Because it's terrifying!! Anything goes wrong, there's not much of a chance you'll make it out alive. It's like tempting fate. Every time there's a slight movement from turbulance, I'm thinking we're about to plummet to earth. It's not at all fun. I do it out of necessity because the alternative is never getting to visit friends and family, or go to Disney, etc.
Except every pilot has to undergo years and years of training before they're allowed to fly. This means that everyone in the sky is competent. Statistically, flying is safer than driving where there are tons of idiots. Like the driver of the semi truck who nearly smashed into my car on the Interstate this evening. :banghead:

OMG are you and your brother ok? As for flying each level of license has different requirements but all require a physical and there's a difference in the physical required for different licenses. Also much of what's taught is what can go wrong and how to manage that situation. From what I've heard not including taking off and landing which are the hardest parts of flying, flying is easier than driving unless you really hate math then weight and balance along with wind triangles are a pita.

Yes, we're fine. I always pay extra attention driving down I-83 in PA because people there drive like idiots, especially at night. You get gangs of cars that will fly around you, as well as people who are determined to do 100 mph, which is a really dumb idea because the PA state troopers LOVE to sit on random spots on 83.

Anyway, this semi truck was coming from the left, and I'm in my lane doing my thing. I don't know why, but something about that truck made me pay close attention to it. Good thing because it turned on its turn signal and started coming into my lane...where I was. I somehow was also paying attention to the right lane, noticed there was no one there, and sped around the truck while laying on the horn.

B saw what happened and freaked a little bit, wanted to know if it hit us. I told him no because his sister is an excellent driver. :angelic: He calmed down after I told him that and zoned out for the rest of the trip.

That may be true, but the pilot can also suddenly become sick, or there could be a highjacking, or whatever. There was just a story a couple of weeks ago about a guy with no experience having to land a plane when the pilot passed out. He had to contact ground control and they walked him through landing the plane. Obviously, that wasn't a huge commercial flight, because those have co-pilots as well, who could take over if the pilot can no longer fly. But even if I'm in an accident in a car, the chance of me surviving is much greater than surviving a plane crash.

Actually most survive plane crashes. The reason the deadly ones make the news is they are so rare and if it bleeds it leads

Won't do. E would never allow it because she says it's cruel to the horse to make them pull a heavy cart/wagon. When we went to Neuschwanstein castle, they have carriages you can take up the mountain for a fee. Otherwise, you have to walk, because no motorized traffic is allowed on the road. It's a 45 minute hike up a steep mountain road. Granted, the lines waiting for the ride up were hours long and we weren't going to do that anyway, but E was so concerned about the poor horses who had to pull that big wagon with a bunch of people up that hill. It was hard enough to walk up without pulling anything. Whenever we see a horse and buggy, she expresses her distaste for the animal cruelty of it.
