I've been getting updates all morning DD13 has this crazy idea she's going to be a field meteorologist and chase these things. Spent until 4am watching live streams until storms were past us.
Even the debris lift height has never been seen like this before. 20k+ ft into the air. At points the radar returns started showing black because it was off the scale.
Glad you're safe

@Figgy1 and @StarWarsGirl will be happy to know I went to Target today and was in there for over an hour and a half.

Is that really selfish, though? I mean...the company wants me to work my tail off, but they also want to give as little as possible in return. I, in turn, don't feel like going out of my way to do extra. And in the case of the employer, when there are people who take extra long breaks, or who play on their phones instead of working (we're not supposed to have our phones on the workfloor) hiding in between shelves so they don't get caught, I can see why the bosses don't want to pay them even more and don't want to bend over backwards to offer them time off. With these huge companies with hundreds of employees, you don't have the personal relationships like you have with the people in your company. The big bosses aren't even there in the evenings when I work. Before the company moved, I rode my bike to work and could work during the day. Now it's not in biking distance, and my husband has the car during the day, so I can't work until evening, but I have a good rapport with the evening managers. But they aren't the ones who issue bonuses or give raises. It's not so much selfish as lacking personal connections with everyone. They don't necessarily know who works their tail off and who is sitting in a bathroom stall with their phone. There's just a lack of accountability and trust because everyone is nameless. I mean, I guess there's an element of selfishness or maybe entitlement is a better word for it among some of them, but I guess I just don't see myself as selfish because I want to get more if I give more. I just don't think there's any way they could give me more without also giving it to the people who AREN'T working hard. Neither of us are selfish in that scenario, we just want what we deserve and don't trust that we'll get it.

To be clear, I wasn’t referring to you as being selfish.
The slackers me off too, and they seem to be the main problem, when it comes to large companies.
Carolyn works for a title company, and there is one older lady (yes, older than us…!!!!! :hilarious:) that works there that is a total slacker. Carolyn is either constantly having to help her with her work, or do it for her. It’s not a secret to management, so we wonder how she keeps her job. I guess if the company fired her for incompetence, she might sue them for age discrimination…?! No clue….:cyclops:

Office Christmas party last night was AWESOME…!!!!!!! :joyfull:
Free booze all night, although I only had one vodka martini, 2 glasses of wine, and 3 strong rum and Coke’s. Others had A LOT more and had a room at the hotel. Carolyn doesn’t drink much, so she drove us home.
Forgot to get a pic of our entrees..!!!!!
Carolyn had the pan seared red snapper, and I had the braised short rib in grits…both excellent…!!!!! :hungry:
Some pics from the night…!!! :)
WOWZA!!! What a party! (I haven't seen gentlemen in white dinner jackets for ages. And I noticed one of the women in a beautiful sequined gown.) The partners at your firm really know how to throw a party. The closest I ever came to an event like that hosted by an employer, was years ago when I worked in the hotel industry. They had hotels at their beck and whim, and some of the spreads they'd put out for the holiday parties were jaw-dropping!

Thanks for sharing those photos -- your company really knows how to show its appreciation to the hard workers.

We don’t even get packages delivered home anymore if they're important. DHs boss let's him have packages delivered to work.
That's a nice perk. Companies that I've worked for did not allow personal packages to be delivered to the company address. Reason is that there were so many (business) packages delivered on a daily basis, that the mailrooms were unable to keep up with increased volume of employees' (personal) packages (especially during the Christmas shopping season) as well.

I really should have had my last package (my computer) delivered to my dad's office. I work from home, so I though, meh, this won't be a big deal, but I think FedEx would have done better sending something to a business.

I did the delivering to a business thing several times at my old job. My current job (which I worked less than a year at before the pandemic started so I've been wfh the majority of the time I've been in this role) let us mail things out from work but didn't let us receive stuff from work.

I have a channel on Cable here that as far as I can tell shows nothing but Friends 24/7/365. I have never seen anything else listed on that channel. I never watched it when it was part of regular programing, but when I had the accident that laid me up for a couple of months started watching it and really enjoyed it. I never watch it at all anymore because even though I like the show, I never liked the character of Ross or Rachel. She was obnoxious and he was constantly whining. And dammit they were indeed on a break and if I were Ross I would have taken that opportunity to depart the city and leave no forwarding address.

Never got into that show, or Seinfeld.
I remember when they were hyping a new show several years back, to premier after the Super Bowl called Modern Family. Both Carolyn and I looked at each other the whole show like “What the hell is this crap…?!?!?!” and never watched another episode.
It went on to great heights, as did the others, but, we never had any interest in ‘em.

That's been happening here for months. Once in a while, they actually deliver it at a normal time, like afternoon. The other night, it was delivered at 7:30 PM. Crazy.
The USPS is understaffed too. What happens is that the ones that are still working or not out sick have to do their own route and when they finish they come back in load up and go back out again to cover the other route. Or they just load up both in the morning and just go from one into the other.
