Yeah I am up. What???!! 🤣
We got woken up around 5 when a tractor trailer turned in our subdivision. He has blocked our entrance. DH went out to see what happened. He said his transmission went. We have no idea why he didn’t just stay in the road and go straight to the business he was going to in the first place which is the next driveway.🤦🏻‍♀️
DH says the truck damaged a lot of our landscape Timbers in the corner.😡
Now let’s see how the wrecker is getting him out!
All the neighbors are having to use the neighbors driveway in front of us to get out and go to work. It’s a mess!

I was driving a short stretch of I-95 last week and if there is a trucker shortage I'd hate to be on it if it is full force. There were at least 4 trucks for every car. I've ordered everything online for Christmas and every bit of it has arrived within a couple days and a whole lot of them are stamped "made in China". It's probably true, it is just that I makes me wonder.
Your observations are valid. What I'm wondering, however, is if that busy scene is (consistently) the same all over the highways, across the country. Up here, I know that all the retailers, grocers, etc., are saying that they can't get in their full orders. Supplies are delivered via truck, so there is a definite slowdown.

We never had those plastic seat covers in any of our cars, that I remember, but, I remember many friends and relatives did.
I don't recall plastic seat covers in cars, but I do recall a neighbor who put those awful things on all her livingroom furniture., They made a weird sound when you sat down on them. :jawdrop:

But more to the point, her furniture had a lovely floral pattern on them, and I couldn't understand why (even as a child) she bought such a pretty pattern, only to not be able to enjoy the furniture? It was like it was sacred or something--not meant for sitting on.

I am old enough to know that we can't always judge a situation by only what we see externally, so yes it is likely that the shipping ports are the problem because, as you said they are still getting deliveries via trucks, they just don't have a full load. I had originally thought that retirement might mean the end of stress, but the last five years have been almost more than I can stand, so I decided to just live each day. What news I hear I quickly block out of my memory due to the inability to determine truth from BS coming from any direction (it helps to be older for that trick). I haven't looked into the details or causes of all of that. I don't look at it as being negative either, we might have needed to understand how our actions affect us in the most direct way. But, I stay fairly clear of detail if there is nothing that I can personally do to correct it, if that were needed. I read headlines and so far very few things catch my curiosity enough to pursue more detail than that. Some days are better than others.;):)

Wow. Had to remove the intake manifold…? Just crazy.
My Pops old truck, with the camper on it, would get up to 12 mpg highway on a good day with a tailwind.
350 small block with with a Rochester 4bbl.
What engine combo was in your ‘56…?
The difference is probably in the fact that all that stuff is now built to last over 100K miles without being changed. I also think it is deliberate done that way from the manufacturers. When I moved into my current apartment I had no place to store most of my tools. My son in law is getting use out of them now. But I am skeptical because I just took my VW in for an Oil/filter change. It came to $210.00. Special grade of oil required to keep the warrantee valid (Close to $10.00 per quart), Oil Filter (standard screw in cartridge $32) Cabin filter ($38.) Engine air filter, normal type but special size which they didn't have because even VW cannot secure their own requirement ($80) I had them just take it out and use their air compressor to reverse flow the filter and blow out whatever dirt that is in there. They looked at me like I had two heads, so I showed them how to do that. I had them rotate two tires and the rest was labor charges.

Please take lots of pictures to protect yourself if/for when you file a claim for any damage to your property

We had a few neighbors that still probably have them.
