Now for some food and stuff from Palo…
For apps, Carolyn had the heirloom tomato soup, and I had the seafood antipasti.
For mains we had the crusted chicken parm, veal saltimbocca, and lasagna. The lasagna was the best we’ve ever had in our lives, as was also echoed by the folks at the table next to us.
Forgive me, as I was a bit delirious at this point 🤪 :hilarious:, but, dessert for Carolyn was some sort of cake on biscotti, and mine was an amaretto chocolate thing that was so good I almost passed out…!!!!! :hilarious:
My amazing Bloody Mary pictured, as well. All was excellent…!!!!! :joyfull:
Your meals looked amazing! :hungry: Glad you both had a wonderful anniversary celebration at Palo.

What also caught my eye was the interior design of Palo -- gorgeous, from floor to ceiling!

Mom went to see avatar and said it was way more violent than the first, is that right? She disliked it because of that o_O

Bless her.. she's getting old and fixated on religion x_x
I wouldn't say it's MORE violent...the first one was pretty violent already, but I think it comes across a bit more intesnely because we already know what happened in the first and so you kind of what's coming. There IS a disturbing scene with an aquatic creature. I think the biggest issue is simply that it's kind of realistic in its depiction of colonization of indigenous cultures and the greed of the colonizers. It was really graphic, and of course film has come a long way and technology has improved, so the imagery is more advanced. I don't think there's more of it, just it's more realistically done, so it just seems more intense.

Cool as a cucumber on a small dose of meds. (It was a little louder than expected here.)

I read that playing classical music can help. There was an article here about a dog that literally died from firework-caused stress, and there was a vet who said that playing classical music for your pups actually de-stresses them. So you might try that?

Hope you all had a great evening! We stayed home. We did go outside to light a few fountains and sparklers at midnight and shake hands with the neighbors, but we went inside pretty quickly. Our neighbors have a history of not being very safe with fireworks and sure enough, I went to light a fountain and I was bent over to light it and as soon is it was lit, I stood up to get to a safe distance and the neighbors were lighting firecrackers in their hands and tossing them. The one didn't look where she was tossing them and as I stood up, I saw the lit firecracker go whizzing past my head, missing me by just a few inches. I'm sorry, but you don't throw a lit firework into the area where someone is positioned. Had I still been bent down to light the fountain, it would have landed right by me and could have exploded in my face. The fact that it went past my head just as I stood up means that if it had actually hit me, I wouldn't have been able to avoid at least getting burned, and that's if it didn't hit me and explode as it bounced off. We decided to skip lighting the rest of what we had and just pack it up and go inside where we wouldn't be in the line of fire. One year, one of their bottle rockets hit E in the leg and she had a huge bruise and she was lucky she wasn't seriously burned. And when E was just 2 or 3, they tried to hand her a roman candle thing to light and hold in her hand. I wouldn't let her take it and we went back inside. And they had a whole group of cousins there who were about 8-10 years old at the time, and they were shooting bottle rockets and roman candles at each other. It's amazing that none of them ever ended up in the hospital.

E and I watched Strange World last night. I really liked it, but I think I understand the controversy. I think it could be considered political commentary. I don't even dare really commenting here on what I liked about it because I think it would be considered political and I don't want to get in trouble. But right from the beginning, I was impressed by how certain things were handled. But others would hate it for the reasons I liked it.

Anyone else watch any of the N.Y. Eve shows on TV? (While in and out of sleep last night, I scanned through 4 shows.)

One was a concert from Nashville, but I don't follow country music. However, I did happen to tune in, right when Luke Bryan was performing. I watched him, because I really like his personality (I've seen him as a judge on American Idol).

Then, I briefly saw a few scenes from the Miley Cyrus & Dolly Parton special.

Mostly, I split viewing between the ABC Times Square special (Ryan Seacrest), and CNN's N.Y. Eve special, Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper.

The ABC special was a bit frenetic, but I did enjoy some of the talent including singer/songwriter Jax (I was unfamiliar with her until last night), and also some other singers. My favorite performance of the night was Duran Duran.

Lastly, I had many laughs watching Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper host their Times Square show. Glad CNN told them no booze while on air, and I found those guys just as funny while sober (last year, they drank too much). They had some fun guests, including comedian, Kevin Hart (who joined them on air from Las Vegas). He was hilarious! :p
