Well, Matthew fell off the top of a Gaylord at work, that he was adjusting items at the top of in a truck, and totally destroyed his left ankle. Multiple breaks/fractures. He ended up on his back in the truck and says he couldn’t move. He was by himself, and it took him a few minutes of calling out before a coworker finally heard him, then they called 911.
They reset it as best they could for now, but, he’ll need surgery tomorrow. He’s pretty drugged up right now, so not feelin’ any major pain.
Not sure how he’s gonna’ handle all this, as it looks like it’s gonna’ be a lengthy recovery.

I understand how injuries are for recovery. I know when I fractured my hip. I couldn't sit up to eat in the hospital without pain before surgery. It took me a while to recovery. I had multiple months of therapy.

I Hope the surgery goes well tomorrow and good luck for recovery.

OMG . . . I just read this now. :( (In addition to the injuries, I'm sorry to hear he was alone for a few minutes, before aid came to him.)

His ankle injuries sound bad, and my heart goes out to him. (Glad to see him having some dinner last night though, so the doctor must have given him medication to ease his pain.)

Best wishes to him for a successful surgery this morning.

P.S.: I'm unfamiliar with a "Gaylord" so I looked it up. (Various definitions online, so not exactly sure what machine he fell from.)

@ImperfectPixie -- just an fyi, a recall of some packaged greens here in MA (some sold at S&S and other places) --

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up! I've been buying the Nature's Promise spring/baby spinach mix lately, but it's not on the list. WHEW!

Thanks, Minnie.
In this case a Gaylord is an industrial/commercial storage unit/crate. They’re about 6’X6’, and can be stacked.
At the time, there were only 2 stacked in the truck and he was at the top adjusting some items. There was nothing else or nobody else in the truck. They have been short-staffed since Covid, and still are.
Here’s the interesting part…
He says that he started falling backwards, but, then he felt “someone touch the back of my head” so he stayed upright and took the brunt of the fall on his left foot instead of falling on his head and back.
I can’t even come close to stressing how unusual something like this is coming out of his mouth. It was after the meds had worn off that he revealed this.
I didn’t bring it up last night because I was unsure of his state at the time. Chills…….
