Back in the day a buddy took a 55 ford 2 door and dropped a 428 cu engine he pulled out of a Merc station wagon. Left it looking like an old ladies car. That thing could blow the doors off of guys who thought they had hot cars .

My grandfather on my Moms side had a ‘54 Ford until the day he died. He also had a ‘29 Ford Model A ragtop that he bought new in ‘29. I remember riding through their pasture in it when it was a rust bucket. He spent a few years restoring it in the late ‘60’s/early ‘70’s, to the point that it was in the annual hometown 4th of July Parade for several years…!!! :)
:)
He never restored the ‘54, but, it was still in pretty good condition, even all those years later, as was the ‘29 A after restoration all those years ago…the below pics are pretty much exactly them…!!!:)

Oh yea, I remember stations like that from back in the day here, too. To access the bathroom, you had to get a key from the attendant that was attached to a toilet seat, or some other large object, so the key was less likely to be run off with…!!!!! :hilarious:
All those types of stations around here were either repurposed for another business, or torn down and replaced with another business structure.
I was into cars at a young age, and I had this gas station play set, at one point. It had plastic attendants in uniform, cars, etc.
It was was something like this, and man, did I ever love it…!!!!! :inlove::hilarious:

We've got our own stupidly named WaWa here and it is called SHEETS. It does everything that WaWa does and it is something that I don't understand. Why would anyone buy meals at basically a gas station. If you are working and go there for a small lunch or something, sure, but I have known people that go to SHEETS because the food is so great, they say. Have they even looked at the people that are preparing those edibles. I have two grandkids that work part time for SHEETS and I have to say that they are good to their employees. That make on average about $16 dollars per hour and are very flexible. That's a pretty nice chunk of change for students or high school grads.
I've found Sheetz to be between a rest stop and WaWa. They're convenient when I'm on the road all day but a bit much for a local place

Yep, even some of the newer cars were able to be shade-tree machanic’d…!!!!! :hilarious:
I changed an upper radiator hose on my ‘71 Olds Cutlass in a 7-11 parking lot one time using one thin dime as my clamp screwdriver, a block-mounted fuel pump in a parking lot on a ‘78 Buick Regal, etc….not so much these days…!!!!! :hilarious:

Most cars now need you to either completely lift the car or dismount the engine.
I wonder how long until cars go full "apple" style.
Some people saying that the Telsas are unserviceable.

One young lady that got into a little mishap with her car a few years ago clipped her passenger side view mirror and cracked it. She started freaking out saying she can't drive because that was broken. I got news for her and I advised her. My 1987 Mazda 323 back in the day with no AC didn't even come equipped from the factory with a passenger side view mirror. Not exactly a first world problem.

They wanted over 500 bucks to change the spark plugs in my RAM truck ugh!! bought plugs on Amazon 80 bucks looked on tube for directions had to remove a bunch of stuff to get to them but was able to do it. Wife's Ford escape had to remove the intake manifold to get to the rear plugs. I think about mid 80's car manufactures designed cars so you couldn't work on them yourself. That's progress for you --up side cars are safer and more fuel efficient- my hot rod chevy got 8 miles to the gallon if I didn't open that 4 barrel carb

Drove by Catfish Parlour around 12:30 on my way home.
The place was packed yet again. Being this is the last day it’ll ever be open, we can hopefully at least get some to go, but, there’s no way we’re gonna’ try to brave the crowds and eat there.
Very sad, and I wish there was some way it could have been saved, but, it is what it is.
So long, old friend.

Pics in honor…

When you come to Fort Lauderdale, we have Catfish Dewey’s. Been around forever.
The last time I saw the Stones was in 1981 at the Cotton Bowl up in Dallas. We drove up from Austin very early the morning of the show to get there early and get a good spot.
We were among about the first 200 people in, and got a spot pretty close to the stage in the center. The Fabulous Thunderbirds and ZZ Top opened for them. During the show they put Jagger in a cherry picker while performing “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” and swung him right over us several times…!!! :)
We went to that concert because the word was that it might be their last tour…and here they are still touring 40 years later (sans Charlie Watts, may he RIP)…!!!!! :hilarious:
Hope y’all had a great time…!!! :)
They did a nice video tribute to Charlie at the beginning, and then Mick dedicated the show to him about halfway through.

Had a great time!

Re: insomnia: I am the king of it. First, my doctor tried Ambien. That was not the best idea. Then he listened to me about the “can’t turn my brain off” part, and gave me a very low dose of Xanax. That doesn’t put you to sleep, but it allows you to relax so you can go to sleep. .25 mg, and I usually can break that in half unless it’s a really bad night.

I've also heard of those. My question is, would they be hot (considering the "weight")? Do you know anyone who's tried them yet?
I have one. It's not hot at all. A lot of times, if I'm running hot, I'll sleep with just it. Last night for some reason was one of those nights. Get one that says it has cooling beads.

I sleep SOOOO much better with it. I even drag it along on vacation. I move around a lot when I sleep, and it keeps me from doing it as much. Between that and melatonin, I sleep so much better than I used to.

@MinnieM123 This is the one I have. It's reasonably priced (they're doing a $40 coupon actually; I just ordered a second one so I can actually wash mine, lol, and also so I have a vacation one and an at-home one. Even the pricing without the coupon is reasonable). It's super cool with just a sheet plus the blanket. Just be sure to get the one for your weight

Amazon product ASIN B075W94KB3
Here's a size chart:

It also depends on how heavy you like it. I like mine on the heavier side (I'm not going to reveal my weight, but it's not anywhere near 250 pounds!) but I have a 20 pound blanket.

Don’t know when we’ll ever be in Fort Lauderdale, but, thanks for the tip, as I definitely LUVS me some fried catfish…!!!!! :hungry:

Cool about the tribute and dedication to Charlie…!!! :)

I currently have a prescription for Xanax .5 mg tabs. I try not to use it as a sleep aid, but, for really stressful times, which seem to be occurring more and more, and I really have no idea why…?!?!?!!!!! :cyclops::hilarious:
