Then there is always my favorite mode of transportWon't do. E would never allow it because she says it's cruel to the horse to make them pull a heavy cart/wagon. When we went to Neuschwanstein castle, they have carriages you can take up the mountain for a fee. Otherwise, you have to walk, because no motorized traffic is allowed on the road. It's a 45 minute hike up a steep mountain road. Granted, the lines waiting for the ride up were hours long and we weren't going to do that anyway, but E was so concerned about the poor horses who had to pull that big wagon with a bunch of people up that hill. It was hard enough to walk up without pulling anything. Whenever we see a horse and buggy, she expresses her distaste for the animal cruelty of it.
Just a suggestion that I used to highlight when I taught defensive driving. If you are in the right lane when vehicles are merging, if you have room move to the left lane. Yes, you have the right of way, but vehicles, especially large ones, have blind spots and cannot always see you and having the right of way will not keep you alive. There are many tombstones that could read... "But... I had the right of way". One of many little tricks we taught to avoid accidents instead of just reacting to either bad drivers or even legit reasons.Yes, we're fine. I always pay extra attention driving down I-83 in PA because people there drive like idiots, especially at night. You get gangs of cars that will fly around you, as well as people who are determined to do 100 mph, which is a really dumb idea because the PA state troopers LOVE to sit on random spots on 83.
Anyway, this semi truck was coming from the left, and I'm in my lane doing my thing. I don't know why, but something about that truck made me pay close attention to it. Good thing because it turned on its turn signal and started coming into my lane...where I was. I somehow was also paying attention to the right lane, noticed there was no one there, and sped around the truck while laying on the horn.
B saw what happened and freaked a little bit, wanted to know if it hit us. I told him no because his sister is an excellent driver. He calmed down after I told him that and zoned out for the rest of the trip.
That’s always to be aware. In small town and rural Lumberton NC on I-95 near the NC / SC border is a favorite for travelers to stop and stay in the hotels. Lumberton is actually one of the most dangerous places to live in NC. When a family on vacation from PA merged onto the 2 lane I-95S their GMC Yukon almost sideswiped a car on the interstate. Road rage followed and the driver who almost got sideswiped shot into the other car and a female traveler from PA was killed. The shooter is now in jail.Just a suggestion that I used to highlight when I taught defensive driving. If you are in the right lane when vehicles are merging, if you have room move to the left lane. I’ve read also that police have been writing a number of speeding tickets during the pandemic with some drivers being clocked on radar on empty highways driving more than 100mph.I had some idiot send me off the highway in Mass. I had to drive on the medium in order not to get hit because he wanted to get in my lane. I could tell they saw me to because they were behind me earlier even though we were almost side by side. Funny thing too that this was in the middle of 'no one was working' phase of the pandemic and the majority of the highway being clear of cars.

My post wasn't addressing the things that happen when there are fools out there, it was about finding ways to protect yourself from the crazies and making the effort as much as possible to not put oneself in the line of danger when it can be avoided. Those listed above were the exceptions not the norm. And yes, Lumberton is a very dangerous place and should be driven through as quickly as possible, but even there, those events listed are rare. But, as we know rare gets the headlines. I-95 is a heavily traveled road and it doesn't help that so many decide that they can drive from the Canadian border to Orlando non-stop. Driving exhausted is the main cause of a lot of those problems and that trip from the north to WDW is one of the abundance of threats on I-95. Personally, due to memories of WDW trips in the past, none of them non-stop, it is my favorite highway.I had some idiot send me off the highway in Mass. I have no doubt about that. People do 100 when the highway is busy anyway.

@StarWarsGirl this came up elsewhere
My first trip in 1983 there were twice as many billboards by Pedro then there is now. It was such a break on an otherwise unexciting highway. On the way back my girls really wanted to go there, so since we were due for a pit stop I agreed. My wife, and daughters all came out just after going into the rest room when they had to pay 25 cents to use the toilets. They all jumped back into the car and we went two more miles into NC to the NC Welcome station where it was free. If it hadn't been for that I'm more than sure that we would have spent a bunch more money there, so they lost numerous dollars to try and collect their quarters. Never stopped back there again, but always looked forward to seeing the giant sombrero on the way by the place. And still liked the signs going both directions.The infamous South of the Border tourist trap at the NC/ SC line.
“Pedro says you never seen sausage place.”
That's very considerate of E to care about the welfare of the horses (and I'm sure, she has a space in her heart for all animals).Won't do. Yep and I'm looking forward to June. June is when I go to Door county for 3 nights. I'm not going yet up there.
