OK, I’ve got some news and have been given permission to share…
A few years ago, Megan expressed to me her desire to write a children’s book. She also asked if I might be interested in illustrating it (more on that in a bit).
Anyway, it kinda’ got put on the back burner for a while, but, she recently started working on it again.
She called us tonight and said that she had finished a manuscript for the book, and had sent it to an editor. She received a nice rejection letter from that particular editor, saying that she liked the book, but, it wasn’t her genre.
Shortly after that, Megan threw caution to the wind, and sent it to 5 heavy hitters in the business, and has received offers from 4 of them (has yet to hear back from the 5th).
Now, here comes the crazy part…
One of the very interested editors is the former chief editor for Scholastic Books, and has edited all of the Hunger Games books…!!!!!!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Still many more steps to go, but, she has her foot in the door.
As far as me illustrating goes, I told her that if things progressed to that point, I would do some initial sketches to see if they might be up to par. That would be awesome to be able to do. But, I’m my own worst critic, and, ultimately, hiring a professional would probably be for the best in that regard. A great children’s book would deserve great illustrations, and I’m not a professional in that regard.
Anyway, below are parts of the email Megan received from that particular editor…!!! :)

This is exciting news. Megan is obviously talented, and she will reach her goal -- not to mention, it really helps that she has such a supportive family! (And, as the book moves along to green light status, think of the fun you both will have, collaborating on ideas for illustrations, etc.)

Best of luck all around, and fingers crossed!!

At least you didn't ask any family member from my family with that. Can't really help. The peak of the luck was in the 80s and 90s although mom was a 1 number away from winning Supercash grand prize of $350,000 back in 2020.

Back in the 80s and 90s, we won drawings of prizes multiple times including a Walt Disney world trip.
As a kid, I was pretty lucky and won a lot of small insignificant things in drawings done during magazine drives in school. I also won a Bicycle at a kids day open house at a local Air Force Base. Top prize for a admission ticket number drawing with over 10,000 other kids in the mix. That disappeared along with my childhood. The closest I ever got after that was in a corporate outing golf tournament where I came in dead last and won a baseball and bat and advised to take up another sport.

In my defense, I had only played golf (very badly) once before with borrowed clubs and had bought the set I used at the tournament at a roadside yard sale for $25.00. A complete set of Wilsons and semi-rotted golf club bag. All of it was at least 40 years old when I bought them. The saddest part of that whole story is that was in 1978 and I have improved only slightly since then in spite of more modern equipment. I can still be a last place contender with very little effort.,

Speaking of which can anyone explain how someone can buy $24.00 worth of Mega Lottery tickets (that's 48 possible numbers) then only match one number and that was a 13? Asking for a friend.

Don't have the answer to your last question, so I can't be of help there to your friend. ;)

But your topic of winning things, reminded me of something. I don't play the lottery here, but one day I bought a scratch ticket for $1.00. Lo and behold, I scratched off the boxes, and I won . . . $1.00. So the clerk at the counter asked me if I wanted to exchange the ticket for another (free, $1.00) scratch ticket, and I said no -- I'd like the $1.00 big winnings, please. :hilarious:

In 1997, one inner city kid 11 year old Hebert Tarvin in poor Overtown , Miami returned 85 cents he found when the Brinks truck overturned on an overpass I-95 /395 near downtown to his school teacher. The money truck overturned and landed down below the overpass in one of the most dangerous areas in Miami near downtown during the day. A number of residents and commuters on I-95 came out and picked up as much money and coins that were spilled from the truck and flying through the air. When WDW, found out, the kid, his family and his 6th grade class were flown to Orlando and treated to a free WDW vacation. For Herbert that was probably like winning the lottery. He was grand marshall at the MK parade.
