery stores for the most part. They are all really good. If you have not tried them tbe Dill flavored ones are really good too if you can find those where yall are. :)

I'm originally from the New Orleans area. I grew up on the Westbank and moved to Mississippi in 2005. Until recently we were living in Picayune which was about an hour away from New Orleans. Unfortunately we just moved further east closer to Mobile.

I haven't had the Dill flavored. I guess I'll have to give them a try.

You guys are dealing with some serious water. I can imagine that must get to you after a while. It's almost like being stuck in a (water) prison. I'll bet you can't wait for the sun to come out and for the waters to subside.

And Mother Nature wants to remind us that she is in control as another mega storm rolls through Northern IL this morning and will shortly threaten the parade and rally at Soldier Field this morning.

That's the thing about renting that I like the most. Every month I pay my rent (no bill), Electricity (on line, no paper bill), phone (on line, no paper bill), cable & internet (on line, no paper bill), and whatever co-pays I might have along the lines of medical. And that's it other then my credit card (also on line). I've written exactly two checks out since November 2014.

Can someone explain to me why a town of 36,000 had 6 fire districts. Now we have 4. Why not have one: people don't want to lose power. My fire district just got voted to close. It was either that or increase taxes. Hopeful the stupid state doesn't step in to give the fire district money.

Which they did to another fire district which begs the question: why vote at all?

We only have one fire district but if we had the funds we really should have 2. It takes far too long for EMTs to reach the North End of town, too many obstetrical in the way. It will happen someday. A town close to us for the same reason had 3 fire districts about the same small size as us in population. They went down to 2 for financial reasons only. The property over the last 10 years went down in value so the amount of property tax governing bodies collect is substantially less, so we all have had hard choices. The daytime population though is large for both of our towns due to industry that must be serviced. Add in crashes on expressways and all the EMTs and Firefighters are kept very busy. And yes your fire commissioners will be scraping for seats when their positions are consolidated. I'd like to see our town represented by alderman vs trustees for better representation. It is hard to get movement on that because 3 of our trustees are in one Ward and two would loose their seats.
Being very involved in local politics for 20 years here I have seen too many decisions made for political reasons over logic and to keep their appointed or elected positions, not good but it is a real part of government.

As for your question of why vote I can shed a little light. When formulating an operating budget you can only responsibly budget on what funds you know are coming in. There are real expenses, insurance, utilities, pensions, salaries etc. If there are only enough funds on hand to operate 4 vs 6 now decisions have to be made when building that budget. Our fire department employees are union and the contracts require notice of eliminating their positions so that also plays into the votes of closing a facility, we have the same provisions in our teachers and public works departments. We have given our teachers notice that their position will be eliminated for many years for budget and staffing reasons. Sometimes we subsequently receive either Federal or State funding and we are able retain the staff but not known those funds were forthcoming when building the budget. Likely your fire district is acting fiscally responsible with funds on hand and is at the same time holding out hope that the decision can be reversed if additional funds are provided from the state or the feds. What they are doing is fiscally responsible unlike other areas of government that just borrow money or sell bonds to cover what they do not have the budget funds for, kicking the can on down the road. We always balance our budget but we do hear the wrath when any budget or program is cut in our schools. Can't have it both ways.

Hope that helps. :)

We do the same, except we have automatic withdrawals from our banking account. Hubby writes no more checks, can't remember when we have needed to order checks.
