It can, so very many more times than we want, be such a fine line to walk. But, yes, ya' can't take care of your family if ya' don't take care of yourself, at the same time.
And yes, I do realize, easier said than done, too much of the time.

Very well stated, and there's definitely two sides of the coin here. Both you and @seahawk7 have children, and the decisions you both have to make, must be beyond difficult at times. I had actually debated (to myself) last night, whether to write what I did about her 2nd job, as I certainly didn't want to seem insensitive to the tightrope she was walking. But, then I figured that she'd know that my spin on this was about my concern that she didn't burn out, from a 2nd job that produced so much anxiety.

After we were done shopping, we hopped on the monorail to Epcot, where we had parked in the a.m., which is what caused us to miss our first FP.

Tammy and I hopped in the SB line for SSE, while Mike took our purchases back to the car.
We were nowhere close to boarding by the time Mike got back, so we hopped out of line. Not once did we consider trying to let him butt - although we saw LOTS of that this week.

Headed over to the Seas. Rode lame Nemo, watched the manatees for a bit, then the fishies, then a photo with Bruce.

From there we went to the Land, said no thanks to 50 min SB on Soarin'.
Watched the slightly preachy Circle of Life film, and then rode Living with the Land.

Headed to WS, thought about getting some cronuts for brekkie. The problem is, I was still too full from our late lunch, do we skipped it. Come this morning though, and I was sad.

Toured all the shops in UK, before dropping another $150 in Japan. Did I mention that almost all my Christmas shopping is done?

Just about the only shop at WDW that I actually like is the Mitsukoshi store in the Japan pavillion. They have wonderful, different items in there. I usually pick up something each trip, even if just a pair of pretty chopsticks. Oh, and--POCKY!! (I like the strawberry ones especially.) :hungry:

Last year we made 26 trays for gifts and sold 31. (25 different varieties of goodies in each tray.) We guesstimated the two of us made around 150 dozen cookies, fudge, muffins, etc. Sold ones are by word of mouth to friends, family, work.

Growing up my dad always made and sold pies for different holidays for extra money.

WOW! Is this the greatest thing or what?! What a cool tradition your dad started by making and selling pies for the holidays for some extra cash. I love how you and your daughter are equally ambitious, following in his footsteps. This is wonderful. :)

I tend to spend a lot of time in Mitsukoshi. I have to see the anime, the pearl station, the sake bar. :angelic:

Are you having your purchases shipped to your house?

On my bucket list, is to one day pick a pearl in that store. I've watched the scene before, and it's really fun. (I'd just need to save up a bit more before I do that. I've heard the pearls are reasonably priced, but then they get you on the necklace settings.)

I thought you very nice and considerate in your response to me. I appreciated all the input everyone gave me. I felt very supported and you helped me see that I had other options. Sometimes the guilt a parent has in thinking they could "be there" more for their kids is overwhelming. Just tonight, my son called me at work to say goodnight and I felt such pangs of guilt like I should be there to tuck him in.

When you're the leader, you don't have to follow.
Two years ago, on the DIS, I found a link to some site (Google works too) that sells the Cinderella "pearl carriages". I bought four of them for less than $50 - shipping, taxes and exchange, included.
Then, I treated myself, Tammy, her daughter, and my 9 year old niece to the experience.

I can't speak for the two girls, but Tammy's and mine have held up perfectly.

They wouldn't mind. My kids are two of the most considerate people I know. I would mind. And the second job does not only fund our Disney trip but is extra income if I get census managed (not guaranteed hours if hospital census low), or if I need to make repairs on my condo. So the second income is needed. Now I could scrape by with the one job but then the worry might be too much. Plus I like to have my kids and me have WDW as something special. What my kids had to endure from their father, I won't get into here but they are wonderful, mature kids (not my words but from everyone who knows them) because they saw what bad behavior can do to others.

What a beautiful post.

Awe. Look at it as pangs of Love vs Guilt. :inlove: You're doing the right thing when a manchild at that age calls his Mom to say good-night. Cherish those little moments instead of slipping regrets into a loving moment, you both will be happier for it.
