Just a little north of you, our jocks were lucky to win a couple of games a year, pretty much every sport. I don't remember anybody mocked for being smart. You were more likely to be judged for clothing choices by a certain faction:cautious: and your car by another:cautious: We had a few too many snobs:cautious:
My High school years our team couldn't win if the other team failed to show up. The worst team then and now. So not much to cheer about. The teams still had smug looks in the yearbooks wearing their school colors jackets with their letters from sports. They were the most obnoxious group of people I knew and for no reason. Talk about your participation trophies.

At our 50th in 2016 it was satisfying that most of the jocks and overachievers didn't do all that well once they got out in the real world. But that was in Vermont where there was little opportunity to reach any high levels, so it applied to all of us.

My first year in High School (different location) was highlighted by the fact that two of the seniors made an appointment at a local new car dealer, went and killed the salesman with a tire iron, stole a car and went for a joy ride. Their excuse was that they were bored and wanted to ride in a new car. Hard to imagine just how tragically stupid that was. They were charged as adults so to my knowledge they are still locked away and not riding in any cars at all.

I liked Pete's dragon. It wasn't the best but it was cute. But I refused to watch the Lion King ones for fear my favorite Disney movie would get ruined.

Disney should not be remaking animated movies though.
Lion King never made sense to me. There's no humans in it. Why would they make a movie with CGI lions? At least with Jungle Book, Mowgli was obviously a real actor, and it was substantially different from the animated version.

I don’t think the movie looks perfect. It has its issues. BuzzFeed has some good articles on that. But as far as the live action remakes go this one looks really good.
It looks okay. I don't agree with some of the issues that others have complained about necessarily.

My big thing is I hope they don't try to shoot in Oahu and say "oh, that's Kaua'i." Logistically it makes sense to shoot on Oahu, but I'm like, yeah, I can very clearly tell that's Oahu, and so will a lot of other people. But then it also kind of changes the story because Stitch was looking to find a large city where he could cause chaos by reversing street signs and stealing everyone's left shoe...and Kaua'i has no large cities, but Oahu has Honolulu. Oahu also has a bigger population. So it changes the plot a good bit.

Kaua'i is unique because there's only one building taller than a palm tree, which is definitely not the case on Oahu. The only building taller than that is a Marriott. The plot can work on Oahu, but since it's so visually different, they should go that direction instead of trying to say "oh, we're actually on Kaua'i."

I was not invisible, lol. I was pretty well-known. Maybe freshman and sophomore year, not as much, but I started writing for the school paper and then was on the morning announcements (they were a live broadcast). So people knew me or knew of me, especially senior year when they saw my face. But it wasn't...I guess gossipy would be the right term. And it's an extremely diverse area, so everyone had their own thing going; no one cared if you were different.

Also, the cool kids were the smart ones. Everyone was extremely competitive. So that was a non issue. Ironically the drug addicts were in band.
When I graduated, the Valedictorian was caught selling weed to the Salutatorian the week before graduation. (I ended up graduating #2 in my class, but the salutatorian had been named the quarter before, and he had somehow magically passed me, barely, in that quarter and then I passed him back at the end. I actually think it was rigged, because I had been told by the counselor's secretary that there was no way he could pass me unless I really screwed up, which I didn't. There was a "computer glitch" at the end of the 2nd quarter that only affected my GPA and his, by switching them. That was the only thing the "glitch" did. And then in the 3rd quarter, when he passed me, I got a look at his report card. Our report cards were identical, except I had one more class than he did because he had FTA, which didn't count for a grade. I had 4 A+ and 3 A grades, he had 3 and 3. Somehow, my GPA went DOWN from the previous quarter...or, well, our report card showed two different scales. A 4.0 and a 5.0 scale. My 4.0 GPA went UP, but my 5.0 scale went DOWN, and the Salutatorian's both went up, even though I had one more A+. My mom went in to ask about my report card, and they discovered that HE had been given extra weight for his "advanced classes" of 3rd year Spanish, and Physics, and Calculus, and MY scores had NOT been weighted for 3rd year German, Physics, or Calculus. Given the "computer glitch" that only affected our two GPAs in the 2nd quarter, and then the advanced classes counting for him and not me, I think we can probably conclude that it was fixed to keep me from receiving the honor of being Salutatorian. The principal and the councelor both hated me, and my brother had been Salutatorian the year before and they tried to keep him from getting it by saying they should name everyone with a certain GPA a Salutatorian, and none of them would get to make a speech at graduation. My mom said absolutely not. He earned it, he gets to make the speech. And then the Valedictorian and Salutatorian from MY class went and asked if I could be named Co-Salutatorian with them, because they felt I worked hard and deserved to be recognized. The principal said absolutely not. So, I think it was basically just retaliation...they had worked so hard to keep me from getting the honor. They weren't going to let me be recognized. So instead, they both mentioned me in their speeches, which was really classy of them, I thought. But at least I was the one who got the scholarship, because that was awarded in the 2nd quarter, when I was still ahead.) I still have a newspaper clipping from the police blotter where the pot sale between the two of them was printed. I put it in my senior memory book.

Nothing can top Cinderella. That is legitimately the perfect remake. It wasn't trying to be the original, it expands on the storyline, and the casting was absolutely perfect. 11/10.
Agree, but I also think the Aladdin one was pretty good. I really love that one song that Jasmine sings about not being silent. Speechless? I thought that was really well done.

Yeah, I'm still kind of worried about what they'll do to him. Keep in mind that movie came out when I was 7, so really attached to him as a character. Also grew up with Lilo and Stitch the Series on Disney Channel and all the follow ups. My one friend is 32 and obsessed with Stitch to this day, lol. I send him pictures of Stitch merch in WDW.

Cinderella (live action) is my comfort movie now. I watch it if I'm feeling sick, sad, whatever. I turn it on and it makes me feel better. There's a reason my one cat is named Ella. It's more for that version of Cinderella than the original.
Aw, and here I thought you named your cat after my daughter because she's so amazing!

Our high school football team had like a 7 year losing streak. They were terrible. Our basketball team was decent for a while. I remember my freshman year, when I was a varsity cheerleader, there was a big upheaval. I don't remember the specifics of it, but I remember the starting 5 got in trouble for something, and the coach decided that as a result, those 5 were not going to start for a few games. So he gave the B string the starting positions and we started kicking tail. Those boys worked so well together because they were all good friends, and they were so driven....they worked so hard, and they just became superstars. We made it to state for the first time in years, and we would have won the championship, but there was a REALLY bad ref in the tie-breaker game. One of our guys had the ball and was standing there trying to pass the ball, feet planted, and some guy from the other team plowed into him like he was going to tackle him and they called the foul on OUR guy. Someone else shoved our guy so hard he almost hit the wall, and they didn't call that at all. Even the other team thought the calls were unfair. I'm guessing that happens a lot in sports though.

But in our school, the athletes were the cool kids, and I don't have an athletic bone in my whole body. I was poor, I was a nerd, and I was NOT an athlete...nothing could save my social status.

Yup, I like that one too. I think the only area where they messed up was casting Jafar.

I really like Speechless. It's a good power ballad. They also wrote another song for her in the stage musical version that I really like as well, but not as well as Speechless. I also love the Prince Ali scene.

My other gripe was that they didn't add back in Proud of Your Boy. That was one of the last songs Howard Ashman wrote, and they added it back to the stage version and didn't for the movie. That song is just very special so I don't get that one. Adam Jacobs, who originated the role of Aladdin, comes to Festival of the Arts and sings it; I gotta record him on one of my next trips.

I like Little Mermaid too. I don't think it needed to be remade and I prefer the original, but it was good. I liked some of the changes they made, like that she didn't come to land just because she fell in love; she came because that was the life she wanted. I also like how they changed Eric, like their relationship was deeper, and when Ursula had him under her spell, he still knew something wasn't right.

The only number I didn't like nearly as well is Under the Sea, which Daveed Diggs is fantastic, but but only having Sebastian and Ariel sing in it, it lost some of the full sound to having a chorus.

I mean, Lilo and Stitch I kind of get because some of the adults at the time were over how much Disney promoted it, especially with Stitch's Great Escape and the TP on the castle.

Moana...okay, it is a princess movie

Zootopia...what???

Incredibles...
animated the incredibles GIF by Disney Pixar
I haven't watched most of the live action things with animals, like Lady and the Tramp, which is one of my favorite animated movies...I refuse to watch the live action. Winnie the Pooh, Lion King, Paddington Bear, Jungle book...I haven't watched any of those live actions, and I don't plan to. I'm torn on watching the new Snow White and the Lilo and Stitch. I hate that they are just doing a bunch of live action stuff now instead of giving us new content. I don't want to encourage it.

There was also a smoking lounge and other kooky stuff.
My high school was built in the 60s and had an outdoor bridge which was meant for students to smoke. 🤣 Wild to think about.

I can't even tell you who the jocks were...it just was not a thing.

Most of us were at least in the highest level English and social studies classes. There was also an in between honors level. The bottom level, well, you were basically a social outcast if you had to be there. We had some wild dudes in my AP English class junior year and AP econ the following year. Longtime bestie's brother in law (her hubby is a twin) was in my AP English class. I asked him at their wedding if he remembered that class, and he got embarrassed and said yes. I laughed and said not to worry, I had fond memories of that class. Her hubby was in my freshman bio class, which is funny because I'm still in touch with three different people from that one class.

For me the biggest thing looking back was not knowing I was neurodivergent until becoming an adult. I went through bouts of depression that just don't happen now that I'm properly medicated. I think I may have had a better time knowing what I know now; there were enough good kids there, but I was too lost in my own mind at times. I think elementary school did the most damage honestly. Third grade girls are vicious. And being neurodivergent, a lot of times I just felt different and didn't know why. Fortunately I had a really strong friendship all the way through with a girl who looking back I think probably also has ADHD. Wonder if she's ever figured it out.

Christopher Robin was good because again, different story. Ewan McGregor alone is worth the watch. Paddington I haven't seen, but it has a rare almost perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes. Jungle Book is another one with a very high RT score, like 94%.

Snow White...I may lose my Disney adult license for this, but I don't care for the animated version all that much. I've obviously seen it, but it's not one I choose to sit down and watch. It's one I appreciate for artistic value more than enjoy honestly, and Snow White is my least favorite Disney princess. I own very little merch with her on it, and most of it is when she's grouped with other princesses.

Lilo and Stitch I probably will see simply to see how many places there I can go "oh, I've been there!" 🤣 Used to watch Hawaii Five-0 and the newer Magnum with my parents more for that reason too, lol. Hawaii Five-0 shot a lot of scenes at the Hilton Hawaiian, and so they'd be at a restaurant and I'd be like "oh, we sat over there last time!" or "oh, I've been in that pool!" 😂 One time they shot a scene at the Four Seasons next to Aulani (I think back when that hotel was a Marriott) and I pointed out to my parents that you could just barely see Aulani and it was the cove where I snorkel. I swear in the Lilo and Stitch trailer the scene right before the mountain shot, I've been in that neighborhood when we went exploring; the backdrop was super familiar.

I got through HS by the skin of my teeth except for Mechanical Drawing (A) and Bookkeeping (B+) and did the same thing to get my Associates Degree. Laugh if you must but at that time that was highly educated in Vermont. Yes, we had some major Colleges but most of the students in those were out of state and they never stayed in the state. That plus a number of Night Courses at the University of Vermont got me through life. My highest grade in College was Finance so theoretically I should be rich now, but I stayed in Vermont. (I met my wife in the evening division US History Class so we both stayed in Vermont). And that's history baby! Sorry, couldn't resist.

I was in a 3-hour-long morning vocational drafting class in my junior and senior years of high school, and was also a starting varsity soccer player both of those years.
Although I was pretty good, the soccer thing never payed off, so to speak, but the 42+ year career in architecture, due to the vocational drafting class, definitely did…!!! ;)

Got a weird story to tell. My mom was going to use her phone to take pictures of it but her phone (which was 100 percent charged) died out of nowhere. I went to the house to change hers and get mine. About 10 minutes later we came back in and the phone was 100 percent charged! So to recap my mom’s phone died out of nowhere and charged back to 100 percent in 10 minutes!
That happened to mine and they thought I just needed a new battery. They were wrong it did the same thing when the battery was brand new. I ended up having to replace my phone. It was an i-8 so it was probably time anyway. They weren't sure what was causing it, but some sensor had apparently sensed it's last and was just showing occasionally signs of living on. It didn't happen. It's now lying at rest in the box my new phone came in. I'm keeping it because there was a brand new $80.00 battery in it that will fit my new phone. I don't remember what it is listed as but I know that it is just a rebuilt i-8 by a different name which is now automatically being updated by Apple.
