First off, the ribbons of salt sprayed on roads previous to the storm are as useless as a milk pail under a bull. Around here in NC they do it the day before. In the meantime it dries on the road and car traffic blows most of it off, then being in the south it usually rains before it snows so it washes whatever remains on the road off the road.

Any amount of snow, of a half inch and above completely paralyses the place. We used a lot of salt in Vermont. If a storm was forecast the plows loaded with actual salt crystals and light sand mix were stationed at the main state highways waiting. Local communities did the same so when it did storm, be it snow or even freezing rain the crews met it head on. It had to be a massive nor'easter to stop anything in Vermont. Here in NC it is pathetic. The ground never really freezes here, at least to any depth) so the roads are usually clear before long, but frozen bridges are a problem. What they would do is make cars exit, cross over to the entrance on the other side of the bridge. That was good for a very massive traffic jam. It used to make me want to scream. GET A PICKUP, PUT SAND IN IT AND A COUPLE OF SHOVELS AND THROW SAND ON THE DAMN BRIDGE. Also they wouldn't ever put the plows out until the storm had left and was by then in another state or over the ocean. Please don't tell me they couldn't get to work because of the storm, they couldn't get to work because they waited until it was over before even trying. There is a reason why there is an auto body repair shop about every 100 feet all it takes is light rain around here to see just how unskilled drivers are around here.

I know that living in Vermont afforded a lot of opportunity to learn how to drive in ice and snow. However, you never learn how to if you don't try. With what should be obvious by now is that we are having a major change in climate on the entire planet that we need to be prepared for everything. (Please stop referring to it as Global Warming, this is much more extensive than that and the worst is yet to come.) We can survive it as soon as we stop denying it is happening. Look what happened in Texas last year simply because no one expected it and when it came, no one knew what to do or how to do it. One cannot be prepared for everything. I remember a major ice storm in Vermont and Quebec back in the 1990's that brought us to our knees as well, but we at least had some basics in place to survive. If we as a allegedly intelligent life form could stop trying to prove who is right, scientists that spend their life learning about climate patterns or an Uber driver we just might adapt in time to save our foolish skin!
I know a guy who retired to FL who worked on the essential road crew during winter time in NJ. He advised if he didn't report to work to help salt and plow the NJ Turnpike he would be fired. I knew a guy that lived in Florence SC. One year the city got 4 inches of snow and the city was paralyzed.

My dh has to go in unless it's over 6-8 inches or ice. Thank goodness he always has enough leave he usually can get off if it's bad. The other good thing is they have an essential crew that moves in until the storm has been cleared. Thankfully he hasn't had to do that in a while

So, Happy New Year's Eve, everybody! This morning, when hubs and I were discussing what Chinese food to order for dinner tonight, we both looked at each other and said -- "Why should we have to wait for tonight?! Let's have a huge lunch!! :joyfull: So, he called in the order at 11:30, and we chowed down on a ton of food at 1:00. :hungry:

Mushu pork with thin pancakes and Hoison sauce; spicy beef with peapods; fried rice with chicken, beansprouts and onions; steamed pork dumplings; and deep fried chicken wings. I ate and ate and ate like a woman possessed!! :hilarious: We washed it all down with sparkling apple cider. YUM!

One of my favorite dishes is Moo Shu Shrimp.
The hoisin sauce is beyond amazing, and the thin wraps are a perfect vessel to hold all the Moo Shu goodness without being too thick and bready…sooooooo darn good…!!!!!!! :hungry::joyfull:

I just saw that Betty White died, and now I'm so sad. That's a terrible ending to the year! We were just talking about her today when I was watching a documentary about the house of Windsor and we were thinking about how old queen Elizabeth is and how Betty White would be 100 in just a couple weeks. It's just unbelievable. I want it to be some big prank to make people think that's how 2021 is ending.

That's sounds delish! Many years ago I had Peking duck, hoisin sauce and all wrapped around a warm thin crepe wrap and it was the best Chinese burrito in my life!

Everything's better with hoisin sauce! ;)

P.S.: I'm now eating Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey (bananna ice cream, with chocolate chunks and nuts mixed in).

Good thing I'm wearing elastic waist sweatpants today! :joyfull:

Sounds good! I saw a movie Eat Pray Love starring Julia Roberts. One part of the movie was filmed in Rome where mostly she did was eat and eat. She said she felt guilty but told her friend tomorrow is when we buy bigger jeans!

For me, I still remember the ambulance in the first Madden game I played. That game showed why I don't like using my quarterback to run for yards unless going out of bounds.

I am referring to this as a prime example:

I think @MinnieM123 and @Mr Ferret 88 want that snow from 35 second mark to the 1 minute and 5 second mark in the video to be moved from the football field to the areas they live in.
