I know that too and can cause fires if not careful depending on where they land. Someone in Wisconsin got hurt from fireworks 6 days ago in the hands and stomach area. The fireworks were large despite the size being illegal in Wisconsin.

They City I live in had 2 police officers injured from fireworks last night. What happened was someone threw powerful fireworks at them.

The city I live in banned shops from selling fireworks and people shooting them off unless you are a professional. They banned them because of potential of people getting killed or hurt from fireworks. What I mean by professional is the people the city hires for lighting them off in parks, lakefront, or special events. What I mean by special events is if the local sports team wins something big, fireworks shot after festival ends, or a race is finished as examples.

The state law allows people to buy fireworks in Wisconsin, but you need a permit to set them off in the backyard. The ones allowed are toy snakes, sparklers less than 36 inches long, stationary cones and fountains, smoke bombs, caps, noisemakers, and confetti paper with less than 1/4 of explosive mixture.

Also some types of fireworks are supposed to be illegal in Wisconsin. The ones with the big explosions are supposed to be banned, but heard them last night.

They way Wisconsin fireworks laws works is where you live in the state has the right to ban all of them unless you are hired to light them off by government officials, or organizers of special events.
Considering theres news of kids fighthing each other with fireworks in a "fireworks fight" (theres videos) Im surprised deaths havent been higher.

Yikes, that's awful about the fireworks-related injuries. There were some very loud ones in my area last night as well, but they knocked off the insanity by 10. My hunch is the cops kicked them out of the area. Problem is that the patrols are very inconsistent, and noise complaints are always secondary to other more serious calls for police assistance around here.

@Willmark , how is your back these days? Last time you mentioned it, you said the doctor thought you might be able to avoid surgery, and that it might just heal on its own, over time. Hoping you're feeling better.

We stayed a second night in the room. (Buy 2 get one free; we can use the free night when we go to WDW - hopefully for my 50th next…omg…month 🤭)

Picked a place to eat on the beach that was a total winner. Complete with a toast to passing the halfway mark of nursing school and expanding the store. Elsa who?
That's a great deal if you can use the free night at another time! Happy birthday to you, next month!

This is a thread from Tripadvisor regarding my wife and I visiting the northern section of North Carolina in late August.
If you are in the mood, I'd value your local input on my plans.
If my first link is successful I'll come back and post a 2nd link.
It's a lot so don't feel obligated to read it all.
Thanks in advance.

I wish I could help you but I am not familiar with that area of NC. It is a big state and I've only lived here for 10 years. I know that's not an excuse but after I left Vermont I pretty much only have on direction and that is south. I have ventured east to the ocean and west to the Smoky Mountains and beyond to Dollywood once. I should add both of those situations were basically straight line east or west on I-40. I know that there are others on the board that are more in the area that you are interested in. There are some really beautiful areas in NC. The feed back that you already have gotten through TripAdvisor seems to be pretty good. I'm never been a "love the wild" type person. I think I mentioned that my idea of roughing it is a Holiday Inn with no room service or indoor pool. I'm sure others will step up and help you out. Sorry!

P.S. I lived within view of the Adirondacks and the Green Mountains for 63 years of my life, so mountains don't attract me anymore. Especially after spending many winters directing bus traffic to and from the base lodge of Mount Mansfield in Stowe, Vt. I do like oceans but only for brief visits on nice sunny days.🙂

Sorry to butt in but I do know about some of the areas you mentioned to @Goofyernmost. Boone and Blowing Rock are two beautiful areas, home to Appalachian State Uni where my DD attended undergrad and grad school. She lived there for 6 years. She now lives in Greensboro, which is another pretty city. No mountain views there due to being flat land. Hickory, Lenoir area nice and views of mountains. Easy to get to all these cities on major interstates. Good luck in your planning. Lots of info online if you search it out.

Unfortunately no. The acute injuries (2) have piled on the chronic ones and will require surgery at some point.

@93boomer , is your hubby (and his colleagues) on some sort of standby, in case (hurricane) Elsa wipes out a lot of power in the southern states? Hoping that it will mostly track out to sea, so that most people won't be affected.
Yes as always, but he is on vacation all week next week so won’t be helping. We are going to Charleston SC for three days. We need to get away!! Dealing with aging parents and work stress is not fun right now. 😟
