How did you do with the hurricane?
@93boomer , that was my concern too -- if your hubs would be called out for electrical work. (I saw an interview yesterday from Florida, and the official said that something like 27 states are lined up to send in crews down there. Some were staged in locations ahead of the storm, while others will arrive after the hurricane departs.) So I assumed at some point, he would be called up to either service your area, (if needed, depending upon the storm track) or be sent South to assist.
I know Superior, WI did reach the lows 30s at night also. That city is near Minnesota. We hit 38 night before last. Come to the cool!
Oh...no, THEY didn't say anything about hotmail, that was just my desperate thinking because they didn't tell us WHERE to go to log in to the new email. They literally just said "Your account has been made! Here is your work email address!" with zero instructions on where to go to get into it. They didn't even tell us we were going to GET new email addresses at work. It was completely out of the blue..."here's your new email address. You'll need to change the password when you log in. Here's how to do that." but no directions as to how to log in. Not knowing where to go, I reasoned that for my hotmail account, I had to go to hotmail.com and it would come up with a login screen, so maybe if I went to the company site, it might have an email login. It did not.Your IT department seems impressively inept and lazy.
The part where you mention that they sent THE PASSWORD of the EMAIL THAT YOURE LOCKED OUT.. TO THE LOCKED EMAIL is facepalming.
Anyway, their way of wording is also idiotic.
When they said outlook/hotmail email and intranet, means you were added to an enterprise/business style account in Hotmail.
They are sort of separate from the standard outlook/hotmail addresses.
Depending on security levels, you might even have a specified url redirect portal for you to login (which should be supplied by your company).
But in general, it works very similar to gsuite, all access via the default gmail address account.
In this case, a hotmail/outlook account, which gives you access to the Office 365 style hotmail/outlook service.
As for the IT Department.. you had mentioned changes. I suspect the local IT department got fired/laid off and they are now using an external overworked service that pays very little.
These kind of "support services for companies" are poping up everywhere now in job sites.. and the pay is very low with very silly "you must resolve 1 problem every 3 minutes" demands.
It's 49 here this morning!I know Superior, WI did reach the lows 30s at night also. That city is near Minnesota.
Where I live in Southeastern Wisconsin though, It it was in the low 40s last night. The weather at night from tonight to next week Wednesday is going to be in the 40s to mid 50s at night, but in the 60s during the day in that time frame.
About the same here Way too cold to ne a drowned FiggyIt's 49 here this morning!
I don't think you want to work for my company. Our company is doing well, but I can't say it's the best place to work. I've been seriously thinking about looking for something new, but I don't think I'd find another position with the hours and flexibility I have now. I have a zero hour contract which means I get to put in whatever hours I have available, and they pick which of those hours they want me to work. I have seniority now....there are VERY few people who have worked there longer than I have. Pretty much whatever hours I say I'm available for, they will schedule me. So I have regular hours without the obligation to ask for time off. I want to go on vacation, I can just put in that I'm not available from this date to that date and they can't schedule me. If I say I can't work at these times, they can't schedule me. If one of the kids' schools sends out an email that parent teacher conferences have been moved to this date for whatever reason, I can just say I can't work that day. And unless the schedule has already been posted, I don't have to find anyone to cover me. So I really like that flexibility, but most places don't work like that. I COULD choose to take set hours and then I'd have things like sick leave and whatnot, but if I do that, I have to ask for time off any time I have a meeting or go on vacation. And they are only required to give you 2 consecutive weeks of vacation, and not necessarily at the time you ask for it....they can refuse it and tell you you have to go at another time. And I think you can only request time off 10 times in a year....if you request 2 weeks of vacation and they deny it, you only have 9 more requests....when you think about doctors appointments, school meetings with teachers, vacations, all those little things you need a day for here, and an hour there, it adds up. If you run out of requests, you just can't take any more time off in the year. And most places, even at a zero hour contract, you have to set your availability when you start and that's it....you can't change it weekly or daily. You have to be available at that time all the time. There's no flexibility, because usually they only call you when one of their regulars gets sick, which means you also have no guarantee of hours. You might only work once a month. With my job, I have pretty much as many hours as I want. So I feel kind of stuck....I'm not really happy there, but I won't find anything else that meets my needs. But I can't recommend my workplace to anyone else. It's probably not much better than where you are now.Should I send my IT resume to your company? XD
Then it seems like their IT "thinks" that you have been debriefed or been working for a long time.Oh...no, THEY didn't say anything about hotmail, that was just my desperate thinking because they didn't tell us WHERE to go to log in to the new email. And technically, this was the IT for the bigger company that took us over. They already had the IT department there and they've been converting all of our systems over to theirs. But these were their existing techs, not ours. I'm not sure what happened to ours actually. When they announced the takeover, they said almost everyone was going to keep their jobs. Only the top management was going to have to find something new. But there were a lot of people who ended up quitting because everything is changing. Like, our primary job used to be to compile the orders. People order stuff and we go get it and put it in the box and then send it out. We don't do that at all now. All our merchandise is being moved to the bigger company where everything is automated, and they moved their processing to us. So now our primary function is to fold clothes and put them into crates that get sent back to the bigger company. And that also required that our systems be set up like theirs. All the programs we used to use have been transferred over to the ones they use. I assume our IT helped with that, but it's possible that they've all moved on now that it's been transferred...or maybe they just had to learn how to use the new programs so we have IT people at our location. The bigger company is pretty much on the other side of the country, which for the Netherlands isn't that far, but still, if you need an IT person to work on the system, it helps if that person isn't 2 hours away. But I only work evenings and IT is only there during the day, so I never saw IT people anyway. I have no idea if they are still there or not.
It just made me want to slam my head into a wall that they sent the password to the email I was locked out of because I didn't have the password. Shouldn't an IT person know better?
Exactly. Even my daughter, who is way better with tech than I am, was confused by the email and was saying it was really stupid. At least she did figure it out eventually. But things like, it said "Step 1, change your password" but actually that ISN'T step one. You have to sign up first. You DO go to the reset link to do that, but you are supposed to go to sign up first, THEN go to change password. And the link was to "reset" not to log in. It was completely not user friendly. They should have just put in directions like, "go to reset link and click on sign up. Put in your username and password and then go to this link to change your password." Anyway, if it hadn't been for E, I'd never have figured it out, even with the help from the IT guy. I was only able to follow what he said because of what E had explained to me the night before once she figured it out. Then it seems like their IT "thinks" that you have been debriefed or been working for a long time.
Because you simply never tell a new employee "heres your email account.. good luck" without telling where to go, where to change the password, where to login or how to configure an app.
In Central FL less than 5% of homeowners bought flood insurance. Homeowners insurance doesn’t cover flood in the home. It’s a tough situation for the ones affected.Ian came and went in coastal; SC we lost 1 maple tree and a very large pine tree off to the side of the property, 5" of rain and leaves and branches all over the yard. Power has been out since yesterday at 7:30 am thank goodness I have generator to run the well and refrigerator/freeze, and TV. All in all we made out well. My Heart goes out to the people in FL having gone through Hugo I know what they are facing.
