I only use my debit card at my own bank's ATM machine. I never use it at a POS terminal. For purchases at stores (if I don't have enough cash on me), and for purchases online, I use my credit cards only. (Going down memory lane, my first credit card I got was for a large dept. store in the city. After a few years, I got 2 major credit cards, and closed out the store card.) This still works for me. :)
I very rarely use cash. I always have some stashed away in my room, but I practically never use it. Credit card rewards are basically free money and who doesn't want that.

I don't use my credit cards when getting gas. Too many instances crooks install their card reading machines inside the gas pumps and customer credit cards are impacted. I have a 15 gallon car gas tank so I can calculate how many gallons of gas needed and current price per gallon and always pay with cash. Better safe than sorry.

I have one credit card that I use only for gas. That way, if there's anything besides gas charged on that card, I know it's suspicious. Nothing's ever been charged on that card besides gas.

There is generally security tape on the gas pumps where the credit card goes inside the slot. The crooks cut the tape to run their credit card reading machine inside the gas pumps on the interstate I-95 and locally. ( FL ). A number of times I see the tape cut then I alert the attendant inside the store. Some look at me with a blank stare.

I use my Debit card a lot, I have $20 in my wallet that almost is never used. Whenever I am buying a small item or groceries I use the Debit. I get a percentage of my checking balance if I use it a certain number of times per month. I also monitor it and daily update expenses on my Quicken account, which in affect is my check register. I do a daily check on my Debit card and a couple of credit cards that I use also on a daily basis. Certain credit cards give me cash back if I use it for gas others for restaurants and some for other things. But I try to stick with just three cards and my debit.

We’ve got $2.69 5 mins. from our house.

It's different every day up here (MA), but the "range" is approx. $3.13-$3:16. So, somewhat seimilar to @ajrwdwgirl ($3.19 Wisconsin).

You are doing good (If one can say that) but then you are in the great state of Texas that has refineries produces gas and oil rigs pumping As the Beverly Hillbillies theme said black gold --Texas tea
