I went into the hurricane thread. Who knew a thread about a hurricane would be 14 pages and counting long. And probably 3/4ths of them are not even in Florida.

I think why there are a number of forum members (who reside outside of Florida), but participate in that thread, may be due to their concern for their family or friends living in FL.

Plus, there's probably quite a few members who had plans to travel to WDW this week, and perhaps follow that thread for weather updates, etc. Although there are very good weather stations, etc., that people can reference, it's also helpful for people to read additional details from the members currently in FL now.

Wishing all forum members in the path of the hurricane remain safe, and that the storm lessens considerably, by the time it arrives over land.

Only got up to 98 degrees today, and won’t get to triple digits again tomorrow either…but, beginning Thursday, we’re back up into the triple digits again for the next 8 days…although, not nearly as deliciously toasty as the last coupla’ months…!!!!! :D:hilarious:;)

Reminds me of the small airport and runway at John Wayne in CA. Took a propeller plane American Airlines to LAX then flew the red - eye on a big jet 757 to the East Coast. Scariest take off in my life. Very short runway then the pilot basically flew almost vertical when taking off. I was told the rich folks that live in the area don't want to hear too much of the noise of the planes. The 16 seat plane , no bathroom, had the pilots right in front of us where you can reach out and touch them if you want to , the vibration from the engines vibrated into your seat. It makes the Rock N Roller coaster at DHS seem like a magic carpet ride.

Back in the day, our old Robert Mueller Airport, here in Austin, was located directly east of I-35, and not far north of downtown. I can’t even count the times a plane looked like it was gonna’ land on top of us driving up or down the interstate.
Always full throttle on takeoff, and immediate reverse thrust as soon as the main gear hit the runway upon landing. That airport closed in ‘99.
Our new(er) airport, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA - built on the site of our former Bergstrom Air Force Base), has no such issues, as it’s southeast of the city, with tons of space.
We flew in and out of the old Stapleton Airport in Denver a couple of times during the 80’s, and, boy howdy, did they ever do some long takeoff roles before they rotated, because of the thinner air at that altitude…!!!!! :hilarious:

As far as smaller aircraft go, I’ve flown over Austin in a 2-seat helicopter (yes, just me and the pilot), and I’ve posted about my 2 gyroplane flights here several times.
But, another small plane flight stands out for me, also.
Back in the mid 80’s, myself, a few coworkers, and a few builders took a complimentary trip to the Marvin Window factory in Warroad, MN.
We flew to Minneapolis commercial, and then took a 10-seat Marvin company plane to the town of Warroad.
On the way back, I snagged the copilot seat (a builder had it on the way up).
At one point, I noticed the oil pressure gauge bouncing around.
Didn’t say anything for quite a while, ‘cause everything seemed fine.
Finally, I asked (hell, it’s not like I’m in my car on the ground) and he said the gauge just needed to be replaced…!!!!! :hilarious:
Anyway, the copilot seat was so cool.
On our approach back to Minneapolis, the pilot said a perfect landing was when the stall alarm went off just as the main gear touched the runway, and that’s exactly how the smartass did it…!!!!! :hilarious:
