Yeah, but they rarely get snow or ice so doing it only a few times every decade or longer will not ruin the roads.

North Texas actually gets ice or snow more than a few times a decade, but, West Texas gets a decent annual average snowfall every year. We don’t get as much here in Central Texas, of course, but, as posted by me earlier, it even sometimes falls on the beach in Galveston, like this week..!!! :)

@donaldtoo I just saw somebody post it may get much worse before it gets better power wise. Please find all your flashlights, charge phones, unplug anything that's not getting used. Make sure the grill is cleared off(ready to go), find extra blankets and warm clothes. Good luck and stay safe

Thanks, Figgy...!!! :)
We’re as set as we can get at this point. We’re suburban, and have plenty of needed groceries, so we‘ll make due, as things will actually warm up Thursday afternoon...!!! :)
Plus, I actually made a larger beer run earlier...!!!!! :hilarious:

As always, thanks, Figgy...!!! :)
We’ve got 7 cases of water, plus a bunch of canned food and know how to use a manual can opener. ;) I, honestly, really appreciate your concern, but, we’ll be fine, I’m sure.
I was just out front, so there’s this, but, after this winter it’ll be trip-digit city again for day after day...as our record high is 112, both in 2000, and 2011...!!!!!!! :joyfull:

Yep, this is just sooooooo cute right now, but, the next image is even cuter...!!!!!!! :joyfull:🤗

I was reading articles how people didn't have power for 2 days. Scary but it tells us how much our telephone poles and everything is horrible. I didn't have power for one day last year (wicked 15 min storm from a hurricane that brushed by us) and went to my parents. 🤣 Brought my whole freezer and fridge too. I never have a lot in there anyway being one person unless I cook/bake and freeze. Never had power go out during snow or ice. (knock on wood for tomorrow).

Apparently, Texas in a desire to be independent has their grid separate from the US and that don't have to com[ply with rules that can help with cold weather.

To be honest that thought has crossed my mind. I know one of them has accepted, in a form, my aging and change in physical ability, the other has been really good at denial for years. If I bring up the subject of getting older and the years are going fast, she will immediately compare me to my wife and say that I try to keep moving and strong and that I will outlive all of them. Frankly, I hope not. I do not want to see my kids go first, I don't know how any parent deals with that. My wife was 8 years older then me, so I haven't lived as long as she did yet. She passed at 76. I still have 3+years to go to just equal that. However, I do think that what you said has a lot of bearing on the situation.

After I posted that self pity post, in fact, right after I got a text from my youngest. Her text was, "I just had some Cream of Wheat. I haven't had any of that for 30 years". I'm sure that that was code for are you alright? She knows that whether or not she had Cream of Wheat or not was not text worthy. So that made me feel better. I hadn't posted on Facebook for a couple of days at least for areas that she would see. After I responded she asked if I had any side effects from the shot and hearing that, if I did, it was so minor that I really can't for sure say that it was caused by anything special. She told me that she was happy that I was now all vaccinated up. The joy of getting old is that you wake up everyday with something hurting. Hard to decide why. ;):D

AHA!! It's the ol' Cream of Wheat switcheroo . . . (a.k.a., "I love you, Dad.") ❤️

In 1997, I think, the northeast got a major ice storm. We were without power at my house for about 2 days, but some places took over a month to get any power. I would have loved to have a portable generator franchise at that time. Trees were damaged with broken limbs and in some cases pulled right out of the ground. Pine tree branches had sagged down all the way to the ground where they froze into that position. It was interesting when they finally thawed and snapped backup. Huge power line stanchions were bent in half pointing to the ground and they were metal. The northeastern grid gets/got most of it's power from Quebec and they had millions of major power lines on the ground because of the weight of the ice. My wife was stuck at work for two days before the salt trucks could get out and clear the roads. And we are prepared for harsh winter weather, it is amazing how people somehow think that Texas should have been prepared for something that has never happened to that degree in their lifetime.

This climate change thing has been happening since at least 1980. My wife and I headed down for a quick golf vacation in Myrtle beach when a major winter storm hit the area from around DC all the way down to halfway through Georgia. What a mess. No one had any snow removal equipment at all at that point and up until then they never needed it. Fortunately the next morning the sun came out and it was above freezing and since the ground hadn't frozen the snow melted quickly. I-95 had one lane open in each direction. There was at least 12 inches of snow that tapered down to 4 inches and then disappeared in mid-Georgia and to the east just about 10 miles from the coast. Since then they didn't get any expertise on snow removal but at least they got snow removal equipment. I have advocated for the highway department in NC that they send some transportation officials up north in the winter to observe the procedures for winter storms. Apparently they didn't think that was a good idea to take advise from a yankee.

They also have frozen wind turbines that are providing zero power right now.

We are currently at a solar minimum right now, so my bet is things will be colder. Remember the Time magazine cover from the early 80’s that said we were headed towards another ice age? Scared the bejeezus out of me when I was a kid. We subscribed to it. Funny story about that. We got a Publishers Clearing House entry in the mail. Guess who filled it out and put magazine stamps in it? Yep me. Mom was so not thrilled. So I blame myself for reading that Time article. 🤣
