Matthew is out of surgery. It went well. Plates and screws on the inside, but, none on the outside, so no secondary surgery.
If the pain can be managed, they’ll send him home later today. If not, he won’t come home ‘til tomorrow.
Thanks for all of your well-wishes and concern…!!! :)
YEA!!! His surgery was successful. 🥰

Hopefully, he can come home later today, but if not until tomorrow -- then I hope the hospital staff give him more of that delicious pizza for dinner tonight!

Thank you for letting us know how he made out.

P.S.: The experience he shared about (a hand supporting his head, so he wouldn't hit his head in the accident), was quite something indeed.

6 days until Mother's Day View attachment 715139
The Porterhouse steaks for the Mother's Day meal are already bought. My parents last week bought it from the meat market they like going to.
Shattering that bad to need plates and screws.. yeah.. thats one big fear of mine. Since some of my bones are pretty much glass.
I can tell you that premedication are needed when going to the dentist after plates or rods are added in body. I am saying that because when I fractured my left hip, A metal rod was inserted. I had to take premeds every time I went to the dentist as a result of the rod. What I can tell you is my body was never 100 percent the way it was before the injury.

As bad as my left hip injury sounded, it could've been even worse. My injury happened around the curb by the High school I went. The school staff at the school wanted me to put pressure on the leg and walk, but I refused to. I found out later when I was in the hospital that If I did what the staff wanted, my injury would've been even worse.

Carolyn stayed with him last night and today.
They’re not discharging him until tomorrow, so she’s staying with him again tonight.
She said they only got about 3 hours of sleep last night. I went to visit after work, and he had just gotten a nerve blocker. He was out like a light 10 minutes after I got there.
Hopefully, they both sleep well tonight.

I asked Carolyn to get a pic of whatever his dinner was tonight (turns out it was spaghetti and meatballs - I see a theme here…!!!!! :hilarious:), but, she said he devoured it so fast (he hadn’t had anything to eat since the pizza last night) she never got a chance…!!!!! :hilarious:

As far as that last part goes…
I told him his Guardian Angel was his great grandmother (my Pop’s mother), and he agreed.
That dear woman prayed for him several times a day before he was born, during his NICU stay, and beyond.
Fortunately, she lived long enough (she passed 2 weeks shy of her 96th birthday) for him to know and love her…!!!!! :inlove::happy:

Hoping they both got enough sleep last night. I realize your son's accident takes an emotional toll on the entire family, so best wishes to all.

It will be great when they discharge him today to go home. Even though he'll have a recovery ahead of him, just being home in familiar surroundings with family, will help all around. Plus, he's still young enough to heal in due course, from his ankle injuries.

I didn't remember any student did a killing at the high school I went, but there was a student that attempted arson instead when I was Junior in High school back in the 90s. It made the local news at night. I heard at the time that the student used a lighter and set something on fire.

Everyone in the school had to leave the building including me being carried out. I was carried out because I was still recovering from my fractured hip at the time. I had to use a cane, and the teacher thought it was quicker for me to get out of the building by me getting carried. I can't recall the amount of time the entire school had to be outside.

What I recalled was when the fire alarm went off, I was in class on the 3rd floor and there was no smoke on that floor, 2nd, and 1st floor according to memory.

I recalled somehow the student that did the crime was not kicked out of the school at all based on 2nd hand information I heard at the time.
That must have been scary.
I read just a year or two ago that the school where I did my student teaching had had to be evacuated because a student had planned to shoot fellow students and had shown the gun he brought to a friend. The friend was super brave and told a teacher and they were able to get the gun before anything happened, but it must have been terrifying for those kids to be evacuated. This was in a junior high, so the oldest kids were only 14. I'd forgotten that incident until just now. And just a couple of weeks ago, they had a delayed start at the high school where my brother lives because of a threat... A student apparently threatened that he was going to shoot people this day, but they did a search and didn't find a gun or anything. They said it may have been a hoax.

Well, Matthew fell off the top of a Gaylord at work, that he was adjusting items at the top of in a truck, and totally destroyed his left ankle. Multiple breaks/fractures. He ended up on his back in the truck and says he couldn’t move. He was by himself, and it took him a few minutes of calling out before a coworker finally heard him, then they called 911.
They reset it as best they could for now, but, he’ll need surgery tomorrow. He’s pretty drugged up right now, so not feelin’ any major pain.
Not sure how he’s gonna’ handle all this, as it looks like it’s gonna’ be a lengthy recovery.

Oh no! Poor guy! I have no idea what a Gaylord is so I will have to look that up, but I hope by now he's a bit better!

Oh thank goodness it went well! Here's hoping they can manage the pain so he can go home!
