Don't blame me! MPG is always on the check list when buying a car. Latest on 40 mpg city and highway:joyfull:
Mine doesn't get 40 mpg unless it is on the highway, it's around 32 in the stop and go city. However, if I decide, which of course I wouldn't because I am a law abiding citizen, to stomp on the accelerator it probably drops to about 3 mpg's. I would do it but my kids seem to think that I am to old for such a thing. Oh, the places I have gone! No sense in shattering their opinions of me. What they don't know will not show up in any eulogy.

Some stuff you may end up telling your grandkids. No one knew some of the stuff my grandma got into until she told me. 😂 The three boyfriends in high school...one for Friday, one for Saturday, one for Sunday.

The state of automobiles (not counting commercial vehicles) is ridiculous. We never learned the lesson after the embargo in the 1970's. The size of SUV's make no sense at all. But mostly the style. I could and still can identify the year, make and model of most every car made after 1955 until about 15 years ago. Heck there even was a time when you could tell just by the sound of the engine. My father used to only buy Buicks. We knew when he was arriving strictly by the sound of the motor.

I look around now and every single SUV looks alike. I cannot tell at all if it is a cheaper Chevrolet or a BMW. And they are basically all white. What a bland world and also silly when you will pay thousands of dollars more for a car that can only be recognized if one has memorized that little chrome logo on the rear. Not impressive at all. And why the ginormous size? Are they hauling around enough lumber to build a house if they need it, or a family of four with their hand held electronics. I have shown my car on here before and I bought because the design caught my eye and is different then most other cars. I isn't more expensive, it just looks it, in fact the price falls on the lower end of the scale, but I can get anywhere I want to go "quickly" and inexpensively. I just don't understand.

As a kid when fall came, for excitement we drove from dealer to dealer just to see the design of the new cars. All we have to do now is just pick any random dealer and if you've seen one you've seen them all. Pretty much the only difference will be the taillight configuration and headlight design. And yet they charge, in most cases, more for those vehicles then I paid for the last house I purchased in 1976 and the house was expected to last practically forever. However, that vehicle has planned obsolescence imbedded in it's DNA. Designed to need replacement even before it is paid for.
Agree!

So, here's a tidbit. Went to my local UPS Store to ship out a box (no rush, just figured I'd send it out ahead of time, since I've been hearing about shipping delays across the country).

Anyway, the manager and I were chatting. He told me that up in the large shipping hub (a city in my state), they normally have about 1,000 employees in the shipping warehouse, during the busy holiday season.

However, he said this month they're lucky if they can get even 300-400 people for these jobs; and on top of that, they're short truck drivers (nationwide, actually). Yikes!

Just thought I'd pass along these deets, to suggest people allow for a lot of extra time, when shipping out boxes for holiday gifts, etc.

Back in the olden days, (the 50's) almost all cars were two tone. I really like that look. There was all black, red and if it wasn't the same color but a different tone, it was any random color with a white top. Seems like with todays technology it would be easier to do that now then back then, but probably adds a lot to the cost. Back then was when a new regular car was $1500 to $2800 new.
I remember watching Price Is Right in the 70’s, and on the “guess the price of the car” game, it always started with a 3 or a 4.

Now it still starts with a 3 or 4, but multiplied by 10!

Thanks.

I am not surprised. I already sent out my Christmas lists. Only reason I didn't give my younger brother sooner was Midwest Gaming Classic. I already started ordering Christmas gifts.

I was driving a short stretch of I-95 last week and if there is a trucker shortage I'd hate to be on it if it is full force. There were at least 4 trucks for every car. I've ordered everything online for Christmas and every bit of it has arrived within a couple days and a whole lot of them are stamped "made in China". It's probably true, it is just that I makes me wonder.

We saw the Eternals yesterday in theaters. I enjoyed it well enough. I think most of the issue with it was it moved too slowly in places and the plot at times got too convuluted. But I really enjoyed Gemma Chan in the lead. Sersi is awesome.

B enjoyed it because, ya know, if there's some sort of alien that gets chopped up at some point, or there's explosions, he's entertained. Especially the aliens being chopped up thing. No wonder he likes Guardians and Men in Black so much.

I thought the actress that played Sersi was great too. It took me awhile to remember where I had seen her before, but it took me awhile to remember who Salma Hayek was too!

I bought my first new car in 1970 when I returned from Vietnam. A brand new gold w/white vinyl top, 350ci V-8. Buick Skylark, $3200.00. I had that car for close to 7 years. It was the center point of most of my young adult life. Dating, honeymoons, new living arrangements, two new humans brought home. I put about 120K miles on it, which in those years, getting that many miles on a car was nothing short of a miracle. I loved that car, but even though it had never failed me, I had a toddler and a new born and we lived in the country so I thought it would be a good idea to get a newer one.

Today might have been the last 60 plus degree day of the month and the whole year where I live. 60 degree days are very rare going late in November or anytime in December.

Right now, there is a 40 percent chance of snow on Sunday in the morning. It usually does not snow this early in the part of Wisconsin I live in. Hopefully it changes to no snow. If does snow, Hopefully it wouldn't be a lot of inches.

New cars have all the bells and whistles now but they all seem to look the same I'l take a 50's car any day one you can fix yourself and not have to sell a kidney to pay the bill

On further follow-up…
My Pop still has his 1970 Chevy Camper Special, that we had a cab over camper on, and used to travel back and forth from No Cal to Texas every summer during the early-mid ‘70’s to visit family.
Thing has no A/C, which seems crazy to me now, because we drove through So Cal, Arizona, New Mexico, and deep into the heart of Texas, and back. I remember it bein’ 118 degrees one afternoon when we stopped outside of Tucson, AZ.
We survived just fine by just opening all the windows.
Anyway, you can practically stand in the engine compartment of that truck, as it is so clear of crap.
Every single spark plug, etc., is right in front of your face and easily accessible.
These days, you’re lucky if you can even glimpse a plug or two, much less easily access ‘em…!!!!! :hilarious:

They wanted over 500 bucks to change the spark plugs in my RAM truck ugh!! bought plugs on Amazon 80 bucks looked on tube for directions had to remove a bunch of stuff to get to them but was able to do it. Wife's Ford escape had to remove the intake manifold to get to the rear plugs. I think about mid 80's car manufactures designed cars so you couldn't work on them yourself. That's progress for you --up side cars are safer and more fuel efficient- my hot rod chevy got 8 miles to the gallon if I didn't open that 4 barrel carb

Wow. Had to remove the intake manifold…? Just crazy.
My Pops old truck, with the camper on it, would get up to 12 mpg highway on a good day with a tailwind.
350 small block with with a Rochester 4bbl.
What engine combo was in your ‘56…?
