So, I bought a winter fleece set of sheets that retailed for $79.99. They went on sale for around $27.99, and I had a coupon for $5.60 over that, bringing the final price (with tax) to $23.99. My question is how can a store price it around $80, but still make some sort of profit on the same item, reduced to $23.99?!

It's probably a loss leader, meaning they may lose money on product X so you come in and spend money on a, b, c, d, e..............................

Maybe? Markup on some items is ridiculous but I'm still going with loss leader knowing what flannel sheets usually cost
