Yep, as I remember, Stock Car racing was definitely much different in its infancy than what NASCAR is now. The cars had to be totally stock, as in what’s available to the public, in at least 500 production models of the car being raced.
Sooooo definitely not that now… :cyclops:
Stock car racing on TV is a bore and always has been. Being there in person is so different. Local NASCAR was always fun to watch and I'll tell you why. Those cars generated a thunderously loud noise that sent vibrations through the ground and air and into your body. Not only were you watching it, you were feeling it as well. One of are local tracks was named Thunder Road and that sums it up pretty well. I used to go to every local weekly race up until I was about 24 and after that they started closing down the tracks and I just lost interest.

That was a great 20 laps!! We started late watching it.
Yah, that's what I was referring to earlier, when I mentioned that the drivers pick up the pace and strategies toward the end of the race. They pull out the high stakes, gutsy moves, and either they work, or they wreck. I was on the edge of my seat.!

Congratulations to the 23-year-old rookie, Austin Cindric (Team Penske), in the #2 Ford Mustang, for his Daytona 500 win in overtime. Very impressed with his talent in holding off a formidable driver, Bubba Wallace, who placed second.

What a great birthday present for 85-year-old owner, Roger Penske!!!

And oh yah, the prize money for first place: $ 2,064,397 (plus various endorsements, etc.). Not a bad paycheck for driving around circles. :p

Same here, but it all depends. We have an area with black mud and not grey dust. Thus when you pass over that area.. the dirt is darker and you can see it clearly.
I feel sorry for those who live up the mountain where the dirt is bright red.
My dad lived out on a ranch where all of the roads were unpaved and instead covered with this red scoria/shale. Vehicles are always covered with a layer of red road dust....impossible to keep clean.
