So, I bought a winter fleece set of sheets that retailed for $79.99. They went on sale for around $27.99, and I had a coupon for $5.60 over that, bringing the final price (with tax) to $23.99. My question is how can a store price it around $80, but still make some sort of profit on the same item, reduced to $23.99?!
In retail it depends on the store itself. If they have a reputation of carrying high quality items, people believe that because it's more expensive they think it is higher quality. Years ago I managed at Ben Franklin variety store. In our soft goods line we carried a lot of women's clothing that sold with a 30% markup. About a half mile away a store that was considered high end was selling the same items, same tags, same manufacturer, same design for sometimes three times what we were, but people were convinced that the product was better at the "high end" store.

In other words if we bought something for $20.00 we sold it for $26.00. They sold it for around $78.00. Same item, different prestige. Purchased by people that wouldn't be caught dead in a low income, reasonably priced establishment. Now to answer your question beyond that, what you bought might have been a lost leader, but it more likely was something that was not selling and they wanted to get it gone and try and recoup what they had invested in it so the could buy something that would sell quickly. Merchandise turnover is a huge part of retail sales.

@Cesar R M , how are you doing? (I know you've had a few challenges since you moved, but hoping that things are settling down for you now.)
Settling in yes. Sadly no job still.
I think I broke the 300 requests already.
I noticed that a lot of jobs are either just permanent (aka no students, no foreigners) or just exclusive to citizens.
And yes, my last message was serious. I will need to check my bank. If things do not go well I will def have to return back home bankrupted.

Cesar, I was hoping that things would have turned out better. Fingers crossed that some Christmas miracle happens for you.

Having long legs is a Curse in the Theme Parks. My natural walking speed is speed walking for almost everyone else!
I'm only 5'. My friend who I go to Hersheypark with and I've gone to Busch Gardens with is over 6' tall. When I go to Hershey Park or Disney with my mom, she asks me why I'm walking so fast. I'm like, uh, normally this is me just keeping up. 😂 My friend says he has to slow down for me. 🙄

Your cat would disagree with that statement! 🐱 :p
So I did get the sheets on the bed. After she had to chase the sheets. Then she sulked at the end of the bed because I took away her sheet pile. Then she did her usual nightly smothering of me and moved up to sleeping next to me. And she's pretty much been on the bed ever since except for a few hours this morning and very briefly this evening to eat/use her litterbox.

Also, there needs to be a count down for New Years soon considering some people might buy stuff like roast beef from meat market for a Christmas meal and also get stuff like steak for New Years at the same Meat Market.
I know the Christmas is going to be at my parents house, but don't know yet the food will be.

I do know porterhouse steak take does need to be picked up from meat market for New Years. Here is a picture of a part of the meat market I go to:
